New York Times:

Just before midnight on Nov. 4, I wasn't that worried.

Sure, the election results had been bad -- but they weren't devastating. Obama wasn't winning the popular vote by double-digit margins, as some polls had suggested he might. Republican losses in the Senate and House were substantial but not catastrophic. Obama was ahead of John McCain by about the same margin with which Bill Clinton defeated George Bush in 1992, and he would be taking over in January with similar Congressional majorities to Clinton's in 1993.

I really do wonder how the conservatives get this right-of-center idea that they pull out of their back pocket at nearly every occasion. Do they ask people to self-describe whether they are a)left-wing, b)centrist, c) right-wing?

If so, no wonder they are getting skewed results. Few people outside of HP fans would describe themselves as left-wing.

Hopefully, they instead are asking people their opinions on 20-30 questions and then conducting their analysis on those responses. Somehow, though, I doubt it....

Nowhere in this article does Kristol show any concern for the problems America faces - no, only a concern for when the Conservatives can return to power. Nowhere does he acknowledge that the Conservatives bear any responsibility for these problems, he only longs for the day when the worm turns and people like himself are again steering America's course. He obviously thinks what happened is just "one of those things" and it is only a matter of time before Conservatism rises again. He doesn't understand that America has seen the ruin that nearly 8 years of total Conservative rule has wrought - no one wants to return to that, ever. Conservatism is locked into its own unchangeable dogma, and only its die-hard dead enders still embrace it.

Too bad Mr. Kristol is not running for political office (apparently, he prefers being behind the scenes crafting policy via PNAC and other organizations). I can just hear the ad against his candidacy:

"William Kristol. Wrong on Iraq. Wrong on every NYT editorial. Wrong for America."

I represent RAMBO (Republicans Against Mutt-comments By Obama), and we consider this a disgusting indication of the depths to which Obama will sink to denigrate dogs of mixed breeds. As Republicans, we believe in a higher level of discourse, and would NEVER stoop so low as to denigrate dogs. Or people.

Muslim, terrorist, socialist comments not withstanding. I

n any case we support the immediate start of impeachment proceedings against Obama, and are writing our representatives in Congress (Senators Hannity, Limbaugh, Malkin and Coulter) to make sure this critical issue stays in the forefront of the American media for months to come.

If only Bill Kristol were conservative, I'd understand his concerns. But he's a neocon and a l!ar so I don't believe a word out of him.

He and his fellow PNAC signatories are traitors to this country and should all be hanged.

I just don't get him! This article is not so bad, but sometimes I can't tell if he is being sarcastic. After seeing him on the Daily Show, i just shook my head in disbelief thinking this guy needs help.

You know what HuffPo...

We all know where to go to read Kristol. Personally, I come to HuffPo because I don't want to read Kristol. I don't want to know about O'Reilly, Hannity, or Coulter either. I suggest we leave these destructive cretins off of this website.

I guess the Consrevative PNAC vision of constant war and military dominance of the world doesn't have any effect on populartiy, unless the kids are nearing draft age even if it has already bankrupted the treasury.
Could it be that the US public is in Shock and AWE ?

If there was a draft, you would've has seen this noise stomped down years ago. THAT'S precisely the reason there ISN'T one. It's all fun and games until they hand you a rifle.

The ending of the article states that the prospective 2012 Repubs naming Palin and Jindal-- had better bring puppies home fot he kids; my thought is Palin had better take care of the 6 month old special needs baby and the other children before she tries bringing a dog into mix.

The Obama puppy will be an old dog and the majority of conservatives will gone by the time the repugs get another chance.

It's interesting how a simple response to a simple question is somehow broken down into a mass manipulation of the entire society. It's not possible, in Bill Kristol's mind, that it's an honest answer to a question. It has to be "used" for something else. What a sad and pathetic way to think.

As Stuart Smalley used to say "Denial (The Nile) is not just a river in Egypt." But here's a great idea, why not do Contract With America? Oh that's right. You did that GIMMICK 14 years ago which did nothing but contribute to the state we're in now. But at least the moderates are on to what the conservatives really are all about. Glad to know you're bankrupt with no one to absorb your losses. Go ahead and regale in your giddiness in the aftermath of your losses. That's really all you have left.

T: News Flash! The most intellectually accomplished president in history may not be mindless!

Q: “…Obama has the further advantage of inheriting a recession…”
T: I don’t give a damn about suffering Americans, and I'm here to suggest that Obama is just as cynically self-serving as I am.

Q: “…It’s good for conservatism that conservatives will have to develop refreshed ideas…”
T: I don’t give a damn about America. Go team!
