I Like ItI Don’t Like It

It didn't take long for the notoriously-fast-working folks at South Park to lampoon President-Elect Obama. Last night's episode featured the president-elect, Michelle Obama, John McCain and Sarah Palin. The episode, "About Last Night," revolves around an Ocean's 11-style plot to steal the Hope diamond.

Best....episode......ever....

I think the Obama Grandmother spot was insensitive but I don't think it was disrespectful. I don't believe they portrayed her in a derogatory sense, she was just part of the plot.

And common, it's Southpark. Everything/Nothing is sacred to them. Thats what gives the show it's strength.

Did you notice how judicious they were in lampooning the more ridiculous supporters of both candidates?

The creators truly do something great by trying to be balanced in their satire. By isolating our collective silliness, we can all laugh at it and turn it into a common catharsis.

brilliant, keep em coming guys!

I wouldn't say nothing is sacred to them. How many George W Bush episodes do you remember in the past 8 years?

Spot on davism97. I love South Park as much as the other guy, but Matt Stone and Trey Parker's deafening silence on W stunningly hypocritical. Catholic church, pope, virgin Mary, Jesus, Muslims, Bill and Hillary Clinton, Al Gore, and of course all things remotely liked by liberals are objects of ridicule, but not W. Clearly tells what their political leanings are, nevertheless I respect their talent.

Exactly. How much material HAS he given them in the past 8 years...yet, nothing.

They demonize liberals, have a very strange obsession with things anal, and appeal to...... a dark and nasty, gross side of people..... mostly men.

I watch it to see why my husband thinks it's funny, but I know very few women that like it... particularly, very few intelligent women.

I usually like South Park, but I will admit I was a bit weary. But they did a great job with it. I loved the ending.

What was most funny and/or embarassing, was that except for the partying in the streets, I could have been Randy Marsh when Obama won the election. I didn't stroke my TV, but boy, was I dancing around the living room yelling, "OBAMA!"

It was the best episode I've seen this season!

That's what I love about South Park. Always pulls America back into the reality zone when they get too excited about something.

Part of the fun of the show, of course, is the crudity of the drawing.

It was great. I loved it. Palin secretly being an upper-crusty Brit was priceless. And MO kicked some booty! I loved the ending.

saw it last night and laughed all the way through...Did anyone else pick up on Palin's British accent? That was the most educated she has ever sounded, on a cartoon....

It was silly and all in good fun - McCain, Obama, Palin, and Michelle all in league to steal the Hope Diamond. The only part I felt was over the line was when they included Obama's recently deceased grandmother as faking her death to be part of the plot. That was just too hurtful and sad to be funny.

The republicans try to claim the two creators are in their bag.

I dont think they are, obviously they're not, but without even watching it I know they shouldnt have.

Sux cause i am HUGE fan for what 11 years now, and I might very well skip this eppisode over this little plot line.

Obama's Grandmother is America's Grandmother, a lttle respect.

It may have been a slap at the claim by some neocons that his visit to see her was a campaign ploy to get the elderly vote. Sometimes these guys' intentions are hard to read.

I agree. It's often hard to tell what their core statement is. I can't think of another situation off the top of my head in which they'd done something like that right after someone's death, which leads me to believe it may be like you said.

Over the line? Matt and Trey?? NO!! But seriously, I looked at the calendar and checked my watch to make sure that I hadn't lost a day in Obama-victory-joy when I heard (almost) the exact words that Obama spoke Tuesday at 11pm EST on South Park Wednesday at 8:30 pm. Great work, guys.

Also, at the very end of Law and Order last night, they did a voice over while reporters questioning Jack McCoy at a press conference. The voice screamed, is it true that you've been offered a position in the Obama administration? (quote not exact). I couldn't believe they sneaked that in so fast, but, upon rewinding and replaying, there it was, loud and clear.

It's most likely that they filmed or taped two questions, one about Obama and one about McCain, then picked the right one after Tuesday.
