I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Keith Olbermann has long gone after his 8PM competition at Fox News, Bill O'Reilly, but Wednesday night he started a new line of attack — against CNN's 8PM host Campbell Brown.

Olbermann chided Brown for mistakenly claiming that the last time the same party controlled the White House, the Senate and the House was under Jimmy Carter.

"The talking point got out enough that the anchor of another news broadcast at this hour reported yesterday that last time it happened it," — and here Olbermann turned on his Brown impression — "didn't go so well, and people who have been worried about the possibility of one party controlling the White House and Congress. 'The last president to do that, of course, was Jimmy Carter.' Swing and a miss. Her colleague tried to correct her. 'Bill Clinton.' Swing and another miss. Correct answer: George W. Bush, that current guy. Early 2001 and again from 2003-2006."

Isn't it amazing that Republicans talk about what will happen if Democrats control the White House, the House and the Senate. Just that quickly they have forgotten that Republicans controlled the House and the Senate and the White House from 2001 to 2006.

Now democrats have to clean up the mess they made. George Bush didn't have to clean up behind Bill Clinton he had a two trillion dollar surplus and wiped it out before his first term ended.

And it will take a long time to clean up their mess. "wiped out before his 1st term ended", the repub should remember that when they bash dems....But, we know that's not going to happen, its easier to bash then help...I find it amazing and hypocritical how some bash universal health care, as an ie. yet if they were in need, who would they turn to? or would they turn down help based on principle?...out of a job, would principle feed & house their families?,

Someone said that the democrats cleaning up Bush's mess should be called "the W.a..r. on Error".

An unfortunate -- and misleading -- title to the article. Olbermann did not "attack" Campbell Brown; he merely corrected her. Let's not create chaos where none exists.

Olbermann is really a bitter old dude.

Yeah, only a real crank would be bitter over the last eight years. You seem to be about as aware about things as Campbell Brown, which is, frankly, rather pathetic.

Lol, a guy with name in clueless criticizing another. Seeing how Campbell is working for a legitimate news organization, and you are less educated then Palin, please keep stupid comments to a minimum. Keith is bitter, he got smoked in ratings on election night.

Huffington Post attacks Keith Olberman for correctly pointing out an obvious
error by another network. tsk tsk.

I didn't see an "ATTACK" on Olberman from Huffpost .... I saw a report on something that happened.

How was it an attack???

Because they characterized his "correction" of Brown as an "attack" in its headline, thereby falsely characterizing him as an aggressor or somehow negative, which could be fairly described as attacking him.....do you get it now?...not do you agree, but do you understand the previous post?

Rush Limbaugh is dangerous and incites hatred. I think he goes beyond freedom of speech.

Is it not interesting that both Limbaugh and Hannity are college dropouts....individuals who could not earn a college undergraduate degree. Have you seen their mansions and know their compensation packages?

It does not surprise me that they speak to the social underclass, the uneducated white male who has a female boss he both lusts for and despises simultaneously. These underclass and nearly illiterate and innumerate voters simply know whom to hate and blame for their hard survival reality and the answer is clear........not the Corporate neocons who are guilty.....but the LIBRULS who hate God, love Gays, and hate GUNS. They are deadbeat dads even if they acknowledge their paternity, but "hate abortion" and can't keep a relationship, but hate " qu**rs and b*ll dy*es and their kids" even though they partner for decades.

WHAT A COUNTRY............................!!!!!!

Interesting post. Now I'm starting to understand why a working class person would listen to the likes of a rightwinger but knowing that Limpbaugh, Hannity and Palin for that matter didn't get much out of higher education. . . .

There is no such a thing as being neutral when telling a story that is just an American myth. But there is honesty, with Fox, Keith, Rachel, you know their point of you, and everyone HAS a point of view. With reporters like Campbell Brown, the appearance of neutrality is false, unless you really believe they were born yesterday, a blank slate, so her slant is actually misleading, and by hiding it sometimes dangerously so.

