Palin

Chicago Tribune:

A couple of months ago, there was a media kerfuffle when Oprah Winfrey said she would not have Gov. Sarah Palin on the show during the election.

Now that the election is over, the door is open to the former vice presidential candidate. A representative for Oprah's talk show said that "we have extended an invitation" to the Alaska governor.

People have been whining for months about why Oprah did not invite Palin to her show. Now, that she has, people are still whining. My goodness, you know Palin is not trying to go on Oprah's show - that 'Gotcha Media' environment. They do unfair things, like, ask questions.

Oprah or someone in her audience may actually ask her a real question, like, "why were you so eager to incite racial and cultural divisiveness and hatred in our country when this is a time that our country would benefit the most from pulling together to over come our social, economic, and foreign crisis - that are simultaneously happening?"

Do you really think that she would have a good answer? Do you really think that anyone will want to hear it? Do you really think that she would know what simultaneously means? Let's face it, 'Joe the Not so much a Plumber, Drill Baby Drill, He's an…an…an Arab,' crowd will not be in the audience at the Oprah show.

I'm sick of Oprah AND Palin

I love Oprah. Can't get enough of her.

By Palin's expectation of what constitutes "fair media" (think Barney the Dinosaur) Oprah would be waaaay too tough an outing. Palin is a self-pitying incompetent - it's scary she has a following.

It is scary that Palin has a following. People in my office keep saying that she is intriguing because she is so down to earth and she seems to be just everyday folk. Maybe they did not use the word intriguing, more like, 'cool.'

When was it ever a good idea for everyday folk to run our country? Let us not forget W. The arrogance of people to think that it is O.K. to be mediocre or second-rate and that should be enough to earn the right to lead this great country. When did striving for excellence, brilliance and distinction become a vice? Our forefathers would have been considered elitist and part of the intelligentsia that the right wing seems to mock and hate so much. Dare I say that George Washington would probably not be elected by the right wing today, if he were to run in our day and age? George Washington was not a Christian but a Deist – along with Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, Ethan Allen, James Madison, and James Monroe – unfortunately that would disqualify him from being president of the United States in today’s climate.

FYI- this is not a claim against Christianity, I myself am a Christian. This is a protest against ignorance!

Oprah and Sarah Palin together? No. That would be way over the narcissism quotient for any show....

I would need stomach medication in order to watch it.

It should be a special "Favorite Things Episode- The Palin Edition".
Everybody in the audience gets a shotgun, taxidermy, lipstick, and their own pregnant teenage daughter!

Gosh, Oprah—how very generous of you!
I understand this: the election dragged on forever and that it was divisive and mean-spirited. And I can understand, emotionally, why O would not want The Maverick in her space. TM was saying so many bizarre things about Her America and Our America, that O could not fathom how TM could survive in her studio audience, comprised mostly of O’s (and My) America. So now that O (Obama) has won, does that change the messages that TM has delivered to Her America? I mean, does O (Oprah) now forget/forgive the divisive nature of TM’s rants, simply because Our America is in power? I need some help here.
In a weird sort of way, I felt a bit of that post 9/11 feeling—before we attacked Iraq. We were all in this together. There were still differences among us—party, race/ethnicity, gender/sexual preferences—but they were not as pronounced as they are today. Were we nicer? Were we more tolerant of differences? Maybe.
So many Americas. And so many Americas jockeying for position. Which America are you hoping gets Obama’s attention? Which America are you hoping gets Oprah’s attention? Which America are you hoping gets Palin’s attention? There is only one correct answer—and I am not going to tell you.
I do hope that Obama gets a pay increase—if he has to lead all of these Americas, he should get a bump up in his salary. I would pay higher taxes for that.

The sad thing about this is that if she went on the show, it would probably be one of the most watched Oprah episodes ever. I don't get the fascination with Palin...makes no sense to me. But I guess people just watch her to see her stumble and fall flat on her face.

Wrecks are bad, but people break their necks to watch.

Well let's see, there are the disbelievers (as in how could this have happened to start with?) true believers, the braindead and guys who think she is hot (redundant?), carwreck and natural disaster watchers, comedy writers and fans of social ridulousness, and no doubt "other", whatever that might be.

Palin will now get more air time AFTER the election than before. What the hell is wrong with that? They sheltered this woman from the media for some reason so in the few interviews she did, she came off as an airhead. For those of us who do not watch Fox, there was no chance to see her in a different light. It all seems so foolish to even interview her now.

Great! I will watch, watch her become the political equivalent of Paris Hilton.

Between that accent and the way she puts sentences together, I feel like I'm listening to someone who learned English by watching Yoda and Fargo.

That said, I can't get enough of the hilarity.

Sarah Palin needs to meet up with her match....

She needs to go on "Tyra"

Tyra is just as lamebrained..it's a win-win.

I'd take 20 Tyra Banks clones to any one Sarah Palin.

You betcha'.

Tyra Banks was extremely successful in an incredibly difficult field.

Palin, on the other hand, is Governor of a state with less population than our top 25 cities.

I hope that the GOP continues to see this woman as the standard bearer for their party. Her views and divisive manner will make them irrelevant for years to come.

WillCooney: I'm going to stick my neck out on this one. I've got a gut feeling that the Palin woman will go on to the celebrity circut. Being paid to party, or whatever it is that celebs do. (apart from being irrelevant and boring fools). My reasoning being she may not have the persistence to stick around on the back-burner until the next election. If ever I've seen an addict it is her. She loves the applause and the attention, and it's a bit much to have to wait another four years to get her fix. Well she spent all that money on clothes (I don't buy the idea she returned them) so at least it won't be wasted,
Anyway, it's just a theory.

Cheers
