I Like ItI Don’t Like It
Laura Bush

President Bush's plans to pen a memoir of his time in office may have been curtailed, but he's not going to be able to take comfort in the fact that a down economy has the publishing world bearish on presidential remembrances anymore. Because while he can't even get wingnut welfare imprint Regnery Publishing to take his phone calls, his wife is setting up a deal for her own book that looks like a towering pile of dollar bills:

LAURA Bush is lining up a multimillion-dollar deal to write her memoirs - but the first lady's lame-duck hubby may have to wait years before cashing in on a tell-all about his two troubled terms as president.

"Laura is interviewing publishers who are bidding on her memoirs," one biographer told Page Six. "The publishers are coming to the White House to meet with her and discuss the book."

Literary agent Mort Janklow put things in perspective over at Page Six, saying that, "The wives of presidents generally write books that have a greater public interest. Wives usually write from a personal point of view -- instead of talking about government policy, they talk about when the dog came to the White House and had to be paper-trained." Somehow, I think that the greater fascination in a Laura memoir stems from a desire to draw comparisons between the real story and the flight of imagination penned by Curtis Sittenfeld, whose An American Wife exposes her conscience.

Most industry observers think that President Bush should wait about five years before delivering his memoir, tentatively titled A Staggering Stagger of Staggering Staggering.

Small wonder. If you buy George's memoirs, you also have to buy crayons.

He could work out a nice cross-promotional thing with Crayola and Crest toothpaste.

The book should have an advisory printed on the cover - May be hazardous to your mental health and sanity.

Include some special advice for George:
If you eat the crayons - brush your teeth.

I'm hoping that Laura comes out with "I was an undercover Democrat" and includes names and dates and secret tape recordings of everything needed to put W and his buddies in jail. Now that would be a best seller!

I've heard it rumored that Laura's book will be entitled, "My Pet Dolt"

Well, good on Laura, though this makes a hilarious read in comparison to G.W's troubles for his own book deal.

I won't be reading hers.

Blood is on her hands. She is not one bit better than her husband.

Please, enlighten us why it does not have any merit?

I have long believed Laura has just as much blood on her as her husband.

How about the incident where she ran over her ex-boyfriend with her car, when she was 19? He died.

It wasn't an intentional homicide, but most people who do that would have gotten at least a few years for involuntary manslaughter.

Maybe if she were sentenced for that, she would never have married Dubya... and the rest of this mess wouldn't have happened.

Unless George is going to confess to authorizing torture, Laura probably has more interesting things to say.

From that picture the one thing Laura does not need is another face lift, unless she hopes for a part in the next Batman movie!

The memoirs of a man famous for lacking the capacity for self-reflection can't be worth much.

The reason she is doing better than George, is she can read and write, on the other hand color books don't fetch to much money now of days.

Thank you for that! I could not agree more! Mrs. Bush has always conducted herself with great dignity and she is a credit to the title of First Lady.

Please, do not go down the road of "two wrongs make a right." Consider the fact that these comments are NOT representative of the whole. I am a liberal and I am rightfully disappointed and angered to read these sniping, hateful, petty comments about a fair-minded and kind First Lady. Michelle Obama is also a kind-hearted First Lady yet I've read such awful rumors (propagated by Rush Limbaugh and his ilk) that have demonized her by many on the Right. People need to wake up -- THIS is politics at its worst. Attacking the families of politicians is beyond the pale. Until they make policy that directly affects your life or directly insult you, it is reasonable and fair to respect their privacy.

Your "baby momma" comment is not only insulting but -- you well know -- it is r.acist. Again, I ask you to please try to stay above this type of discourse, no matter how wrong other people's comments may be.

Because the answer when an innocent person is attacked is to attack another innocent person! Brilliant!

Laura Bush defended Michelle Obama against the ridiculous attacks promulgated by partisan noodlebrains. She really let the air out of Cindy "I'VE always loved my country" McCain's thirteen sets of tires. The triumph of class over crass.
