Washington Monthly:

Vice President-elect Joe Biden leaves an open chairmanship on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee that could end up being filled by one of the most outspoken critics of the Iraq war.

Sen. Russ Feingold (D-Wisc.), among the chamber's most liberal members, is the fourth Democrat in line on the committee, behind Biden, Sen. Chris Dodd (Conn.) and Sen. John Kerry (Mass.).

Dodd said Thursday he plans to stay on as chairman of the Senate Banking Committee. Kerry is reportedly lobbying to be President-elect Barack Obama's Secretary of State.

Feingold is my favorite Senator!

But I don't think he'll become Senate Majority Leader anytime in the near future. He doesn't kiss but rather KICKS (justifiably!) backsides and that didn't make him any friends in the Senate that have to vote for him as Leader.

I think, however, he'll do an EXCELLENT job as Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee. It will give him more power and clout, and in addition to helping President Obama wind down the Iraq occupation so we can get out troops out of there, over time, he'll garner more support for Sen. Maj. Leader.

Feingold is the perfect choice to replace Senator, now Vice President-elect Joe Biden.

Russ would be a fine choice. He would be an asset that Obama must exploit to be successful the next 8 years.

Russ Feingold could be in any position from Pres. on down in my book. The best of the country is represented in him. He deserves a high profile positon. I would love to see him as majority leader.

That would be great although I would rather see Feingold replace Leahy on Judiciary if he stepped down rather than Schumer or Feinstein.

Feingold should get what's coming to him...and if the spineless wing of the Dem party prevents it there should be hell to pay.

I don't know if Feingold is a lawyer but he has the kind of ethics that would be right for Atty General.
There would be an end put to corruption post haste.!

Russ epitomizes the post partisan, work across the aisle style that Obama says he stands for. He would be a great choice, but rest assured, he will speak truth to power if they go against his principles.

He is my senator, and I've always respected and been proud of him!

Give Russ Harry's job, he has an intellegent mind and the country isn't just an amusing toy to him like it is to Harry and Nancy!

That is a good idea. Reid never was a leader & it's hopeless to think that he could grow into a leader. The US Senate has other leaders besides Sen Feingold. Reid can & must be replaced at once. Mr Emanuel, BHO's COS, can craft a way to remove Pelosi & Reid. The congress can remove Reid & Pelosi & replace them with people who are leaders or can develop into leaders rapidly. The job should be completed as the 111th Congress is organized. That will allow the congress to rapidly delaberate(sp?) upon law BHO wants, alter them [if necessary] & enact the legislation. The 111th Congress must accomplish a great deal.

I'll second that. Any move that takes Harry and Nancy out of the limelight would benefit all Americans.
