I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Keith Olbermann has long gone after his 8PM competition at Fox News, Bill O'Reilly, but Wednesday night he started a new line of attack — against CNN's 8PM host Campbell Brown.

Olbermann chided Brown for mistakenly claiming that the last time the same party controlled the White House, the Senate and the House was under Jimmy Carter.

"The talking point got out enough that the anchor of another news broadcast at this hour reported yesterday that last time it happened it," — and here Olbermann turned on his Brown impression — "didn't go so well, and people who have been worried about the possibility of one party controlling the White House and Congress. 'The last president to do that, of course, was Jimmy Carter.' Swing and a miss. Her colleague tried to correct her. 'Bill Clinton.' Swing and another miss. Correct answer: George W. Bush, that current guy. Early 2001 and again from 2003-2006."

Commenting on a mistake is one thing. It falls to a juvenile level, however, when you turn on the voice impersonation. That kind of thing is pretty much uncalled for. Keith Olbermann continues to demonstrate an immaturity that completely negates any possibility that he can be considered "serious". It makes his broadcast into a joke, and the man himself a laughing stock.

By all means, comment. Say what you want about the issues that matter to you. But don't try to criticize O'Reilly in any way if your style is to make fun of people in high-pitched voice parodies. That's just childish.

That's his shtick. He show is part comedy. Like the Daily Show only a little more serious. Granted it's a little frat boyish, but it's fun.

I'll have to agree with that. anyhow, who says that K.O. is a democrat? There is some humor intertwined with the show, and its great.

Doesn't that make O'Reilly's style his "schtick" too then? What makes him more rightfully criticizeable than Olbermann?

Both men seem intent on using their positions to shout about their unbalanced opinions. No one is served by that, even if it is "entertaining".

And for the record, The Daily Show is broadcast on Comedy Central, while Olberman is on MSNBC. Either your network is a news organization charged with providing facts to viewers, or it's a comedy station whose focus is putting jokes and laughs on the air. It's kind of a clear line of distinction between the two.

I personally think all of the idealogues are harmful to this coutnry and will be elated when all have gone away. The republicans and democrats are more concerned with protecting their party's image than they are about the American people they were elected to represent. People are dying across the world, in Africa and Asia in South America and even here in the U.S. because of our failed policies of Imperialistic Capitalism and the world has had enough. If we really want to change the world we live in, we need to start right here! O'Reilly is a TOOL and so is Olbermann.

Alright, calling KO a tool is a little harsh, I'd just like to see more from him. I think he has the ability to really help change America because he is just so sharp.

Olbermann did not use the ladies name so there is no issue here everyone makes mistakes. If the mistake was intentional it was a warning at worst a warning to Ms. Brown that Keith and his staff are very pensive and observant in catching every detail so do not expect to be spared if you have a bais because it will be exsposed. I question the intentions of the person who created this blog because it was very sensationalistic for the blog to be named Olberman Attacks inferring Olbermann went after her derisively, but if you look at all the titles of stories on Huffington most of their stories have that kind of sensationlist tilt to them.

It's called tabloid journalism...Huffpo is the NY Post of the left, with headlines that are written by people who have no clue about writing one.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 06:35 AM on 11/07/2008

Then I must have no clue about reading a headline, because if it wasn't for the HuffPost and folks like Andrew Sullivan, the last several months of depending on the MSM for my news would have been a LOT more boring.

There has been a consistent pattern in the MSM to smear Keith O. He is one of the very handful of TV personalities who speak truth to power, and he is THE one who does it most effectively. He is a walking encyclopedia and he takes absolutely no prisoners.

People accuse him of being partisan, but since when is the other name for telling the truth "partisan"?

I await the day when his critics get substantive and actually pinpoint instances where Keith has misrepresented or distorted the facts. Until then, thanks but no thanks.

Good post but three cliches in one paragraph ?? "truth to power", "walking encylopedia", "takes no prisoners." Try a little more judicious editing next time sir.

Maybe it's because I've spent too much time with KO over the past few years, but sometimes he overdoes it a bit, especially in his "special comments". I didn't bother to watch it, but if HuffPo is doing "let's you and her fight", that wouldn't surprise me either.

