Last night, Fox News' Carl Cameron reported some astounding news -- according to top John McCain aides, Sarah Palin did not know Africa was a continent. Today, via Think Progress, Palin dismissed the story, saying a "small, evidently bitter type of person" made "foolish ... false allegations." However, she did not specifically refute the Africa claim or any of the other charges related by Cameron. Watch:

We now know that this "story" was a hoax. If you believed it, you've been had, hook, line, sinker.

The only reason you believed it was true is because you wanted it to be true.

This is not an I Told You So, it's just a reminder that if something sounds too good to be true, it usually is. It's also a reminder that just because a story turns viral, it doesn't somehow gain in veracity.

Yes.

She's not "stupid", she just lacks the level of intelligence acquired by most 1st graders.

No, that's not stupid.

I notice she doesn't say she DID know the difference between "Africa the continent and Africa the country."

And -clearly- she was confused by the "members of NAFTA" question.

Don't worry, Governor. A lack of knowledge and principles will in no way preclude you from getting Republican support for your 2012 run.

As if McCain's loss was all because of Palin. She sure didn't help the ticket, but he picked her. After the election the press doesn't seem to have paid much attention to McCain's lack of judgement & nasty tactics. Maybe he lost because of 8 yrs of failed Republican leadership & his all too willing support of Bush (or should that be Cheney). The Repubs have to blame someone, so they leak some stupid, juicy stories abt Palin--they don't need her anymore--& McCain marches on. The repubs have no integrity or class.

is this an example of animals eating their young? this stuff is hilarious. palin is the gift that keeps on giving and it will only get jucier because she is a sociopath and won't stop herself. as much as i can't stand seeing her speak, the other side of me wants the media to keep entertaining her so she'll continue to spew out her stupidities. i also say they can use old film footage of leona helmsley to make movies on sarah.

I see you have a comment on the false allegations.
Maybe it was you who made them.

Biden is the gift that will keep on giving. I hope Obama stays healthy.

It sure does take someone with the same intelligence level to defend Palin...

Biden may be a blowhard who overstates his point, but the fact that he has points to make sure indicates some sort of intelligence (not that you'd notice), as opposed to Sayonara Sarah. Please donate to her 2012 campaign... Better yet, why don't you run on her ticket, we'll call it the "Two idiots to nowhere" campaign.

Excuse me...

Challenging fight by use of "Bitter, Small person" may not justify executive status...

If we may suggest to correct it...

"Person may have misunderstood my intent or...
I gladly will clarify the matter with.... or
With all respect, he/she may not have..."

but calling name?

Calling who by name? How can you call an anonymous person by name? Amazing.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 07:48 AM on 11/08/2008

Uh... it is possible to make an assessment of the situation without name calling while not knowing the source. But it would take an intelligence beyond yours to figure it out (apparently).

Poor Welfare, he's probably cackling at his super duper smart retorts that have us all mentally devastated. Bwahahhahahahhaahhaha

Sarah,

Don't like people telling lies about you, but you had no problem spewing them onthe campaign trail about Obama and Biden, What goes around comes around. The press call them like they are.

All this will come back to haunt you for ever.
Stay in Alaska and keep your shadowing dude there with you. He makes you more unbelieveable, like you cannot be out on your own, PUPPET PALIN>

I recall a small person named Sara demonizing Barack Obama and stirring up a frenzy of hate filled lies at her rallies. Bring on the dirt - expose Sara until she become a GOP untouchable for any office in this country.

Ignorance is the lack of knowledge. An ignorant person can receive education and no longer be deemed ignorant. Stupidity is having access to education and gaining no benefit from it. There are degrees of stupidity and Palin is a text book example of the worst kind - blind stupidity. She (like Bush) does not compehend how little she knows about a great many things, and this type of stupidity is the most dangerous; great harm can be done by these individuals. A person who is not blindly stupid might, placed in Palin's position as VP nominee, thave aken the time to educate themselves on the issues of the day. This person might not weigh-in on every topic until they could form a studied response. This person might, heaven forbid, even change his or her mind about some issues, once all he facts had been accessed. The blindly stupid do not do such things because they do not feel they have to. To these people, a flip-flopper is the lowest form of Politican. You don't need to change your mind when you're right about everything in the first place.

If the knowledge is faulty, ignorance remains.

The more they try to vilify Palin, the stronger will be her resurrection among the evangelicals. They love a martyr.

And I have to say i always freaks me out the way that she holds her infant - slung casually over her arm and facing outward away from her. Not a good sign of maternal-infant bonding. I never see her look lovingly at her child.

I polled my 11 year old about this and he did think Africa was a country and a continent, but then said...wait, that is Austrailia, not Africa. He then confirmed that Africa was only a continent. I asked him if he knew what countries were involved in NAFTA and he just stared at me blankly. So, I told him it stood for North American Free Trade Agreement and asked what countries would be involved and his reply: U.S.A., Mexico and Canada. I am so proud of him and embarrassed for 57,143,022 of our American voters. Scary!

geez sarah, say it ain't so: you didn't use that "bitter" word did you; perhaps they are attempting to cling to their political career and relevance! does the future gop really want to be know as the "party of the uneducated and small minded?"

I would have NEVER voted for her running for ANY office--please Lord may she stay in Alaska. But I can't help feeling some sympathy for her now. The Africa nonsense came from FAUX news, so how believable can that be. Don't think the new clothes were her idea either, probably the GOP's or the campaign's. Those girls just love to shop (remember Paula Jones). Just another example of how the repubs "eat their own".
