What's Your Reaction?
Palin

Chicago Tribune:

A couple of months ago, there was a media kerfuffle when Oprah Winfrey said she would not have Gov. Sarah Palin on the show during the election.

Now that the election is over, the door is open to the former vice presidential candidate. A representative for Oprah's talk show said that "we have extended an invitation" to the Alaska governor.

I hope you are not implying Oprah's treatment of James Frey was something to be admired. She treated him apallingly as he sat by and quietly listened. She had not done her homework and took it out on James. Sure Sarah could be in for the same kind of scathing attack - she at least provided the material for such an attack. James did not!

I thought it showed enormous integrity & intellect for Oprah to admit she was wrong about the book & confront the author face to face, eye to eye on live TV. It showed great respect for her viewers to hold him accountable. More in media should demand honesty from their guests.

On that particualr program Oprah did NOT show either integrity or intellect. She just wanted to find someone to blame because she (and her staff) did not do their homework. Is fabricating the truth (as Oprah did) the same as lying. Therein lies (no pun intended) the question as well as the answer.

Tsk Tsk! Guess you didn't do your homework either.

Oprah stuck to her word by not using her show as an election platform. Obama was not even invited on the show after he became a nominee. I commend her for that.

Now she can interview the all.

Plus, I was thinking.....since when does Oprah interview Vice Presidents? I think she's only interviewed Presidents in the past.

I bet Palin won't do Oprah. I think she'd be intimidated. My guess is Palin will stick to Fox News interviews.

If Palin were smart, she would have realized by now that Faux News can't get her to where she wants to go. She needs the moderate viewers in Oprah's audience. She needs to repair her image. She needs to get her side of the story out there in a meaningful way and that is not by doing an interview with Hannity, O'Reilly or anyone else on Faux News.

Failin Palin's too busy blaming the MSM for making her look bad to do ANY interviews other than Fox Noise. All them doggone high fallootin' "smart" journalists, askin' all those "gotcha" questions, like "What newspapers do you read?" Sheesh! WHO READS?! She won't go on "Oprah". Lady O has a book club. There might be other "reading-type" "gotcha" questions she'll have to answer!

Two Words...James Frey.

I think Lady O has something for her

Other than James Frey whom made a public embarrasment of her...I can't think of anyone else that she really gave a hard time to. Now, if Palin can't answer simple questions such as what newpapers she reads...well then..that's on her sorry behind. Otherwise...it will most surely be a fluff piece. Oprah's McCain supporting viewers are already upset with her. There is no way that she will alienate them by being even remotely hard on Palin. Like I said below...Palin needs to hightail it to Oprah ASAP!!!

People seem to think that Oprah is some sort of card carrying Democrat...she is not. Even she has admitted that she has voted Republican in the past. Remember...she had W on her show. She also did a cover story with Laura Bush for "O" magazine that was very lovely and complimentary of the First Lady.

The Laura Bush cover story was right after 9/11 when everyone was sucking up to the Bushes. Oprah's political contributions have been 95% Democratic. Also, she supported Obam even in the primary & he has the most liberal voting record in the senate. Of course she likes to maintain a bipartisan image.

I meant to attach this to your post Madmac:-

I hope you are not implying Oprah's treatment of James Frey was something to be admired. She treated him apallingly as he sat by and quietly listened. She had not done her homework and took it out on James. She was NOT a lady that day yet James WAS a gentleman.

Sure Sarah could be in for the same kind of scathing attack - she at least provided the material for such an attack. James did not!

Her treatment of James frey was very much to be admired. When someone knowingly lies to your audience, the honorable thing to do is drag them back on TV, look them straight in the eye & hold them accountable. That's called integrity & actual journalists could learn a lot from Oprah.

Appalling treatment? Seriously? Frey came on her show and told lie after lie on her show, and Oprah put her name and company's trust on the line by sponsoring his book. I read "A Million Little Pieces" after seeing that show, and I personally was PISSED OFF after learning it was mostly fake. (Though in retrospect: it all seemed a bit much.)
Oprah's response was simply the echo of her audience: "How dare you?!"

What I loved reading was the comments from the original story: one Palin supporte: "Plain has too much class to go on Oprah" another said that "Palin has a good job as govenor and makes good money, so she doesn't need to go on the show" what maroons!

You know, Palin needs to sit down with a psychiatrist first and come to grips with what just happened to her - she does not need Oprah - she needs help -

You know the most frightening thing of all? Palin's parents and older brother are TEACHERS! Clearly ONE child was left behind!

P.S.

I think Oprah and Sarah have a lot in common. The have many faces. Their true color comes out when provoked and it has nothing at all to do with BLACK and WHITE.

Oprah can be very cruel and back biting. I have not watched her show since the shameful way she attacked James Frey. He on the other hand did not answer back and conducted himsenf with integrity.

Soooooooo Sarah if you want to put yourself out there go on her show and remember Oprah has the hammer.

How did she attack him? She asked tough questions. Where I'm from we call that journalism.

Palins 'Barbie doll' act and the fact she is a attractive woman seems to calm the beast side of some men,her little girl innocence and DUMB BLONDE ACT seems to turn the men into softies .Dr.Phil would turn into jell0 if he interviewed Palin.Even the tough guy pigs ,Hannity,O'Rielly and Limbaugh melted when interviewing Palin,.

True. Any time he's had a pregnant teen on his show in the past, the FIRST question is "WHERE WERE THE PARENTS?" but as soon as Letterman asked Phil if maybe the Palins should have had a talk with Bristol, Phil couldn't rush to their defense fast enough. It was pathetic.

Dear Oprah,

No thanks, but thanks Oprah, I think I will appear on your little ole' show. I want to set the record straight also, as well as let people know I just love JM also. I would love to come to Chicago also, and shop until I drop. The 1st Dude would also love to come, and I would just love to bring my children also. Yup, yup we just can't wait.

I want the Real America to know how much I love them for being pro-American and well, with respect to the rest of the anti-American parts, I want them to know I love them too, just not as much as the pro-American parts. So thank you Oprah for giving me the chance to say to America, "I love being a governor", but I am thinking very had, also, about making a run in 2012, if pro-America would have me. I look forward to hearing back from you also Oprah.

Your's in sincere ignorance,
Sarah, the governor-hater

P.S. Can you have me on the same day you do your favorite things? I would just love to come back home to Alaska with thousands of dollars worth of gifts for me and my family and maybe even some for my new friends.

Oprah, if Sarah Palin dares to appear on your show (not likely - she's favoring FOX these days), please ask her about this:

Sarah Palin can refuse or accept the invitation. I will not be tuning in to watch the show if she accepts. On the campaign trail she said nothing of relevance or interest or intellectually stimulating to the process to perk my curiosity. Since the election her utterings have given me no reason to believe that she has become smarter.
