Lohan

Lindsay Lohan is happy Barack Obama got elected after campaigning for him this year. But, she referred to the President-Elect with a mumbled adjective at the beginning of an interview with Access Hollywood's Maria Menounos that some say is offensive. Does she say "good" or "colored?"

"It's an amazing feeling. It's our first [mumble] president."

Perez
and Defamer think she said "colored."

I'm colored, and I really don't care whether she said color or not. The media is already trying to undermine Obama and he hasn't even been sworn in yet. Supportes beware

I couldn't hear WTF she said.

I think its odd that she said that though. I normally just give the elderly a pass on that but not someone in their 20's.

so let me draw a conclusion here:

number one, we are overwhelmingly not offended by the use of the word "colored".

number two, we all wonder why the press has to write about such incidents as if it were some violation of their pc laws.

There was a time that colored was the word to use. Everything else was politically incorrect.

I am African American and if you think about it, he is a man of color. Black and White sounds colored to me. African American, Black, Colored are not offensive to me, it's that ni**er that bothers; that's the one that may get someone hurt. Let's get over this one.

Okay.....I'm just going to be the first to stick my neck out here and simply say it. I'm an African American woman and the whole distinction between proper nomenclature for what to call people has escaped me.

I truly believe that a lot of these distinctions may be generational. For my parents, who were born in the 1940's in Louisiana, they didn't have a choice. Both of their birth certificates clearly list their ethnicity as "colored", and I feel that since they were addressed as such for so long that they don't have a huge issue with it. My sister on the other hand, who is a product of the late 1960's, has a very different take on it and finds it highly offensive. And the teens and young adults of today call each other things that I can't even PRINT.....it's just a strange phenomenon.

And....it really does cut both ways. Personally, I think it is equally unfair to call someone "Caucasian", or "Mexican", or "Asian" because it seems to give permission for others to diminish the palette of what makes you "you". It just seems like a no win situation all around.

Being a white woman I can say the whole thing baffles me but I try and be respectful, only using african-american or black. I often wonder why the word 'white' is used in applications and such when I feel the more appropriate would be 'caucasian'. I think it's not the labels themselves so much but the meaning and power we place on those labels. Of course the word 'n*gg#r' is a label that needs no further meaning. It is offensive and has never had an ambiguous meaning.

Here in Baltimore, White and Black kids call each other and themselves the "N" word as a term of endearment and nobody bats an eyelash!

Obama is not the first black or colored president. HE IS THE FIRST BI-RACIAL PRESIDENT. AFTER ALL HE IS HALF WHITE.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 03:36 AM on 11/12/2008

This is true. Though Barack himself refers to himself as 'a black man of mixed heritage'. That's a quote from 'The Audacity of Hope'.

I am biracial. An interesting phenomenon happens depending where I am geographically. When I am here 95% of people consider me black when they see me. Some people can't tell what I am. When I am in Africa, they consider me white.

He has the right to self identify.

He identifies himself as a black man.

I concur. Every "mixed race" person has a right to self-identify, regardless of how some may see him or her.

Yep. But he is still half White! Almost all A.A.s are "blended" with another ethnicity, yet we call ourselves Black. My son-in-law's father is White and he calls himself Black. My girl friend's father is White, mom is bi-racial, she calls herself Black. Her half, uh 3/4? Black kids call her White. Maybe we should just call ourselves American and identify by eye color or something. It sure would be easier. That would make me very dark Brown!

That is your personal opinion but I am curious to see how would you call all the african-american who have whi...ooops sorry caucasian blood(by force or else) and are not POTUS?

What your comment implies is that he is beyond black or white as if there is something wrong being
white or black, I have doubts it is the way forward to look at people's race. Besides, I am not bothered
by therm "black", I am only bothered by the embarasse undertone behind this word as if being black is something odd...

I grew up saying they are Colored People, It was not meant to be slanderous, They have a color about them it is Black.

I know the N word was Bad because Mother use to wash our mouths out with soap if we said it!!!
OmG That word was the Worst! Comet sanitizer and zest Bath Soap went into our Mouths with a tooth brush so we could get every bit of the Filth out of our Mouth & off our teeth and off our tongues!!
My Mother even Brushed the neighborhood kids mouths with that Stuff if they said that word!!...lol

The term colored is from another time, and sorry to say, but the only people who use it now are whites. It's just a polite way of saying the n word...

I have no opinion on Lohan's use of the word "colored," but it does beg the question, "will the NAACP change its name?"

I'd guess she wanted to say "just the right thing" and go with "person of color" and got halfway into the sentence when she realized "our first person of color president" was a mess ...mumbled and bailed. She said "colored".

What's more scandalous is that she can't bring herself to say Prop 8 was wrong and unfair.

I was referring to this video with a national audience. She is asked directly and says everybody has their own opinion, won't get into it.
