I Like ItI Don’t Like It
Val Kilmer

Val Kilmer. By cellphone from Bulgaria, he said: "There's sort of a rumor around that I'm maybe thinking about running to be governor of New Mexico? Well, it's sort of true. It's been my home 25 years. I really love my state. Poor, hardworking, decent people - Native Americans, carpenters, artists, expats mixed in with hundreds of the world's smartest physicists at Los Alamos. I've always thought of myself as functioning as a candidate for them.

"The media interests me and it's influenced politicians since the '60s, and I'm approaching this as a worthy serious endeavor. I would be very comfortable in my position as a representative for the people."

Val Kilmer? Who was the lead in "Batman Forever"? Moses in "The Prince of Egypt"? Druggy rocker Jim Morrison in "The Doors"? Ladykiller Val Kilmer? Governor of New Mexico?

"People in the state are being supportive. Our current governor, Bill Richardson, who's hoping to be picked as secretary of state, and whom I've seen down in the dirt helping people you know could never help him in return, and whom I love, had a dinner for me and said not to dismiss the idea. Said I could be a great governor.
...

"After I wrap this film, I'm off to LA to see my kids then home to New Mexico to talk to friends and see what they say. I know I'm not yet qualified for the job. It's not like I need fame. If that's what it's all about, I wouldn't live in New Mexico.

Danny DeVito would be a more interesting governor. I just like the thought of him waddling around being authoritative.

Val's got quite a waddle these days.

I don't know the faintest thing about him aside from the movies I've seen him in. He has to be smarter than Sarah Palin.

I am not only from New Mexico, but my family's been living in the same county Val Kilmer said was "80% drunk" and the "homicidal capital of the Southwest" in a Rolling Stone article which he said was a misquote for over 300 years. Although many locals may joke about this, it is also important to point out San Miguel county is also almost 80% Hispanic. Kilmer is most known and most remembered for these comments, even if his neighbors don't hold them against him the rest of Hispanic New Mexicans do and in order to win a nomination for the Democratic party (which he probably wouldn't against DIane Denish) you need strong Hispanic support. Even in calling the people of New Mexico "poor" his patronizing tone is clear... "candidate for them"? Is he hard-working, or a Native American, or poor? We have plenty of highly intelligent, qualified, and experienced candidates who come from here in this state.
(And we all know the Guv isn't going to be offering much enthusiastic support after he called him out about his bid for Sec. of State... in NM politics that's a pretty big No-No.)
Stay on your gated ranch, por favor!!

I didn't read that RS article, but it is absolutely true that NM has a terrible drunk driving problem. There has been some improvement with all the crackdowns, but there is some awful accident due to drunken driving almost everyday. I'm not Hispanic, mearosa, but you must know that its true about the alcohol problems here.. I doubt VK was making a slur against the native population of our beautiful state.

I don't live very far from Kilmer. He IS patronizing to the locals and has foot-in-mouth disease. I don't see him getting that much support there. I want someone who was born here, not a "gracious" and patronizing movie actor.

He was the voice of Kitt in the Knight Rider remake that is on NBC. That's how far his star has fallen.

From a NM resident--Val, love your acting. If you want to be in politics, get a lot of experience first. Too many celebrites attempt the political stage without training. Get some training on the smaller stage first.

Governor Val: "You can be my Lieutenant Governor anytime"

" That's him Governor Kilmer... He governs the way he flies..Ice Cold"

"The Plaque for the loser of the Governor race is in The Ladies Room"

I could go on and on!!!!

I've met him a couple times out here, he is kind of my neighbor,(not joking) and he seemed to be a nice guy. He has had his moments out here and he has some regrets about some things he has said. But I don't think this is a very good move right now. He has started to get more involved in certain issues affecting NM and has given some time and energy to those, but I don't know if NM is ready for this.

I'm sure he'd make an okay governor, but Michael Keaton would do it better.

You must be joking
We the people of New Mexico will not vote for him
Diane Denish will be Gov.
We have better sense and Val has behaved badly in public here for 25 years

What a joke, Val Kilmer is known in the entertainment industry as being a total diva. If the way he treats people on sets is any indicator, this would be an epic FAIL.

Okay, you are a fine, FINE man Val but please don't run for governor.

I hope this country has grown up and learned that we should only elect QUALIFIED, INTELLIGENT, FOWARD-THINKING, COMPETENT people with fresh ideas to move this country ahead.

No more actors. No more frauds. Okay.

The only frauds come from the right side of the aisle. You are a bigot when you make a statement like that. You have to have a high level of intelligence to be an actor except when you mention Raygun or Ahnold.

Great actor...His portrayal of John Holmes in "Wonderland" is gritty and underrated. Can he play Governor? Though he seems like a good liberal in this article, I've seen him on the hard core god channels a couple times. ...... Scary stuff. HARD CORE god channels.

"hard core god channels"? WTF? Please explain.

I just KNEW Governor Palin would be an inspirational figure in American politics. Val Kilmer and thousands like him have to be saying, "If SHE can be a governor, why can't anyone?" That biting gesture he made towards Cruise's Maverick in the Top Gun locker room scene was a little...huh...strange, but maybe the Republicans wouldn't be able to use it in an ad.

'Course the real tough part would be having to follow an actual governor like Bill Richardson...

This has been mentioned for a couple of years. Long before that person from Alaska.

Val Kilmer is so hot! We may be having a Senator's job opening up soon here in AZ, he could come over here and run for that office.

We're as nice as NM and closer to LA ;-)
