tech.yahoo.com:

HARTFORD, Conn. - Under the watchful eye of law enforcement in 40 states, Craigslist pledged Thursday to crack down on ads for prostitution on its Web sites.

As part of Craigslist's agreement with attorneys general around the country, anyone who posts an "erotic services" ad will be required to provide a working phone number and pay a fee with a valid credit card. The Web site will provide that information to law enforcement if subpoenaed.

Could we please just legalize, strictly control and HEAVILY TAX prostitution? The tax coffers would be filled to overflowing thus putting a huge dent in the national debt or providing universal healthcare for all. Grow up America!

That might actually work ... I can see the campaign now ... Sales Tax On Prostitution.

Wouldn't even have to print new signs for the campaign. Almost every street corner in the United States already has a S.T.O.P. sign.

What about the women who don't want to pay the tax? It's legal, they could get a license and taxed, but they just don't want to pay the money.

You see, legalization and taxing doesn't eliminate the underclass. It just separates the gap between the classes.

Saw an expo on tee vee about how it is being used for underage prostitution...sad.

Now if they could just do something about all the ticket sale scams, and the other forms of grifting going on there, I might go back.

While they are at it, they should look into getting "real" real estate listings and not phishing ads, too.

WHY!!!!

A little commercial affection never hurt anybody!!!

The reason they created the erotic ads section ws because too many ads in the W4M section were really from pros. If a man is cruising legit ads, he wants to see legit women.

But now that the erotic section will be curtailed, those ladies will come flooding back to the legitimate sections. So what was once limited to one area is now spread out over two, ruining both. Good job Craig!

The Better Business Bureau has just publicly outed Craigslist on the news. Let the user beware.

I think he should remove the "used cars" section as well... does more harm than women using what they got to make a livin' "while going to college".

How about law enforcement crackdown on crime that really hurts people, not that which two willing individuals engage in. Priorities people, priorities.

Well, you may think that, but you have no idea what can go on behind closed doors between a sex worker and a violent john.

Consider the fact that almost all prostitutes have been in some form of a violent or abusive relationship since they were very young. They reach the 'ripe old age' of 16 or 17 and being used and abused by men is all they know and it's all they think they can do.

It's not a victimless crime, and on the surface it may seem like it's two willing individuals, but between the lines it is a woman whose self worth is less than zero who thinks she has no other options other than to sell her body or allow herself to be willingly abused for money...most of which goes for her pimp anyway.
