Norquist

Hoping to pick up the pieces after an electoral drubbing, anti-tax crusader Grover Norquist held one of his famous Wednesday meetings yesterday to plot out a renaissance of sorts.

About 150 individuals were in attendance, he said, in addition to GOP officials calling in from 40 states. And while Norquist acknowledged that Republicans were licking their wounds a bit, he already had charted the avenues for a resurrection, much of it premised on an anticipated Democratic overreach.

"Barney Frank is going to be shooting legislation at [Obama], Nancy Pelosi has a backlog of legislation and in her mind she has been waiting for 20 years to push it... the pent up demand to do stuff is going to come out like a machine gun," said Norquist. "The other issue we are going to be for is stopping Obama's tax increases, massive spending program, his takeover of health care... He will create the agenda for the modern right by creating a list of programs that oddly didn't end up in his advertisements."

Obama, Norquist additionally argued, would have hiccups upon entering office; not necessarily because the shift from candidate to president was so vast but because his political demeanor was not suited for the climate of the country.

"[Bill] Clinton was from Arkansas and was smart enough to know that the country wasn't up for his to-do list. Obama is not from Arkansas," he said. "[Obama] doesn't know anybody who would consider knowing Bill Ayers as a problem. He doesn't know anybody who thinks that getting an earmark for your wife is not appropriate."

As for Republicans themselves, Norquist said that much of the party's focus would be spent on issues of transparency and accountability. And, of course, there would be taxes and demanding that rates continued to be reduced or kept low. Asked if he worried about a dearth of talent in the lower ranks, Norquist scoffed at the question itself, saying the idea that there were no promising up-and-coming conservatives was the concoction of a columnist in need of copy.

"These writers, they start pontificating about the structure of the party in Maryland and in Idaho, they just don't know what is going on there," he said. "Look at all the people who didn't know Sarah Palin and therefore she had to be an idiot."

But Norquist did have harsh parting words for President George W. Bush who, by any political measure, has left the conservative movement in a more perilous situation than when he came to office.

Arguing that every president has a certain amount of "bandwidth" with which to work, the head of American's for Tax Reform chastised Bush for "deciding to take five years to be the mayor of Baghdad instead of the United States."

"The idea that you are Winston Churchill because you picked a fight with a country with 25 million people in it, come on," said Norquist. "Ronald Reagan would do that before breakfast and then go have lunch. Ronald Reagan was smart enough to realize quickly that he would not go and manage the next Lebanese civil war for the next 20 years."

Norquist's forte is in areas of spending and taxes. And on the first of these fronts, Bush has taken a lot of heat. But in an discussion with the Huffington Post, Norquist was far more critical of Bush's foreign policy ventures, which he said simply decimated the capital and time the administration had for domestic priorities.

"How were you going to get stuff done if your time, your focus, your energy -- however useful -- is spent setting up Baghdad's infrastructure and not on the FCC," he asked. "If you are sitting there deciding who should be viceroy of Iraq rather than head of FEMA?"

I hope they eat their own until their idiology is extinct. I fear they will never be able to stop their Zealot, nasty hateful goals. We must support our new President to make we uphold our Contitution and stop the zealots in their tracks. This election I heard the most outrageous things from McCain supporters that made me literally sick to my stomach. I heard McCain supporters say that anyone who was not a Christian should not be allowed in this country. I heard his supporters state that if you were not a Christain who believed in THEIR God you had no right to call yourself American. When I asked them where they were getting this idea from they said in church. The We have very dangerous teachings in our churches and by Republicans if this is what they are teaching. Anti-American hate-filled speeches from McCain and Palin absolutely disgusted me. I have been shaken to my foundation to hear people make these kinds of statements. Until Obama, I have been a political bystander, but no more. I will be an activist to uphold our Constitution and Ideals.

When we don't hear them crunching on each other... to mix metaphors, when they start to run silent and deep.... THAT'S when we should start to worry.

This is funny.
"...the pent up demand to do stuff is going to come out..."
Yeah, it will be nice to have a government that "does stuff" other than invading other nations and issuing no bid contracts.
"Look at all the people who didn't know Sarah Palin and therefore she had to be an idiot."
I didn't know Sarah Palin, and I didn't think she was an idiot until I heard her speak at the convention. After that, I knew she was a liar and an idiot.
She couldn't handle "what's your favorite color?" type interviews with Charlie Gibson and Katie Couric.
Maybe she seems smart to Grover Norquist in comparison to himself and those he associates with. I don't know. He should get the coalition together to bankroll her run in 2012. Good luck with that.

Grover Norquist is the 2nd most dnagerous person in Washington, eclipsed only by David Addington. Grover Norquist is inexplicably a complete sociopath, whose life's ambition is to dismantle the New Deal by taking the country to the brink of bankruptcy with a combination of lower taxes and increased military spending (sound familiar????), so that the ONLY path to solvency is to completely dismantle the social programs of the New Deal.

Of course, being nothing better than a destroyer, Norquist has no answer for what to do with the millions of people who would be disenfranchised with the consequences of his sociopathology. His twisted brain can't go beyond his hatred of (what he considers) transfer of wealth DOWNSTREAM. Naturally, he has no problem with transfer of wealth UPSTREAM via tax cuts for the rich and corporations.

If you don't believe me on how extreme this man is, just Gooogle "Starve The Beast" and read all about him and how many REPUBLICANs buy into his sociopathology. That's why the Republican Party got blown out in this election. He talks about cleaning out evangelicals, etc. Well, the first step the Republican Partty should take is to get rid of Grover Norquist.

Right now the Republican Party is in shambles. Why in the world would they want one of the architects of that fall to be the one who repairs it? They brought their demise upon themselves with arrogance and by excluding large parts of the country from the decision making process. Now we have the country sitting on the edge of a disaster with the economy in shambles, two wars being fought and American wealth being thrown down a rat hole. They have strayed from the traditional Republican plank and these guys think they can resurrect it. Good luck. George Bush bragged that he had political capitol and he was going to spend it. These guys enabled Bush. Now they can live with the results. If this is the best they can come up with, the Republicans are going to be down for a long time.

He needs to grab the evangelicals, racists, the Christian Right and all the other scum who invaded and demonically possessed the Republican Party and drown them in his bathtub. Those who are left - the true, principled Conservatives - can then rebuild the party.

He can start his movement toward openness and accountability by releasing his tax returns, and opening up his Wednesday meetings to anyone, and posting it on youtube.

What fascinating deluded thinking to deny what just happened. A vast number of American voters and world citizens are rooting for and counting on what Obama put forth during his campaign. I think Obama's next politics-as-usual buster is going to be working earnestly toward what he pledged on the campaign trail. That will be the real shocker to all the cynics and naysayers.
