Oprah Mr Man

Oprah's random shoulder to cry on has been identified, and he'll be on her show Friday.

Oprah Winfrey said on her show Wednesday that she did not know the man whose shoulder she cried on during the Obama victory event Tuesday night in Chicago's Grant Park.

"I ended up, I don't know who this guy is," she said while showing a photo of her crying on a nearby celebrator's shoulder. "Friends called me around the country saying, 'Who is with you?' I go, 'I don't know him!' But he was very nice to me. At one point I was just sobbing on his shoulder, mascara everywhere. Anyway, thank you Mr. Man for letting me cry on your shoulder."

The Chicago Sun-Times Thursday identified the man as Silicon Valley resident Sam Perry, who was listed as Obama's communications director for the region:

Perry is apparently an Obama volunteer, listed as the communications director for Silicon Valley for Obama.

Giselle Schmitz, regional field director for the Obama campaign, described Perry as "a great guy" and "tremendous asset to the organization."

"He's a great, great supporter," she said. "He did a ton of work on the campaign."

Watch Oprah talk about her mystery man:

For the Inaugeration, I picture our new president dancing cheek to cheek with our new first lady (who happens to have the same name as my aunt Michelle, who I lost to breast cancer in 2003- a Michelle in the White House, she would be tickled) to Beyonce's At Last. (The Etta James song!) At last, someone in the White House we can love, trust, and respect. A weight is off of my shoulders, and I can believe in my nieces futures once again, as well as for the future of women here in the USA and around the world. (Claira, Gracie and Steph.....Love you so much!)

I have never felt more hopeful for America. Never felt such pride in my country. I have waited for this moment all my life and I have never been prouder to be an American then I am at this very moment.

Thank you Barack.

Hats off to Sam Perry_this photo op should be framed_he was solid as a rock for Oprah. This "MY FRIENDS" is what AMERICA looks Like!I'm glad she found out his name and such!

When you looked at the folks in McCain's crowd_ as during the convention_very seldom did you find any ethnic contrast. I applaud "my fellow Americans" in Grant Park for their civility when Pres.Obama mentioned he'd spoken with McCain.

BECAUSE,when MCcain said he'd spoken with Pres-elect Obama_his crowd was booing at the mention of our new President name. What a contrast_no comparison really! It must be an awful feeling to be some eaten up inside with the cancer of hate_pray for these people.
"Desiderata"quote..avoid loud and aggresive persons;they are vexations to the spirit.Speak your truth quietly and clearly;and listen to others EVEN the dull and ignorant!Go placidly amid the noise& haste & remember what peace there maybe in silence.

Sam Perry! Nicest guy ever! I met him when he was doing a Reuters Fellowship in Digital Media at Stanford, long time journalist, tech dude, mentor and friend to all.

So, I'm now officially one degree of separation from Oprah, two from Barack.

Interesting... another thing I found interesting was that a judge actually allow homeless people to use a bench as their address when registering to vote.. and a man in Florida lot himself overnight to make sure no one will do something with the uncounted ballots..... we have come a long way... i just wish those idiots signing up on facebook to impeach Obama would see the light too..

That's my uncle Sam. "Shoulder Sam"

I was watching like everyone else and couldn't believe they kept the camera on him so long. He's a first class character and really, really sweet. I e-mailed him while I was watching the speech and told him that for me that night will forever be the image of Jackson and Oprah sobbing behind him and his big ol smiling gob filling the screen. Little did I know he'd be going on Oprah and made into an honorary "Joe". But Sam's his name and Sam is just as good as Joe.
Way to go Sam! Nice real estate for the speech.

There was the same feeling out here in SF where every other block was spontaneously filled, wall to wall with people singing and dancing and honking horns allll night. Random people hugging and being so cool and loving. Never seen anything like it for a political event. Hoping it doesn't wear off too soon.
Now that "Anything's Possible" I wonder what's next...? Peace in the Middle East? End to world hunger?
Oh, it's on.
Hell has officially frozen over.
