Undoing The Damage

Washington Post :

Transition advisers to President-elect Barack Obama have compiled a list of about 200 Bush administration actions and executive orders that could be swiftly undone to reverse White House policies on climate change, stem cell research, reproductive rights and other issues, according to congressional Democrats, campaign aides and experts working with the transition team.

A team of four dozen advisers, working for months in virtual solitude, set out to identify regulatory and policy changes Obama could implement soon after his inauguration. The team is now consulting with liberal advocacy groups, Capitol Hill staffers and potential agency chiefs to prioritize those they regard as the most onerous or ideologically offensive, said a top transition official who was not permitted to speak on the record about the inner workings of the transition.

Question to all those who said the tro//s would fade away once the election was over.

What happened?

Because it would be really nice if we could post in peace.

I'm not sure who told you the troIIs would go away because they won't.

Really - it's best to mostly ignore them.

Well those people were clearly n00bs.

Trollz never die. Not on any forum. They're like background radiation, not actually at dangerous levels but never really going away either.

There's just too much hate and fear out there. I guess we'll just have to be patient and have faith in the power of transformation.

I am overwhelmed at this news; I had hoped Obama had been efforting in this preparation. Tears formed thinking of all the porgress we will now be able to effort. Isn't it ironic that a "states rights" administration would step on CA pollution efforts. The anti -science agenda will be gone with the wind. I only wish I had been selected for this team; as I have been keeping a list of policies myself, that I have seen deterimentaly changed in the last eight years. I have seen many changes of the guard in 35 years of (some form) goverment service. Many many times, once the new administration comes into power, they flip flop or cave to the staus quo. This man is true to his beliefs and made of steel. Determination and superior intelligence. America and the world is truly fortunate.

There is an interactive form on Obama's transition-team website, Change.gov, asking citizens to share their vision and suggestions. This may be a good way for you to share your policy Wish List.

Overtly political reasons on Bushes part? More like overtly Religious reasons on his part. In a secular society based on law and not church how those laws disallowing the right for foreign Countries not to obtain the rights and knowledge about abortions ever got through I don't know. And we all know about Bushes beliefs on how "the Rapture" might have fueled his policies on gas emissions. More like gas us to death and start "the Revelation". I feel like we've been through hell and there's a light at the end of the tunnel.

Folks,

This is a wonderful day.

The id-iot tr0//s are coming out the woodwork and scrambling to do anything in their power to bring us down with their ignorant words.

But you know what -- it can't work. Not now. Not with President-Elect Obama in coming into office.

So keep it coming tr0//s; because for every post you make, that is just more evidence of your weakness and ignorance and there is a lot of delight in that for me.

In Australia in 1975 the incoming PM Whitlam enacted a lot of laws all in one hit and it left people completely stunned. The net result of his overly pushy politics was he was removed from office and a special election was held to replace the entire federal government.

Those elections saw Whitlam booted out of office but most of his changes were adopted in the longer run. I'd rather see Obama last longer and pace the changes, than fall into the trap of changing too much too fast and burn his political promise fast and bright.

What about the Patriot Act? What about habeas corpus? Until we get our constitutional rights restored, everything else is really irrelevant.

No more surveillance of Americans! The idiots are so obsessed with snooping on people's private conversations they don't have time to find the real enemies of the state.

2.) The Bush administration reversed the reversed gag order that forbids some groups from speaking to foreign groups about abortion while receiving government money for their endeavors. Again a moral and ethical difference, supported by many, that goes only to how government dollars (public money) is spent. He did this while doing more and spending more to stop and control AIDS in Africa than anyone ever. This gag order will continue to be reversed back and forth as administrations change and presidents exercise their prerogative in this area as suits their moral and ethical position...

This will be a good start. It will be nice having policies relating to science that are actually based on science and not religious ideology. And environmental protection agency that protects the environment.

And, most of all, a president I can feel proud of.

Absolutely.

So let's see, the to do list looks something like this...

1.) The Bush administration (the first to authorize government spending on stem cell research) placed restrictions on government funded stem cell research based on their moral and ethical beliefs (their prerogative) which only restricted government dollars spent on newly acquired lines from newly acquired tissue through means that go against the moral and ethical beliefs of many people.
Private industry was free to pursue whatever it wanted and has done so.. But the lame-brained publish or perish community wanted to get MORE public funding to pursue mostly specious projects and were aided by the "right to choose" crowd and a bunch of suffering folks who don't understand the science but were led to believe that a panacea lay right around the corner "if only "..... So the 'O' will open the flood gate to 'government spending' on all stem cell research even though most evidence shows that the approach is wrong and private studies for commercial purposes are no closer to any usability for having researched and worked with other stem cell lines. This includes all foreign research where no such restrictions were in place....

OOOOO, Change...

More to come

Better than having a president who exercises the "moral" prerogative of spending massive money and creating massive debt in order to kill people.

You may need to read science journals where applications of stem cell research are made completely explicit.

Nature alone has almost 4,500 articles on stem cells. So err... yeah.

You clearly have no conception of how the scientific research community in this country works. Just like John McCain, you think that the answer is private industy. Where, pray tell, do we get the people to work in private industry if they cannot train under government funding in, as you call it, the "publish or perish community"?

You cant solve the economic problems unless you solve the healthcare proble. 70% of Americans want single payer. 56% of Physisicans and Fortune 500 companies want single payer. 30% under medicare already have that. Controversial?

Yet Repugs say its controverisal and will not work.. It works everywhere else in the world. Our system does not work. Take it from some one who owns 5 cancer treatment centers.

She said it was anxiety brought on by the stress of this election. How awful.
