Obamas

Barack and Michelle Obama had their first dinner out since the election. The pool report:

Barack and Michelle Obama left dinner at Spiaggia at 11pm Saturday night after a roughly three hour dinner.

Dressed in a dark suit and white shirt, Obama waved to an ecstatic crowd gathered across the street as he and Michelle rushed through the cold wind.

Michelle, wearing an elegant black knee-length jacket and tall black boots, held her coat closed as she walked to the waiting SUV.

The crowd continued to rejoice, hugging one another and cheering as the motorcade pulled off.
It was the couple's first dinner out together since his election victory, and they selected the same restaurant where they spent their anniversary and Michelle's birthday this year.

Spiaggia is located at 980 N. Michigan Ave.
The motorcade headed through light traffic on Lakeshore Drive to the Obama's home, where it arrived at 11:18pm.

just wondering... when is the funeral for his grandma

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 01:08 PM on 11/09/2008

I don't think she is having one.

Apparently, there's a ceremony that she wanted for later this year.

His mom was cremated and her ashes were spread into the water from a plateau in Hawaii; that might be what she wants as well.

HER MEMORIAL IS IN THE BEGINNING OF DEC.

Barack's mother was cremated and he threw her ashes out to sea in Hawaii. Maybe he will wait and do the same when he becomes President. Having a grandson do it ,who has become President, would be so neat.

It's a memorial service and it's going to be December. I believe that she was buried in a quiet family ceremony.

Don't give the name of restaurants our President Elect frequents, and then too make sure every employee background has been checked throughly...... especially new hires.

Am I a bit paranoid? Yes!!!

Don't panic the secret service sweeps the restaurant before they enter, the dogs sniff out guns, bombs, etc and all employees must pass the secret service criteria in order to be there........................ It's 2008 baby.

I'm glad you said so Sylmason, I was thinking the same thing.

I work in DC and they have very strict protocol about security.

Still...it would be nice if the Obamas could get a shred of privacy before they technically become all ours upon entering the WH. Don't get me wrong...I'm as avid as the next person in knowing some of the little personal details that make them the family they are...but if we could all just give them a little breathing space...I think it would be greatly appreciated!!!

Seriously. I completely agree.

The President's most important job is protecting the country.

To do that, he must first of all protect himself. And we should all do whatever we can to help with that, even details like this.

Especially with the right-wing still stirring up hate (and why Limbaugh is allowed to spew his lies on air is a complete mystery to me. What ever happened to "airways in the public trust"?)

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 01:10 PM on 11/09/2008

"Airways in the public trust" disappeared when The Fairness Doctrine(equal time for all sides of an issue) was repealed by the Rethuglicans. Nothing else explains All RightWing propaganda All The Time that is presently on air. Sickening, isn't it?

No! You are not being paranoid. Must the media report everything??? They can't even police themselves. I have long said and truly believe the media is our worst enemy. I don't ever wonder why our governments keep some things from us. THE MEDIA

Heh well iam sure the restaurant owners love the free press, and i wouldn't be surprised if they gained more customers.

It was retrospective. I'm sure they didn't give out the information before. i am also sure that the restaurant was carefully vetted by the Secret Service before the Obamas got there. His ability to move without an entourage has ended.

The Berghoff is still open, just slightly different. Same location, apparently run by the children who decided to do only catering, but then expanded to the "Berghoff Cafe", pretty much the same menu, and the same great beer. Still have the best sauerbraten I've ever tasted.

Barack and Michelle are the epitome of a class act!

But I'm sure GW and Laura went out after the 2000 election, to Buba's BBQ and Saloon in Crawford. Would have been great to see GW (or, for that matter, Laura) ride that mechanical bull! :-)

Yes, they will definitely bring "class" to the WH. They have a strong marriage, and family bond. Pure CLASS, with a capital C.

Hey mjb5406, don't knock it. For all we know, "Buba's BBQ and Saloon" probably has the most tender and finger-licking beef that side of Dixie. And the best bulls for the riding. Yee haw!

Why do so many dems seem to hate BBQ? Come on, when done right it's as good as any American food out there. And the great restaurants fill you up for a week. Do you really think the Obamas don't occasionally enjoy some Robinson's Ribs? Give me some pulled pork with a sweet tea and I'm in hog heaven! Criticize the right all you want, I'm with you, but leave my smoked meats alone!

I'm a dem and grew up in a dem household where BBQ was served regularly. Both parents from the south (father - Louisiana, mom - North Carolina). It's not just a Texas thing. In fact, my father would BBQ year round. IN OHIO. I've done it myself IN THE SNOW. Like father, like daughter. There's something about the taste of BBQ in the dead of winter. The best. Yum, yum. I'm sure the Obamas have done plenty of BBQs of their own. They were at one on the campaign trail. :)

He still has date night with her, I can tell it one of his biggest priorities to keep his marriage strong. He sends a great example to the rest of us. Like as busy as he was he took time off to be with his daughter on Halloween and during other birthdays and anniversaries.

I hope busy men see the example.

There's just something nice about having a president-in-waiting that one can be so proud of.

They look so happy and relaxed, and I hope they are able to enjoy themselves like this for as long as they can.
