I Like ItI Don’t Like It

There are very few nights where you would see Sen. Hillary Clinton, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, and Tyra Banks all in one room. But on Monday night, some of the world's most influential women were honored during Glamour's 19th annual Women of the Year awards. It was a night filled with glammed up politicians, media moguls, celebrities, and activists honoring those who have made unparalleled contributions to society, politics, science, and so much more. The ten women Glamour Magazine has honored this year include Hillary Clinton, Condoleezza Rice, Tyra Banks, Nicole Kidman, CEO of the luxury brand Chanel Maureen Chiquet, Misty May-Treanor, Kerri Walsh, Nujood Ali, Kara Walker, and Jane Goodall. Below are some snapshots of Monday's glamorous night.

Condi Rice should be shunned for all the harm she has done in the middle east. She bears tremendous responsibility for many young lives, lost with her WH wars. It is just awful that she was even allowed on the same stage as Jane. Goodall.

I absolutely agree. This is what I was going to post, too. Why should Rice get a free pass? She is guilty. She sat in a room with Rumsfeld and Cheney, and CHOSE specific forms of torture for detainees. WTF?

We have to start making some distinctions. I am appalled by Glamour's choice! It shows a complete lack of regard for our troops, for prisoners illegally detained by the government, and for the people of this country who have lived through eight years of hateful leaders like Cheney, Rumsfeld, Bush, and Rice.

I am disgusted by the people who sponsored this event.

Isn't this sexist?

I don't understand what Jane Goodall has to do with glamor. She is a substantive person who has been working with primates all her life. I value her work - she is a scientist.

Isn't this sexist? Aren't women perpetuating a double standard, they fume about?

Do these women want to be taken seriously as leaders on merit, or do the want to be fashion divas?

Both?

It is only sexist when they are criticiized for their appearence, not when they are complemented?

very confusing.

Katie, Condi and Hillary? Add Sarah and Nancy Pelosi and wouldn't you have a paradet of the highest profile, most powerful, and incompetent women leaders in the nation? Haven't they all taken on major roles of influence and leadership and failed?

Boy do you tell the truth. With regard to Hillary Clinton in particular, she is now dressing the way she is because her act is up. She no longer has to act like a man. Feminist? There's nothing feminine about it.

Well, all these women look splendid. All EXCEPT Kara Walker wearing FUR! UGH! I am always disappointed by the lack of compassion this "fashion" choice represents. I think that is her character though. Then when you look at Jane Goodall- that is a beautiful human through and through. Jane is my hero.

I hope this phase Hillary is going through fades fast. I like her just the way she is. She does not have to go Vogue for us to love her more. She ran for the Highest position the gov't has to offer . No one can take this away from her. Not ever. I admire her just the way she is.

Hillary IS scary, all that incompetence rolled up in all that entitlement and arrogance. Thank you, Barack Obama.

You go girlfriend!! After eight years of lying, cheating, warring, trampling the constitution, breaking as many laws as possible, an obstructing justice, a girl deserves to kick it!

As a woman, it looks bad for women to be giving an award to Condi the war criminal. Shame on Glamour.

My favorite is Jane Goodall. I LOVE how she shows up at a Glamour event where she's a primary award recipient without makeup. Dr. Goodall has done more for African wildlife, and for understanding the human-primate connection, than anyone before or since. She's truly original, highly accomplished, and not about to be pressured into dressing as something she's not by anyone. Dr. Goodall lives mostly on an intellectual plane and shows that there are ways for women to succeed and be powerful other than by dressing to the hilt and using sex appeal. LOVE IT!

Of course I must delve into a bit of shallowness by saying that Condi looks awesome, and that the ditching of the power helmet for this glam, highly-made-up look puts her in a more favorable light (to me at least) than she would be otherwise. I dislike her politics and utterly hate those of her administrator, but damn, she does look good! Goes to show you that appearance matters to us visually-oriented primates, like it or not. I wonder what Dr. Goodall would have to say about this?

Lastly, Hillary looks fine, although the dress' style and color don't suit her nearly as well as something more pastel might. She has fairly wide, big-boned features and this thick, heavy dress looks clunky on her. A little too Salem Witch Trials for me. But I'm happy she was honored for her accomplishments.

Now, back to more important, save-the-world matters....

I know it's just me but, Soledad looks like Katie Couric's Cuban sister...

The hairstyle is a major step up for Condi. Her hair is getting the same attention as her body. She's looks to be in great shape. Now to work on her soul.

Go Jane, Go!

Bloomberg is a pair of spectacles away from being Mitch McConnell.
