I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Will Smith joined Oprah on Thursday and talked about how moved he was when the election was officially called for Barack Obama, even imitating himself bawling on the floor. "Oprah I'm an action hero, I can't be crying on your show," he told her moments before imitating himself sobbing with happiness and falling to the floor. He pulled it together and got serious to talk about how much Obama's speech resonated with him.

Oprah shared her joy yesterday.

Great stuff! This election has brought so much joy to America when we really need it.

Will Smith has been a great example. He has shown that people with big ears can be smart, talented and likable. I think this helped America accept Obama, big ears and all. :)

..as long as we choose to remember the HARD WORK ahead for all of us - and to make the decisions that are not going to be EASY but worthy in generational value - then the road to recovery and healing becomes assured. but the awareness must be there - that HARD WORK lies ahead of us and the nay-sayers AND haters will attempt to dislodge the momentum only because nay-sayers AND haters are UNWILLING TO ENDURE....

the current crisis of this culture occurred over a decade (and yes - thise DOES include bill clinton's own ignorance to the approaching financial storms that are here to roost...) if not longer (i point towards the reagan administration that produced vodoo economics and therefore fertilized the grounds for the S and L debacle AND the keating five fiasco...) - therefore, there needs to be the hard choices made to assure that the prosperity returns in full-bloom for this culture.....for generations to come.....

it would be interesting to know what these two think about prop 8.....but on the same note why do we care what they think?

don't hate on me but you can hide your gayness but you can hide you blackness.

prop 8 should have passed in my opinion but why do you need an amendment to a law to live like you want to?

Maybe because that law is preventing you from living like you want to. It used to be illegal, ILLEGAL for a white man to marry a black woman. Illegal means they put you in jail if you do it. And forget about jail. They don't let you into intensive care if you're just a "partner."

It makes a difference. If they can take away gays right to legally marry, what keeps them from invalidating my marriage to a white man? Are we not ALL human beings?

I'm sorry, I don't understand your response...what are you saying?
Prop 8 DID pass. Prop 8 is an amendment to the constitution. Prop 8 DISALLOWS people to live as they want...so I don't understand your note here.

Hide your gayness??
Why should anyone have to?

Meh, maybe I'm just emotionally hungover from the election process and don't get it.

53 year old Afro American female here and the joy is over flowing. I remember as a child not understanding that race was an issue. Then I read newspapers and watched the TV. Saw Police hosing and beating Blacks and I wondered what had they done wrong. I watched as Southern Whites spat upon young Blacks and saw the signs colored only and realized that I too was one of them. Nov 4th was a freeing of hearts and minds. A true venting and letting go of the past. I was so honored to vote for Obama, never thought I would live to see the day. It truly is a new world and I thank my American Brothers and Sisters for a change for the better.

I am so sorry for the sadness you felt as a child and am so happy for you (as well as all of us) that we have a smart, handsome, youthful, thoughtful, American patriot man who happens to be of African descent (and a little heartland descent too!) so that all people who grew up like you did can be proud and know that ALL people are welcome in the great country.

OMG- it is COOL to be smart, COOL to love your country...where have we been for the past several decades?

All that trickle down theory brought us to our knees, but now we will STAND UP and TAKE OUR COUNTRY BACK!

In the last few days, I was listening to a woman describe how during the civil rights movement when they were marching fire hoses were sprayed on the demonstrators and "it felt like our skin was peeling off" but they linked arms so they could stay together so when someone fell they would pick that person up and keep marching. Your post made me remember this.

That trickle down theory we felt was the fire hoses and we all collectively linked arms and stood up! We are the change indeed!!! Thank you to all who came before us to make this day happen!

We must also stand together with the homosexual community as they fight for equal rights! BTW I am a straight white woman but to see injustice in any form is just plain wrong!

Homosexuality is the last big holdout for the bigoted. When that one falls, then maybe American humanity can bask in the sunlight. We're seeing a few rays with Obama, but we have a way to go.

Oh, I forgot... when the homosexual thing falls, then maybe they'll start picking on the cr!pples among us. They'll always need something to make themselves feel better, until there is nothing left.

Really, there are so many of us who have to hold others up as inferior. When that is truly exposed, then we can make great strides as a people. Until then, a lot of energy is going to be expended on bigotry that could otherwise be use in furthering us as a country.

Given the spectacular results of Nov 4, I began to wonder: Is Bill Clinton still the first black president? If not, can we give the raspberry to anyone who says this now?

More tears!!! This is so beautiful. I love the humor. And the seriousness. Our country did a great thing! For everyone. I now believe this president cares about me, my concerns, my livelihood, my future, my descendants future. As a Native American (Navajo), I am ecstatic!

I give prayers for the health and safety of President Elect Obama. I live in Colorado and just yesterday, my husband heard some college students, young evangelical Republicans making hate filled statements about President Elect Obama. A continuation of the hate that was coming out in the McCain-Palin campaign. I am concerned for his safety because this kind of hate is till out here. Some people just went with the flow and will adjust as the leadership (whoever they might be) of the Republican party adjusts. But, there are those who won't adjust and might move to action against President Elect Obama. There is my concern. We must all pray for his safety and the safety of his family.

He will need the best secret service protection ever. If one goes out and looks at any of the websites that have completely uncensored discussion forums (even YouTube, for instance), it is truly horrifying to see the hate that some of the posters have. Hate, the "n" word, even actual threats. It is sad.

I am a lifelong agnostic but even I am praying to any deity that may be listening to keep him and his family safe.

I cried off and on for the past couple of days and still get teary. I'm crying because we saw the power of freedom and people working together take charge to make a positive change in this country. I had become cynical and thought that we would never be able to elect someone that truly represented the American people. We were all freed in a way on November 4th, we were freed of an oppressive government rule of the past 8 years (and of oppressions that go much farther back in history) and it was a beautiful thing to see people take back the country, have a good candidate to stand behind, and to see people from all backgrounds unite to realize the power they held but have so often chose not to use. I am beginning to feel a renewed faith in the American people, and I hope that we all stay together and work to move this country forward and push freedom rather than oppression.
