James Cromwell Hospitalized After Cycling Accident

LOS ANGELES — James Cromwell was injured in a fall from his bicycle over the weekend and was expected to be released from a hospital Monday, his publicist said. Cromwell, 68, suffered a broken collarbone and a partially deflated lung, according to a statement released Monday by publicist Nancy Seltzer.

She said Cromwell is a serious cyclist who was training on a Los Angeles-area canyon road Sunday when he fell from the bike.

Cromwell starred in the "Babe" movies and recently portrayed the first President Bush in "W." Seltzer said Cromwell would be well enough to complete his work schedule on the new TV drama "My Own Worst Enemy."

Hope he gets better, he's one of my favorites. My Own Worst Enemy isn't one of my favorites (although mentioning that probably led to my last comment being deleted. ) I thought I'd try posting again since even though from the article he seems to be fine, it's nice if the post count for articles about good guys in H'wood is higher.

Yup be careful as you get older my dad is in his 80's and he bikes too and had a fall that required hospitalization only just recently was he back joining fellow seniors in their senior bike riding club.

Is it just me or is the tone of internet postings getting more and more smug? A 68 year old man has a bad fall and punctures a lung and he gets criticized for playing bad guys on the big screen. And, oh yeah, just for the record, it takes a skilled actor to play a believable bad guy. And bad guys make good movies, great movies. LA Confidenial is one example. And Cuckoo's Nest without Nurse Ratched is probably just an okay movie.

He was such a good "bad" guy in LA Confidential that I REALLY don't like him.

I think that's actually a testament to just HOW GOOD an actor he is. Of course, I hope he recovers quickly...

He's a good character actor, however most of his recent roles have been relegated to the "sinister or miserable heavy" department. Guess you take what you can get to make money. Though I'd hate to be typecast like he has in recent years. I do hope he recovers well. I think there are some roles for him that may even win him an Oscar if the right script, director and circumstance allow.

You are so right about his role in "L.A. Confidential"--I couldn't believe that the lovable farmer in "Babe" was also the complete sleazoid in "L.A. Confidential"!! (But I'm biased--I still think "LAC" was robbed for Best Picture by "Titanic"!)
