Rahm Emanuel

Wall Street Journal:

In Rahm Emanuel's telling, the Democratic victories on Tuesday were a continuum of what began in the 2006 midterm elections, when his party won majorities in the House and the Senate for the first time in 12 years. "After 2006, I said it was George Bush and the desire for change," the congressman from Chicago's North Side tells me. "And the same cocktail contributed to this turnout. You had Barack Obama's message of change and Bush and the Republicans' record of incompetence."

Mr. Emanuel would know. As chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, he helped engineer that GOP thumpin' two years ago. And as Mr. Obama's incoming White House chief of staff -- a position he accepted on Thursday -- he's certain to have an outsized say in how the Dems use their political monopoly come January.

When Gay couples can produce pregnant females because of Gay lovemaking, I will agree they are equal to Straight couples and should be able to use the term, “marriage”. Until it is possible for Gay love making to produce a pregnant female, as can Straight lovemaking produce a pregnant female, gays and straights are not equals, and should not be treated as equals or given equal marriage status.

I'm encouraged by this interview. The last thing I want to see the Obama Administration do is get tied down by these ideological culture-war type of issues.

The only danger of Rahm Emanuel is if he went off on his own agenda. But - he has never shown any propensity towards that. His job is to help carry out the President's agenda.
He understands his function, and he is a tough and very effective guy.
He has the guts to not only face the Republicans, but he can knock heads to keep the spineless Democrats in line.
I say he was a good choice.

Is having a spine what keeps democrats from "reaching across the aisle"? I thought Obama campaigned on a promise of "bipartisanship"? Don't you support him on that?

There's a lot of work that needs to be done. The Bush administration has to be the worse in U.S. history!

For your sake I hope Obama gets more than one term.......Hell, it'll take 4 years just for you dems to quit whining and moaning about Bush! If Obama doesn't get reelected some of you may not even realize that he was ever president..

Wow. Why would a feminist use such words against another woman? That's completely nasty and uncalled for.

Rahm is right. His last words mean much: Listen to what the American people want, since Americans are pragmatic.

For all Rahm's supporters on here, are you concerned that he sat on the board of Freddie Mac & was Wall Street's no#1 donor?

I voted for Obama & still support him, but I'm not drinking anymore kool-aid until he walks the walk.

I'm not an Obama or a Rahm supporter and, yeah, it bothers me that O bama, in the current climate, chooses someone who was on the board of Freddie Mac and is almost solely responsible for getting Democrats to support the bailout. It doesn't bode well for the future...but is about what I expected...same old politics as usual.
