Oprah Mr Man

Oprah's random shoulder to cry on has been identified, and he'll be on her show Friday.

Oprah Winfrey said on her show Wednesday that she did not know the man whose shoulder she cried on during the Obama victory event Tuesday night in Chicago's Grant Park.

"I ended up, I don't know who this guy is," she said while showing a photo of her crying on a nearby celebrator's shoulder. "Friends called me around the country saying, 'Who is with you?' I go, 'I don't know him!' But he was very nice to me. At one point I was just sobbing on his shoulder, mascara everywhere. Anyway, thank you Mr. Man for letting me cry on your shoulder."

The Chicago Sun-Times Thursday identified the man as Silicon Valley resident Sam Perry, who was listed as Obama's communications director for the region:

Perry is apparently an Obama volunteer, listed as the communications director for Silicon Valley for Obama.

Giselle Schmitz, regional field director for the Obama campaign, described Perry as "a great guy" and "tremendous asset to the organization."

"He's a great, great supporter," she said. "He did a ton of work on the campaign."

Watch Oprah talk about her mystery man:

Sam the Shoulder is also in the footage of Jesse Jackson crying during the speech. Maybe his shoulder just has that effect on people.

Jesse was crying because he just saw his gig evaporate. No Red. No Blue. No Black. No White -- just America. How sweet it is...

Sam is a brilliant man. A little bit of an Egghead, but in the best and most complimentary sense. If your a media junkee like myself you've seen him pop up time to time across the airwaves. I look forward to his appearance on Oprah. He embodies what I call a "participating" citizen.

So Mr. Man is Sam the Shoulder.

I really hope he gets more positive attention than Joe the Plumber.

Mr. Man is from Silicon Valley and was in the VIP area with Oprah. I'm sure he's not some poor proletarian blue collar worker who's used to using the service entrance.

What a truly nice guy. I bet everyone at the event was caught up with emotions that night. No doubt many people that didn't know each other celebrated and hugged one another as proud Americans.

Oprah is incredible. As powerful as she is, she is just everyday peeps in her heart of hearts. She is so down to earth. Good fortune couldn't have happened to a more deserving person.

And, for allowing Oprah to cry on his shoulder, he is now going be known as the man who allowed Oprah Winfrey to cry on his shoulder. Wow! what an honor...I wish it could have been me.

Boy, that didn't set well with me at all. Why doesn't she realize that when she leans and hangs on people, she is being so impolite. And now to find out she didn't even know him and hung on him like he was her paid lackey...whoa!
Oh gawd, you need someone's shoulder to cry on? Grow up, stand up like a lady, take it like a man, what a wuss for a billionaire.
She kept it up for far too long. I know who she is, but the question ran through my head over and over....Who do you think you are Oprah?
It smacked of the old slave days when white folks had slaves lay at the foot of their bed to keep their feet warm. WTF?
She does this on her show and almost anywhere she goes, almost as if to say, I am so special that my touching you is to your great benefit, no matter than my arm weighs 30 pounds and is hurting your shoulder...let alone INVADING YOUR SPACE.
It would have served her right if the guy suddenly moved to his right and she fell right on her face.
STOP IT OPRAH.

There were so many people there and they were squished like sardines; over 250,000. Listening to Obama, she probably didn't realize she was leaning and crying on the man. Everybody was caught up in the moment.

I know some people who went there and I was told they arrived early and were still way back in the mid-section.

Oprah was just one of the crowd on election night. No celebrity. Stop being such a mean American. You can't even be kind any more. I'm waiting for that to change.

WOW, you need to get that pole outta there cowboy.
Who was she hurting. I'm thinking the guy didn't mind - besides, it was a joyous time...why can't one human being connect to another in such an emotional way.

Really? You would not comfort a crying woman or child imposing herself on you? We bleeding hearts would.

Remember this mean-spirited note of yours on the day when you find yourself comforted by a complete stranger when you really need it.

That has happened to me twice in moments of complete personal devastation; I am SO grateful that strangers sometimes just step in and offer support and comfort to their fellow humans.

You are completely right and so wise for pointing out the kindness of strangers. I know I have had so many people help me when I needed it, strangers and acquaintances. So glad people were there for you. It is these stories that let us know even in our dark times, there are many good people around.
