I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Will Smith joined Oprah on Thursday and talked about how moved he was when the election was officially called for Barack Obama, even imitating himself bawling on the floor. "Oprah I'm an action hero, I can't be crying on your show," he told her moments before imitating himself sobbing with happiness and falling to the floor. He pulled it together and got serious to talk about how much Obama's speech resonated with him.

Oprah shared her joy yesterday.

I could see that...would be nice, wouldn't it? Not only is he funny, he's one super intelligent, compassionate man.

Will Smith is a classic. From his time on Fresh Prince, to now a mega-superstar actor, he seems to not have lost his humbleness and ability to laugh at himself. One of my idols.

I can finally look my mixed race (half black/half white) grandson in the eyes and say to him "yes you can be WHATEVER you want to be" Ive said it before to him but now I can say it without any reservation, and it is true. We still have a long road to travel in race relations, but I think we have made the first giant leap.

He's not the only one, it's three days later and I still cry, every time I hear someone say something postive about the US, it's people, President Elect Obama or democracy. I've been voting for president since 1968 and I've never felt like this or seen a response like this from the human race. I have a lump in my throat, I am proud and excited. He has inspired me to get more involved locally. My child and grandchild have a chance to inherit a world that's just a little bit better than it was a week ago. I'm not talking about riches, but richness of the heart and spirit, a unity of people, working to make the world a better place. Man did we lose our way this last eight years. I truly believe Obama answers to a higher calling and I am proud to be an American.

It didn’t even hit me until I was listening to Maya Angelou on a morning show as said "White people, Asian people, gay, straight, and Hispanic people all got together and picked a black man to speak for them". It just hit me and made me cry. I voted for Obama because I believed he has integrity and the intellect to be a great President. Even if he doesn’t walk on water at least he will attempt to bring a positive change and not more Wars and cronyism. I don’t expect him to be a miracle worker but at least I trust him.

my thoughts too....i think a big part of the crying is GRIEF at how badly abused we ALL were during the Bush years... its a tragedy that is ending, hence tears of Relief and Gratitude. Not in my lifetime can I think of a more profound moment than this one. Priceless.

Funny, but for me, a white american, the tears were tears of happiness for the African Americans in this country who never thought this day would ever come. Tears, too, of sorrow for the magnitude of their suffering, all because of their skin color.

I will never forget sobbing for an hour knowing that America has come back to her best self and slapped down those others among us who would divide and conquer us. Yes, we have been abused and I am relieved that all of our great diversity now has a president. And I'm relieved because he's just so damned qualified for the job!

In the midst of my sobbing, a friend called long distance and told me to hold the phone away from my ear and then she screamed at the top of her lungs from a joyful place that's been locked down and shut up for years. For some of us the years go all the way back to Reagan.. For some they go back to the boats. But finally, a historical milestone that unites us all as one big happy family.

I'm walking on sunshine.

We picked a good one. He's not the Messiah, he's just a man, but he's smart and capable and he has a vision for ALL Americans- even wingnuts like Ann Coulter and Michael Savage- they will soften over time and perhaps after all their infighting is over they will realize how wrong they were.

I am glad to see this happen in my lifetime.

ICanHasDemocracy said,

"they will soften over time"

I'm kind of seeing nervous breakdowns in their futures.

I have seen and heard enough stories now to believe people of all colors and nationalities were crying during the outome of the election this time. Never thought I would see the amount of people who voted and the outcome decided with such numbers for a president I see like JFK our countries destiney. Barack Obama is a human who we will not always agree with but we did agree we needed him to help us change. Although many who did not vote for Barack are filled with fears based on the hate/racism spewed with the lies by the GOP ticket and have chosen to see only the reaction of black people as the gauge of what has happened tere are a whole lot of colors happier than we have been in years to see Barack as President Elect Obama. The media should be focusing on all not just African American reactions. It is history for them and for us.

Man, who DOESN'T love Will Smith? What a ham, but isn't it entirely true? Who doesn't at least tear up just at the thought of what an amazing time we're living in?

And I agree with HenryHill-- Smith would be a great choice to play Obama! As much as he'd like to act like he's all that, he's just a down to earth, (sometimes accidentally) funny kind of guy everyone loves!

he just wants the lead in "Audacity of Hope: The Barack Obama Story"

he'd probably nail it, too.

henryhill,

Maybe Will would like the lead in,"Audacity of Hope:", as you put it.

But, that doesn't mean he didn't tear up as did a majority of blacks, and many white.

I Really do not think that Senator McCain had the ability to affect the world like Obama did. I'm not trying to be negative but the Obama affect was really affective and People of the world feel connected. Look at all the post from the whole world rejoicing his victory. I am from the US Virgin Islands and people here are also over joyed.

Hopefully some day soon the rights of gay people in California to form their own unions will also be be celebrated with joy too.

Tom Cruise? Not even close. Will Smith is genuine and for real!
I used to have such respect for Tom Cruise, he appeared to be a level headed human being. However, after he bashed Brooke Shields and anyone else (especially women) telling people when and how to use, or not use medication to help in their personal struggle was the straw that broke the camel's back for me. He doesn't understand the women's body and has no right to criticize anyone for their choices in healing.

Better bawling on the floor for the return of Democracy and the Promise of America than hopping up and down on a couch and shaking Oprah to death over Katie Holmes.

LOL.

Will is awesome!