This hero-worship shown by WongChin is a bit unsettling. Olbermann is THE one? Even Olbermann wouldn't want that said about him- what does Rachel Maddow do the next hour- talk about baking cookies?

That is a superb paragraph, Sir. Your indirect attempt to denigrate it totally misses the mark you had in mind and falls flat.

Brown was obviously wrong because Congressional Republicans let Bush get away with murder for eight years. They let his administration run wild and shred the consitution with no oversight. However, it is funniest when Olbermann takes on the giant talking head O'Reilly. O'Reilly caricatures himself nightly without the help of Olbermann.

Regardless of my personal opinions about Keith, I think this post is misleading and unfair.

More importantly I think the point Keith was trying to make was about how bias talking points influence

news coverage especially by an anchor that claims "no bias, no bull". Even though the GOP is in

disarray they are not skipping a beat trying to undermine the Obama administration.

For example the MSM ran with the "measuring drapes" line from the McCain stump speech. When in

fact any responsible presidential candidate should be making transition plans.

Come on, Huffington, don't sensationalize this; Keith was not in any way attacking her, he was just setting the record straight on garbage right-wing talking points. This was one of the tamest I've ever seen him call anyone out. If he really wanted to "attack" her, he'd have called her out by name and delivered a much more severe thrashing. Have you never watched Keith?

I have to agree with you there, Keith was really holding back. Had O'Reilly made that comment, he would have trashed him, called him out by name... and possibly tossed him into the world's worst list for making that statement.

Okay, so they've changed the headline from "Keith Olbermann attacks Campbell Brown" to "Keith Olbermann starts after Campbell Brown" but this slight change to the wording of this inflammatory article is still lame and disingenuous. He corrected a report. He didn't name the reporter or the station, only the report. He did not chide her or imitate her. He corrected a factual error.

Enough with the loaded language! If anything, whoever posted this "attacked" Keith Olbermann and fomented trouble between two anchors who have been nothing but civil to one another. Stop trying to create the news! Stop trying to create more divisiveness. The American people have had enough of this crap. We repudiated it as the polls. Clearly we don't like it when the Republicans do it and we don't like it when you do it either.

Who is repsonsible for this headline? Is it the author? The byline just says, "Huffington Post". The American people are ready for people to take responsibility for their actions. Who is responsible for this?

Enough with the "them" and "us". We are sick of it. If this is what passes for journalism, then Huffpo is headed the way of the Free Republic. It's shameful!

Gosh you are sensitive. Olbermann is a nutjob. Often delirious. He is the laughing stock over there at msnbc. The guys like a broken clock! Right twice a day!

But great fodder. Gawd we laugh when he starts frothing at the mouth, gets carried away and start making stuff up LOL

"The guys like a broken clock! Right twice a day!"

That's fine because he's only on live once a day. If he's wrong when the show repeats, then blame the editors not Keith.

Oh, please. He wasn't "impersonating" her - he read a quote, using his normal voice. This is really reaching. I wonder what I can trust on HuffPo when I see this kind of obvious exaggeration.

Campbell Brown: Bill Clinton had Democrats in the House and in the Senate?"

John King: "Very briefly."

Campbell Brown: "Didn't go so well."

John King: "No, it didn't."

(Clinton never had a 60 seat Senate majority)

Campbell Brown must have been in denial, or suffering from post traumatic memory loss -- that the Republicans controlled the Congress in 2001, 2003-2006 -- duh, what was this last election about again, oh yeah, the Republicans were the ones who screwed America.

She, as well as the others at CNN and Fox, needs to go in for deprogramming. When one is part of a cult for 8 years, only professional deprogrammers can break the hold and free the person's mind again.

Go get them KO. Brown and cohort apparently have been absorbing Republican talking points for a long time now and it starts to show. CNN and Fake News have been the media for Republican propaganda about "liberal bias" and how democrats are weak on defense and national security etc... CNN has been on a mission to try to scare Americans about one party rule with their Republican talking points. Every intelligent viewer can see clearly they are carrying the water for the conservatives. Enough is enough.
