Joy

Tuesday on "The View" Joy Behar and Elisabeth Hasselbeck sparred over how to recognize Veterans Day. Behar began the show by reading facts about the war, over 4,000 American soldiers dead, the immense cost, etc.

Elisabeth was not happy and round one broke out, with Elisabeth forcefully telling Joy, "Do not complain about the war today."

Moderator Whoopi Goldberg briefly interjected, but was overpowered by Joy and Elisabeth. Elisabeth got angrier insisting, "It is not our day to gripe about the cost" while Joy argued, "We are honoring them by discussing this war."

Elisabeth then threw out her trump card, saying she knew people fighting in the war and knew they would not want the ladies talking war cost. Then, before Joy could respond, Whoopi cut the whole thing off for good, "We're moving on!"

Elisabeth is a rebel without a cause. She argues for the sake of arguing.
She is the least intelligent public figure today.

I am sure that they will soon be cutting her loose from the show.

My only solace is knowing that REPUBLICAN IDIOTS like Hasslebeck are paying all of my federal taxes each year, since 2005. Actually, everyone is paying, so perhaps if you WANT my tax dollars, you will WANT equality for all of us Americans. No? Then keep paying the IRS - we stopped!

It's really a simple equation here - No Taxation Without Equality.

Hasselbeck is a mean-spirited young woman with a singular lack of compassion for anyone but her own kind -- right-wing ideologues. They should kick her off this show; she pollutes it daily.

That's Elizabeth ...Palin clone. If it isn't an attack on Obama, gay's, life style's, that do not meet her moral compass, she has nothing to say.

I wonder if there is a study on Republicans, Narcissism, and Religion?

She is exactly the model of the skinny blond bimbo that Republicans cloned in their efforts to show how cool they were over the last decade.

Of Course we have to remember the qualifications of Hasslebeck to get on this show. She had to be a contestant on "Surviver" and eat a can of worms! What sacrafice!

It was the most inspiring moment I have had here in Iraq. I wanted you to
know what kind of soldiers are serving you here. Remember them as they fight
for you! Pass this along as a reminder to others to be ever in prayer for
all our soldiers serving us here at home and abroad. For many have already
paid the ultimate price....

From a Chaplain in Iraq:

All was going as planned until about three-quarters of the way through The
National Anthem the music stopped. Now, what would happen if this occurred
with 1,000 18-22 year-olds back in the States? I imagine there would be
hoots, catcalls, laughter, a few rude comments; and everyone would sit down
and call for a movie. Of course, that is, if they had stood for the National
Anthem in the first place.
Here, the 1,000 soldiers continued to stand at attention, eyes fixed
forward. The music began again. The soldiers continued to quietly stand at
attention. And again, at the same point, the music stopped. What would you
expect to happen? Even here I would imagine laughter, as everyone finally
sat down and expected the movie to start. But here, you could have heard a
pin drop. Every soldier continued to stand at attention. Suddenly there was
a lone voice, then a dozen, and quickly the room was filled with the voices
of a thousand soldiers, finishing where the recording left off: "And the
rockets red glare, The bombs bursting in air, Gave proof through the night
That our flag was still there. Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet
wave, O'er the land of the free And the home of the brave

It seems more and more like being a soldier trumps being an American. Their service should be honored and respected. I reject patronizing platitudes ...

"Now, what would happen if this occurred with 1,000 18-22 year-olds back in the States?"

I would say it would depend on how they are brought up and educated. Military discpline is honorable but I would say morality and discpline is not necessarily the providence of the military.

How true. There are many patriots who are not in the military.

Aren't her fifteen minutes of fame over yet? I have yet to figure out why she is on the show other than to be the one who continuously utters idiocy so that the others can show her her limited mental faculties. I see now her affinity for Sarah Palin. Birds of a feather.

The View would be a non entity without Elisabeth. Regardless of what you think about her, have 4 women sitting around agreeing with each other does not drive ratings.

But she is absolutley right on this one. Behar and the ultra-lib gang have every episode other than this day to beat up on why this is the wrong war and let's get the hell out. Veterans day is a day to remember, reflect, and appreciate our military people

Obama is in ... the change is coming ... no need to continue the "I hate Bush" chants at this point. Embrace what is coming. If Obama doesn't drive change in the war, then I'm sure that the View gals will embrace it as well!

Liz,

Quit the show, buy a stupid pink jersey, and root for your quarterback husband!

Maybe you can bring him luck like Jessica Simpson did for her man!

If you are saying that reporting on the huge waste of money somehow demeans the soldiers than your

confidence in why we are there must be very weak.

End the war now!

Maybe if Elizabeth was LISTENING she wouldnt have accused Joy of "griping" about the cost of the war and also not-so-subtly hinting that Joy was being disrespectful to the Iraq veterans. But that is such a Republican characteristic - isolate your words and put a spin on them, and accuse you of something that you havent even done.
Even if having her on the show is "good for tv because of her alternative point of view", should she really be allowed a platform to preach her nonsense?
sheesh.

I'm sick and tired of people like Elisabeth and Palin saying that soldiers are "fighting for our right to free speech"...has anyone ever seriously thought about what that statement means? When, exactly, were Iraq or Afghanistan threatening our right to free speech? If that were the case, we should be mad as hell with our government, assuming they would allow our free speech to be taken away. It's not a foreign country problem, it's a United States government/Supreme Court problem...has nothing to do with the military.

I had the same thought. I find the statement ludicrous if not ridiculous. The last war we fought that would have even remotely been about preserving OUR freedoms was WWII. All the rest, including Iraq, have been political.

You are both missing the point. The soldier, sailor, marine does not choose the war. They fight it. Although it may be a broad reach to say they are fighting for our rights in a specific war, that is exactly what they are doing. Not just in the war zone, but everywhere they serve.
So give them a break.

My objection to Elisabeth is that she just spews what she hears on Rush and Sean's shows and never brings her own thought to bare on things. And like Palin she seems to abhor taking a moment and thinking a bit about what others are saying and what she is about to say. Both of these women are excellent examples not so much of people with differing points of view from those on the left but of what framtic inanity comes out of the mouth of anyone who has a disdain for thinking more deeply about something. I wouldn't mind them as much if I thought they really took the time to substantiate their ideas. This is the problen with any fundamentalist view, fundamentalists on either side of an issue do not actually think about their points of view so much as they just want others to agree with their half baked ideas and become indignant when they are asked to go further in their thinking..

Elisabeth has never had an original thought in her life. Someone on that show needs to give her a serious smackdown.

Rosie O'Donnell gave her a serious smackdown. And it was over the same issue, the war.

How do you honour veterans if you don't acknowledge their sacrifice? It's Veterans Day, for goodness sake, not "Let's-celebrate-our-glorious-war Day".

That's right, it's not about war, but about those that died, foremost, and those lucky enough to make it out alive. There is little that can be done for the dead. Life is for the living, and Veteran's Day is the perfect day to bring light to their plight. Such a silly woman this Lizzie.
