Undoing The Damage

Washington Post :

Transition advisers to President-elect Barack Obama have compiled a list of about 200 Bush administration actions and executive orders that could be swiftly undone to reverse White House policies on climate change, stem cell research, reproductive rights and other issues, according to congressional Democrats, campaign aides and experts working with the transition team.

A team of four dozen advisers, working for months in virtual solitude, set out to identify regulatory and policy changes Obama could implement soon after his inauguration. The team is now consulting with liberal advocacy groups, Capitol Hill staffers and potential agency chiefs to prioritize those they regard as the most onerous or ideologically offensive, said a top transition official who was not permitted to speak on the record about the inner workings of the transition.

Yo BamBam...

If you really have children in an IB programme, I would think you would have more global community enlightened views since that is what the curricula espouses. Good on you either way - it is an excellent academic programme even if it is direct opposition of what you post here.

One of our local reichwing radio talkies was telling her listeners a few weeks before the election that the IB Programme's goal was to teach our children anti-American, pro-New World Order beliefs. She came off about as educated as you do in your posts here, as in not-very.

They are the opposite of me in that respect but i do not force my views upon them, they know what my views are and i know what theirs are and we share a mutual respect

It seems like you are expressing more hayred of other peoples views than your own. You should ask John Mcain how that works out in a nation of many different cultures.

I just hope he doesn't get too bogged down in some of these policy issues at the very beginning of his administration as Bill Clinton did. He should keep conflict to a minimum until he can achieve some success on the major issues.

I agree. Rahm will help keep the President on course, and keep those wanting to push their own agenda (pelosi, etc.) at bay while the President gets his agenda done, without too much discourse. However, you can expect the Repugs to whine and cry out their loudest during the first 100 days of Obama's presidency. It will be interesting to see if they cease this behavor to become part of the solution or remain part of the problem. They need to remember that there was a clear mandate for change in our government. The more the Repugs cry and put up a fight, the more the America people will see them as negative and a problem.

Torture needs to be the first legacy of the past presidency to be thrown on the ash heap of history. An executive order can be enacted on the first day. This would be an act immediately restoring much of our prestige in the world.

We, as a nation, have moved light years ahead with this wonderful man's election to the Presidency. The evangelical right is lamenting but WHO CARES????? I certainly don't after they and Bush and company have destroyed this country.

"I certainly don't after they and Bush and company have destroyed this country."

If this country were really destroyed, Obama would not be President Elect right now.

The left's lack of faith and overall pessimism has been a real downer over the last few years. It actually turned many of them against America.

America proved itself to be the greatest country on earth last tuesday. It should be a lesson in FAITH for the LEFT.

you do realize that you lose all credibility when you use bogus buzzwords like 'the left' as if it was real, don't you?

you guys really need to get out of your basements, turn off the radio, and get some sunshine

it's good for you.

"The evangelical right is lamenting but WHO CARES?????"

I am with you and so should the rest of the sane members of the human race.

The religious right, along with the republican party, overplayed their hand by going all in on borrowed time and money from the Clinton years. With Obama's ascendency, the far right has played itself and has now become all but irrelavent. The policy positions they hold dear have been exposed as old and odd dogma. This is a new day for, not only the US, but, the world. I think most sane individuals who happen to be religious understand that science, too, is a way of life which deserves consideration and support. The 6000 year old flat, geo-centric world crowd is a punchline. Not a viable ideology.

They are zealots who subvert patriotism for their own narrow agenda. Does anyone think that they, and the right wing media pundits who incite them, really want President Obama to succeed? If so ,they would hold their rhetoric until at least 6-months after his inaugaration. Of course their ratings might suffer in the process, and his detractors might have to admit that they were wrong.

Out with secrecy in with decency
I think this commission is probably being flooded with requests from civil servants who have seen their agencies turned upsidedown and insideout by Boooooosh. Also look for a flood of bright, competent applicants for jobs within this new admin and for career civil servant positions.

Remember Cheney's secret "Enron" energy meetings? How horrific has this secret model been as it spread throughout this past administration.

They are what makes a society civilized. Without them you have anarchy. Look at Iraq (after our invasion and abolishment of the gov employees) and Afghanistan. Anarchy is what you get without civil servants. America's peaceful transition occurs because the gov keeps working even when the appointees and elected leaders change.

"Career civil servants are part of the problem."

I think of all my friends in the Foreign Service who have managed to hold up under the various administrations and do the work of the people as political appointees come and go. Their honor, dignity, integrity, sacrifice and hard work over the many years belies your statement.

I voted for Obama because I felt he had the intelligence and integrity to do the job.

I'll trust in his decisions until there is evidence that I shouldn't.

At least we waited until Bush started performing criminal acts before we started bashing him.

It took less time than that. His response to 911 was despicable. He was barely in office 100 days, and all hell broke loose. Next was the fake made up WMD Iraq war, a war he delighted in by giving it brand names, Iraq-kee Freedom, and Shock and Awe, which I turned my stomach, and the Katrina and his slow as a snail response to that. The Patriot Act and our civil liberties, and the list is soooooo long, just thinking about it makes me sick.

9 months? You mean the period when he did absolutely nothing as president but, cut taxes for the rich and ignore actionable intelligence which lead to 9-11? Bush was a president who was ready on day one. Ready to do nothing, say nothing coherent and neglect the duties of the highest office in the world. He (along with the Gutter Operations Party) was a criminal from day zero.
