Obama Presidential Car: Armored Cadillac In Testing

GM is rumored to be making the next presidential limo. A photo of the suspected car shows a tank-like Cadillac. More from The Boston Globe below the photo:

An analysis of unauthorized photographs taken while the car was being tested last summer on public roads suggests that the presidential ride will be a truck-based Cadillac. It will presumably replace the Cadillac that President Bush has used since 2005.

This new car will be a Caddy like no other. Photos by a spy photographer who hunts future models that haven't been publicly revealed for magazines and websites, provide clues about how specialized presidential transportation has become since the first White House fleet was ordered for William Howard Taft in 1909. Taft rode in a stock White steam car or a conventional Pierce-Arrow, but the next president will travel in a fortress-like vehicle that was mostly built from scratch.

Preliminary road testing has indicated problems with the steering (pulls to the left strongly)
and replacements are being considered for the French-made transmission, which while it is a six speed automatic, all the gears are in reverse. Windshield glass will be tinted a nice rose color and all rear view mirrors will be removed.

I don't understand why Obama doesn't cruise in a Hummer. They were originally built as COMBAT vehicles, and now the street versions are the essence of luxury inside... hmmm.... protection meets luxury, what a novel concept.

The Hummer was designed in the 1980s to go racing across the plains of Europe as part of a large scale conventional war.
