Politico:

South Carolina Republican Sen. Jim DeMint is pushing his party's leadership to expel Sen. Ted Stevens from the Senate during this month's "lame duck" session, according to people familiar with his plans.

DeMint, one of the most conservative members of the Senate, is said to be angry with Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) for tolerating a convicted felon in the GOP caucus.

I love stevens, he gives repuglicans a serious case of heartburn. The down side of him going is he will likely be replaced by palin and we need her on the wall watching for the putin invasion.

As a convicted felon Stevens can't even vote in Alaska! How can he run for office? I know how he can win (it's an Alaska Republican thing) ... but can he run?

If Alaskans really did reelect Stevens, they are even more mentally challenged than I thought!

Yeah, a better idea might be "Kick Alaska Out." Between Palin and Stevens, they have more than enough excellent leadership to lead them straight on into the 20th century.

If they get rid of Stevens they would lose all that pork barrel spending flowing from the rest of us to the North.

They might even have to pay for their own infrastructure.

They might, Gasp, have to RAISE TAXES.

That comes with the territory, perma-frost invades the mind and it freezes up. Autopsies have discovered the poor little hamsters feet frozen to the wheel and nothing tirning.

Hey! Pushing Stevens out, if he is elected, will only force feed us with other Alaska toxic waste.

he will get to stay as he will be PARDONED BY GEORGE BUSH

being pardoned does not mean he cannot be removed by the Congress...and what you're referring at best would be considered a technicality.

besides, why would bush pardon him? it's not like bush gives a crap any longer.

The Senate, according to the Constitution, gets to decide who sits in the Senate.

There is plenty of precedent for ejecting Stevens.

While a pardon would wipe the slate clean legally it would not, necessarily, make the political decision to seat or unseat Stevens any easier.

What? Is it possible that there are Republicans who are thinking about the good of the country?

wow.

Actually, before the neocons and pulpit-pounders got hold of the GOP, there were Republican liberals, moderates, and conseratives. We need that balance back. It's too bad Lincoln Chaffee got swept out with the other Repubs in 06 -- maybe he can make a comeback

Republicans, ALL Republicans are criminals. This is how I treat them in my personal and professsional life.

Oh Please! Attitudes like that are why there are ethnic wars, racial hatred, and religious intolerance. People have different views, that does not make them a criminal breaking the law does.......

Just heed the words of Bush when dealing with Republicans. Be VERY aware and if they fool you once.. shame on you ... fool you twice ...... uh..... well I guess you're a fool and, by logical deduction, a Republican.
No more problem.

There is some funny business going on in Alaska. All the polls were right on nationally except in Alaska.

Saw Nate Silver from 538 on tv last night... Polls were off by a large number for Stevens and almost 15 points off on the national and the number of voters was down 14% from 2004 numbers when everywhere else they were equal or exceeded them. Amazing the state of Super Sarah decides to stay home this year? Sounds like the little man behind the curtain might be pulling the strings up there in an interesting way... would really be a shame if there was voter fraud in a state with a governor with so much executive experience...

Well. At least he gets it.

Government should not be made up of convicts, even one or two is too much.

Why can a convicted felon be allowed in the Senate? They make their own rules just like the insurance industry and others. Pass a law to make felons unable to serve in government...period!