Let's see. While I agree that Keith, Rachel and Chris give me "comfort news" every night (the equivalent of comfort food when you're depressed), MSNBC starts with 3 full hours of liberal-bashing in the morning. Joe Scarborough, Pat Buchanan....truly conservative..Mika the puppet is just sad. So I'd dare say MSNBC , just like CNN, IS indeed fair and balanced, since you have to go thru hours of Conservative talk-shows till you get to the Liberal ones. That's balance in my views.FOX News on the other hand has non-stop Liberal bashing. If they think that putting a puppet like Colmes ,cowering for half-hour is "balancing" anything, they must be delusional.

Very true. But at least Pat Buchanan is well-known as being out on the far edge of the right wing and yet, he is usually still very civil to those who disagree with him. I can stomache Pat. And once I know that Joe S signed Newt's Contract with America when he was a Congressman and is married to a former Jeb Bush aide, I realize that he is not as biased as he could be. At least Pat and Joe are real politicians who don't pretend to "unbiased" like Brown does.

Actually, it is my theory that all Fox reporter and Limbaugh and other far right media outlets helped Obama enormously. One of my children called me from Alaska and giggled as she said, Fox is endorsing McCain and Palin so I am voting a straight Democratic ticket. She has the idea that whatever they say in politics, one must vote the exact opposite to save our country. It is my hope that she was joking, but then, what she commented is so true. They have the bias to always find the WRONG candidate and then they ask us to vote for their choice. ICK!!!! is all I can say. Must be sad for Rush especially, since he has totally lost his mojo.

I actually heard her say that, and remember short-circuiting.
Then I thought ...she must have said Democrats, not 'the same party'??

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:01 PM on 11/08/2008

I saw that as it happened too. I'm pretty sure she was talking about Democrats holding power. She asked the question and then was very smug about the answer being Jimmy Carter, which of course was wrong. John King said Bill Clinton (yes, in the early 90s), but she totally blew him off and kept going on about Jimmy Carter.

Actually, she clarified that the Dems had control of the congress and the senate under Clinton. And then crinkled her nose, and said "that didn't work out so well".

This is even sadder that she stopped to clarify it and didn't realize who controlled house & senate under bush. Da.Ko.z has it on posted on u-tu.be.

Uh...I'm sorry. If Keith wanted to go after someone he would name them. He did not. He only pointed out that one particular parties talking points can get so pervasive that they even infiltrate other MSM outlets. Where is the controversy?

I've seen some of Olbermann's attacks, and this was far from one.

Whoever is responsible for this story (in every sense of the word) is making a mountain out of a molehill.

I agree

An error of fact such as Campbell Brown committed doesn't call for Olbermann's typical over-the-top huffing, puffing, and bellowing. And will somebody tell him to make his questions to guests far less long-winded. Half the time he gets so tangled up in his own verbosity that the poor guest doesn't know what in hell he's being asked. Less bombast, Olbermann or you'll soon blow yourself out.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 09:52 AM on 11/09/2008

I suspect she was referring to the last time a party held the presidency and both houses with a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate. Olbermann is just being a jerk (for obvious reasons of self-service).

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:26 PM on 11/08/2008

Why is correcting someone on a factual matter "being a jerk ?" It sounds to me like you are rationalizing for Ms. Brown based on what she might have meant, because you'd feel better thinking that Olbermann is wrong.

A filibuster-proof majority is a different issue. Why would she be talking about "the last time" there was a filibuster-proof majority, when we don't have one this time ?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 12:11 PM on 11/09/2008

She wasn't on the "worst persons list." He didn't yell, scream or jump up and down. He simply took, what, 20 seconds? to point out that unless she was talking about a fillibuster-proof majority, the last time one part controlled everything was 03-06. (How terrible those years were...) I don't know why this is even a story.

... That Chris Callizzo guy does look like Clark Kent though!
