I Like ItI Don’t Like It

The word dating doesn't exist in Paris; they call it meeting because "date" is a code for flowers, dinner, goodnight kiss, etc. It's not spontaneous.

Find out what else we can learn from french women, including this nugget:

2. Age doesn't get in the way of their sex lives.

Through our 40s, we American women manage to arrange romps on a fairly regular basis. But the latest national statistics show that by our 50s, a third of us haven't had sex in the last year. By our 60s, nearly half have gone sexless in the previous year. Once we hit our 70s, most of us might as well hang up an "out of business" sign. (Needless to say, men fare much better.)....But not in France. Frenchwomen simply don't suffer from the same dramatic, post-40s slide into sexual obsolescence. Just 15 percent of Frenchwomen in their 50s and 27 percent in their 60s haven't had any sex in the past year, according to a 2004 national survey by France's Regional Health Observatory. Another national survey being released next month will report that cohabiting Frenchwomen over 50 are having more sex now than they did in the early 1990s.

Among the developed countries in the world, there is not one more puritanic than the US. I wonder if long-time dating then correlates well with high divorce rate.

Oh, God another of these articles?? What is it with the Huffington Post and french women?

I think in many European countries(even the UK) "dating" is a little more spontaneous and undefined. I don't really care. I like the whole dating culture of the United States. Different countries have different customs.

I find it evident that this fact is a consequence of American's puritanical outlook on sex. This is reflected in the fact that in America everything is sexualized but it's only ok as a means to dissatisfy the consumer to try to make them fill the void by purchasing more crap. We don't typically have topless beaches as a matter of course, and our relationship with sex is often disfunctional. Also contributing is the fact that Americans are by and large, consiged to getting fat as they age. Despite their rich diets, French women make no such assumption and it shows. Think Sophia Lauren vs. Roseann Barr (and that's not even a fair comparison because Sophia's got to have at least 30 years on Roseann). Men, being visually aroused, can be forgiven their lack of interest in their portly middle-aged wives. Additionally women in American seem to view sex as leverage to accomplish their ends, and as a way to reproduce, rather than an end in itself. As they age, and are more comfortable and have been married to their husband long enough to be assured a usurious settlement upon divorce, they can afford to be cavalier about these things because they no longer need him to accomplish their ends. Sex is a commodity here among lovers. Pathetic.

"Frenchwomen simply don't suffer from the same dramatic, post-40s slide into sexual obsolescence."

===

Too many middle aged American women have somehow been ruined sexually, even though they now have society's permission to be as sensual and sexual as they want to be.

Why?

It has something to do with losing their connection to the deep feminine along the sometimes rocky road of life.

Too bad.

Society's "permission" is not required. However, not everyone is still as interested in sex as they were in days gone by. That's not a sin or a crime or an aberration. A more "take it or leave it" attitude can be liberating.

I agree with you that a take it or leave it attitude is a good thing - as long as it's the REAL thing.

But that's not what this is about. It's more a FOX AND GRAPES thing, if you remember old Aesop.

There are a small number of people who really do have low libido. But most of us aren't like that, and studies seem to show that for women, libido actually increases in middle age. Whether that's a function of biology or sociology or both I don't know.

But if libido is increasing, and sexual opportunites are (seemingly) decreasing - that's not a good thing, is it?

The question is...how come?

Bueller? Bueller? Anyone?

Scroll down while the video plays. Don't watch it, just listen. Can you tell when the American woman speaks? Me too. And that explains everything.

Watching without listening is quite telling to! What IS she on?

Ya know, I'm a reasonably attractive woman in my 50s and I have dated 8 men this year from once to six months (yes, there was overlap) and *none* of them have wanted to have sex. WTF is wrong with American men?

Good question MissElaineous. I'd like to blame it on the media giving men an unrealistic view of what is beautiful and/or sexy but that is too feeble and too easy an explanation. I am a 50 yo man and have probably dated about the same number of women as you have men over the past year and with similar time spans (my longest was 4 months). I had sex with 4 of them. All 4 loved it as did I. Were they goddesses? No, but they were all very sexy and very comfortable women to be with. Either you have had bad luck or more men are more messed up than I thought.

Sophieozz, totally agree. But its not just the women. American men are pretty ridiculous too. Let's just say this: there is something seriously defective about the stereotypical American.

Notice the French women speaking like reasonable, confident, self-contained women versus the insane-acting, shrieking, eye-rolling American woman. Who would you rather emulate?

You can just see the French women cringe whenever this host opens her mouth.
