I Like ItI Don’t Like It
Sarah Palin

Rasmussen Reports, in a new poll published Friday, has some interesting data on how Republicans still have overwhelming positive feelings about Palin:

Ninety-one percent (91%) of Republicans have a favorable view of Palin, including 65% who say their view is Very Favorable. Only eight percent (8%) have an unfavorable view of her, including three percent (3%) Very Unfavorable.

When asked to choose among some of the GOP's top names for their choice for the party's 2012 presidential nominee, 64% say Palin. The next closest contenders are two former governors and unsuccessful challengers for the presidential nomination this year -- Mike Huckabee of Arkansas with 12% support and Mitt Romney of Massachusetts with 11%.

Three other sitting governors - Bobby Jindal of Louisiana, Charlie Crist of Florida and Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota - all pull low single-digit support.

I am surprised we did not elect Sarah Palin as vice-president. I mean, after all, she did wink at us a few times.

Sorry but 64% of a definite minority slice of the American electorate is not a good starting point. Given her abysmal numbers among democrats and independents, that probably means less that half the country even wants her to run - and she is a household name. That's a horrible position to start a presidential campaign. At least when Obama started running for president, no one knew who he was, so he had a huge upside potential.

Can't Republicans just change their name to the No-Nothing Party for the sake of accuracy?

Funny you should say that.

There was a political party called the Know Nothings in the Mid 19th century. It was made up of middle class protestants who were worked up over immigration (mostly against the Irish Catholics ). Sound familiar? It was absorbed into the Republican party in 1860.

History repeats itself.

Yes, I knew that there was a political party named the Know-Nothings at one time. But I did not know too much about their background. Thanks!

Run Palin Run! Democrats will then win such a majority in both houses that Republicans will be an endangered species. And Republicans have little sympathey for endangered species!

How can this keep being so funny and so true all at the same time? Yes, please Sarah, if 64% of Republicans and 100% of Democrats want you to run, how can you be a true patriot and refuse us? Please Sarah, please, run again. But don't let this four year delay keep you from the press. Oh no, you've got things to say and the American people can't wait to hear them. Our new administration is a glorious thing to behold.... but in these tough times we still need comic relief. Don't wait four years, talk more now. We're listening.

Exactly! Palin has important things to say like "You betcha!" and "Golly gee!" She also has to keep defining where exactly is the real America.

Yes, I think Palin said that she could "see America from Alaska" and
that qualifies her to be President of the USA any time she wants to.
Lots of "gumption" there, no?
President Gee Whiz.

We learned when W ran that we must encourage the republicans to put up qualified candidates. You never know when those Diebold machines are just going to let the idiot win.

I fear a Palin candidacy. It could mean the end of civilization if something should happen to Barack. That, of course, is exactly why the fundies want her to run.

I want her to run, while a moose and a timber wolf in a helicopter chase her. If a moose would even fit in a helicopter, that is... (it's a metaphor, folks).
I want her to run: far far away, and never be heard from in American politics again. She has enough to do being a parent ,and she needs to grow up and realize that.

I would rather see Gov. Jindal or Gov. Crist. Sarah doesn't have what it takes.

I am from Louisiana, and Jindal may know some of the issues facing the world, but this guys religious beliefs are two times worse than Sarah Palin's. And Crist is a nice guy, but I don't believe the republicans have evolved enough to elect a gay guy for president. Democrat would, but not the republicans

I want her to run. And be on the ticket somehow. We need her to make the democratic incumbents look stronger. So please do run. You got my vote.

Education should become the first priority starting January 21st. Adult education that is.
(sarcasm attempt)

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 06:43 AM on 11/09/2008

Accepting education depends upon accepting that you do not currently know everything. Sarah would never agree to such a statement (let alone entertain such a thought). Her attitude has always been based upon the Pink Floyd anthem "I Don't Need No.... Ed-ju-ka-shun." She's perfect; everyone is uninformed except her (and about her); and if you don't believe it, just ask her!

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 07:07 AM on 11/09/2008

I agree. My suggestion was to educate those that want to elect her. I do not think at her age and in her position education makes any sense any more for her or would change anything, even if she tried. Knowledge is not the same as intelligence, the last being vastly more important for a president and not accessable to training really.

Just to even the odds, Obama should send Malia to the podium.

It'll still be no contest.

Funny, funny comment!

I've been a Democrat/leftie my whole life, and I've more or less disagreeed with most aspects of the Republican agenda dating back to Nixon and before.

In all that time in opposition to the Repubs. I would have been forced to say that they were more or less COMPETENT to run the Federal Government even thogh I vehemently disagreed with the WAY they ran it.....and for whose benefit.

That of course, went by the boards with the election of et.al..et.al....
Had there been no inspring hope/change narrative this cycle...the Democrats could STILL have made a persuasive case by simply asking : GOT COMPETENCE?

As bad as Bush Republicanism was: these polls that say huge numbers of Republicans support Sarah Palin for PRESIDENT in 2012 suggest, impossibly, that it's gotten even worse.

Apparently Republicans no longer even take the Presidency SERIOUSLY, and view it something like American Idol or Survivor.

Those Republicans who DO take the Presidency seriously need not worry for now, 2012 is a long way off.

But if Palin's numbers among the rank and file hold up, my rightward leaning friends had better brace themselves for an extended period wandering in the electoral wilderness (the longer he better!).

A candidate vying for the Republican nomination against Palin may have the delicious opportunity to repeat one of Adili Stevenson's great lines:

Sir, you shall have the support of EVERY thinking Republican....

Damnit! Thats not enough....I need a MAJORITY!

tm

Tommy, I always thought Republicans were at least competent until Bush came along. Their disdain for government has spilled over to where they want to destroy it completely. They want the average citizen to hate it and fear it as they do. It is no way to run a modern democracy with a very diverse population. Democrat's could have won in this cycle on "got competence" or even "got milk." But you have to admit, "got competence" is probably not the most inspiring call to action. I like what Newt Gingrich advised Democrats to run on, he suggested "had enough?" Yes, I have had more than enough!

The republicans went after the Nascar/Evangelical dinosaur denying rednecks to overcome the fact that Southerners had hated them since Lincoln let the slaves go. What is unfortunately happening is that the anti-intellectualism of their new base is now taking over the party. That is very scary for America and the World.

You're kidding me! She knows nothing, is convinced of her own infallibility, and she preys on our basest instincts. This is a clear path to the destruction of our Country.

You want her to be our President?
