Lindsay Lohan is happy Barack Obama got elected after campaigning for him this year. But, she referred to the President-Elect with a mumbled adjective at the beginning of an interview with Access Hollywood's Maria Menounos that some say is offensive. Does she say "good" or "colored?"

"It's an amazing feeling. It's our first [mumble] president."

Perez
and Defamer think she said "colored."

She is from a different time and generation. Clearly as an Obama supporter she was not trying to insult him.

What...was she born in the 50's??? She is 22 years old. My wife's grandma says "colored" because she IS from a different time and generation.
Your excuse is just to protect an Obama supporter. Nice try, but lame excuse.

I agree with your statement. It's typed on my birth certificate and you are right--the term is from a different time and generation. I don't know anyone other than Lindsay using that term in this day and age (at least in a public setting).

I think she said Colored, but she was too ignorant to know that she was offensive.

first of all, i am really not convinced that she says "colored". It doesn't sound like either "colored" or "good" to me, but if I had to go with one I would say she said "good".

second of all, i don't understand the outrage. it may be true that the term "colored" is disrespectful and that it should not be used. however, she *clearly* meant no disrespect. therefore, it seems to me the only appropriate reactions are to feel sadness and to *educate*. if she didn't know that the term was unacceptable, then it makes no sense to get outraged.

(i myself would never use the term "colored" but i must admit i did not know how fraught that term was. i would hope that innocent ignorance could be given a pass.)

I couldn't discern what she said, but it didn't sound colored to be, so I would choose 'good' too.

Give me a break... if she did say this -- she lives in AMERICA!

Tell it to the NAACP then....

So she made the mistake of calling him colored, instead of African American. Perhaps she used that old term because she meant to acknowledge the fact that his mother is a white woman. Tiger Woods referred to himself as "Cablinasian" to acknowledge his caucasian, black, indian and asian roots.

I can't believe people are making anything of this. As someone above mentioned she probably meant
"first person of color" which is often used. If she was not an Obama supporter, I can see why one might take it a different way.

Lindsay by my point of view is still very young and being politically involved by the young used to be rare until this election. GIVE HER A BREAK!

How about we give her a break from even being a celebrity? At least until she actually accomplishes something in her adult life?

This is a child actor who can't make the transition to adult actor. Lots of child actors find themselves in this position. I hope she can find a new career in some other line of work. Sorry Lindsay but Hollywood does not need you any more. Maybe it's time to go to a real school not the studio play school you attended. In other words "Get an education" and go find a real job.

Um...coming from someone who joined HuffPo in August, has made a total of three comments here, including this one, and they have ALL been about Lindsay Lohan.

Any chance you're on a PR firm payroll? Cause if not, your advice might apply...elsewhere.

Complete non-story.

The real question is why can't i recognize this person anymore? Talk about post-teenage angst.

I HAVE TO CUT LOHAN some slack on this one, she is not the sharpest knife in the kitchen. Clearly she was searching for the correct word to use!

Oh, come on! Her generation should not have even been exposed to that term, except as a history lesson on how bad things used to be. If she said it so easily, it's part of her vocabulary. Can we just stop caring about these uneducated pop-tarts?

Not sexy, not smart, not sober. enough, already.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 01:05 AM on 11/13/2008

I agree with you. That term has not been used by anyone over 40. So surely her generation should not be using it.

I have heard people refer to themselves as "people of color," so maybe that is what Lohan was trying to say. I think the comment from Ms. Simms of the NAACP probably sums it up (from a commenter below) when she says it is outdated, but not offensive. I used to think it would be offensive until I kept seeing bumper stickers that say "des colores" (of color).

it's really intersting to see how there are some who feel that the word "colored" is offensive because of thje connotation that it held not many years ago (i.e. the signs saying to no colored people allowed, etc) while others are inthis mindset of moving forward and saying that was then, this is now and there is too much diversity these days to be offended by the word "colored". Will the "n-word" be the next word on the list of connotations to be aboloished?

P.S. this is a serious question. I'm not being sarcastic. What do you think?

P.P.S. I feel that Lohan could have used a better word. Who says "colored"?...hahahaha.

She does say colored. This isn't Madlibs. "It's our first______president." what? it is our first African-American president. There are not many other words that it could be confused with. I clearly hear her say colored. Kinda F'ed up i suppose, but the girl means well. On another note, she definately looks strung out as all hell. Like Heroin or Crack strung out...not just the booze....looks like she's been chasing the dragon.

As a black person, I have to ask - Why is it not acceptable to say, "colored person," but it IS acceptable to say, "person of color?" This is an example of political correctness being taken too far. Don't forget what the "C" in NAACP stands for.

The NAACP was created when blacks were considered colored. That name will never change. It's 2008 and blacks call themselves African Americans, not "colored". It's offensive because African Americans/blacks do not identify with being called "Colored". I'm 37 years old and do not call myself Colored.

Yet young blacks revel in using the "N-word" when referring to one another but don't find that offensive... strange.

I am 40yrs old and would rather be called Black, or Coloured, rather than African-American. To me the term African-American is an attempt to do what someone of Italian descent is doing my calling themselves Italian-American, but as Sarah Palin just found out African is a Continent, not a country. If all else fails, just call me by my name.

it doesn't sound like she said colored at all... sounds like "ghuul"... listen to what she says before that sentence, and she stumbles a lot so it just sounds like she couldnt coherently form her thought, and mumbled a random word. The whole interview she seems really unprofessional and annoyed to be there.
