Harry Reid: What Lieberman Did Was "Wrong"

Harry Reid told CNN Friday that he is unhappy with Joe Lieberman's passionate support of John McCain for president.

"Joe Lieberman has done something that I think was improper, wrong, and I'd like if we weren't on television, I'd use a stronger word of describing what he did," Reid told CNN's John King. "But Joe Lieberman votes with me a lot more than a lot of my senators. He didn't support us on military stuff and he didn't support us on Iraq stuff. You look at his record, it's pretty good."

Reid, the AP has reported, "is considering yanking Lieberman's chairmanship of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee as punishment."

Meanwhile the AP also reported today that GOP Senate Leader Mitch McConnell has reached out to Lieberman about joining the Republican party.

What was wrong was not Lieberman supporting McCain but his using false and inflammatory attacks on Obama, including questioning the president-elect's patriotism. That was very wrong, and Lieberman should not be rewarded for doing that by letting him keep his committee chairmanship.

I agree that Lieberman like any other American can choose whoever he damn well pleases on Election Day and even campaign for him. But the nasty stuff he said was just awful. Kick him out. If he starts voting with the GOP on social issues he'll be toast in his home state and that will be the end of his career.

To allow Lieberman to keep his chairmanship and allow him to continue to caucus with the Democratic Party would be a travesty. What message is this sending to the supporters of the Democratic Party? Lieberman needs kicked to the curb. Reid permitting Lieberman to stay is a sign of cowardice and poor leadership.

What a flake Harry Reid is. He is speaking out of both sides of his mouth. Lieberman did not support the democrats on the two most important issues of that particular time: the war in Iraq, then later the democratic nominee for president of the United States. Reid, hear ye hear ye - Lieberman must go.

Lieberman needs to be shown the door, Harry. You know it. We know it. The American people know it. There MUST be consequences for poor behavior and his behavior has been worse than poor. To think that just eight years ago he was Al Gore's VP candidate. It's stunning. The man has proven himself to be unreliable...untrustworthy. At a minimum, relieve him of his committee chairmanship(s).
