WASILLA, Alaska — Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin says she wouldn't hesitate to run for the presidency in four years if it's God's will, even though she never thought Campaign 2008 would be "as brutal a ride as it turned out to be."

In a series of interviews in the wake of last Tuesday's elections, Palin said she had no problem with Republican presidential nominee John McCain, but that she resents rumors she said were spread about her and her family by the Arizona Republican's aides. She emphatically denied that she was a drag on the GOP ticket.

"I think the economic collapse had a heckuva lot more to do with the campaign's collapse than me personally," the governor said in an interview broadcast Tuesday on NBC's "Today" show.

Palin also said "There were a lot of times I wanted to shout out, 'Hey, wait a minute, it's not true.' It's pretty brutal."

Nevertheless, the relatively obscure governor of Alaska, whose selection for the ticket by McCain last August brought excitement _ and controversy _ to the 2008 campaign, said she would be eager to do it all again under the right circumstances.

"I'm like, OK, God, if there is an open door for me somewhere, this is what I always pray, I'm like, don't let me miss the open door," Palin said in an interview with Fox News on Monday. "And if there is an open door in '12 or four years later, and if it is something that is going to be good for my family, for my state, for my nation, an opportunity for me, then I'll plow through that door."

In the wide-ranging interview, Palin said she neither wanted nor asked for the $150,000-plus wardrobe the Republican Party bankrolled, and thought the issue was an odd one at the end of the campaign, considering "what is going on in the world today."

"I did not order the clothes. Did not ask for the clothes," Palin said. "I would have been happy to have worn my own clothes from Day One. But that is kind of an odd issue, an odd campaign issue as things were wrapping up there as to who ordered what and who demanded what."

"It's amazing that we did as well as we did," the governor said of the election in a separate interview with the Anchorage Daily News.

"I think the Republican ticket represented too much of the status quo, too much of what had gone on in these last eight years, that Americans were kind of shaking their heads like going, wait a minute, how did we run up a $10 trillion debt in a Republican administration? How have there been blunders with war strategy under a Republican administration? If we're talking change, we want to get far away from what it was that the present administration represented and that is to a great degree what the Republican Party at the time had been representing," Palin said in a story published Sunday.

Palin has scheduled a series of national interviews this week with Fox, NBC's "Today" show and CNN. She also plans to attend the Republican Governors Association conference in Florida this week.

Palin has been mentioned as a possible presidential candidate in 2012. She also could seek re-election in 2010 or challenge Sen. Lisa Murkowski. Still uncertain is the fate of Sen. Ted Stevens, who is leading in his bid for another term but could be ousted by the Senate for his conviction on seven felony counts of failing to report more than $250,000 in gifts, mostly renovations on his home. If Stevens loses his seat, Palin could run for it in a special election.

Palin and McCain's campaign faced a storm of criticism over the tens of thousands of dollars spent at such high-end stores as Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus to dress the nominee. Republican National Committee lawyers are still trying to determine exactly what clothing was bought for Palin, what was returned and what has become of the rest.

My fear is that Pres. Obama isn't going to be "juicy" enough for the MSM, so they are going to continue to cover Palin. Palin is riding on everyone's curiosity of her "spilling the beans" about what went on in the campaign. I'm hoping, once this stuff goes through the circuit, there won't be any further reason to keep talking to her. I mean, look at what they are asking about: What about those clothes? What about 2012? Were you and McCain at each other's throats? Did you REALLY greet staff in a towel?

These interviews should be on the Hollywood entertainment shows- NOT the news. Cover our pres-elect to see what he's doing to move our country forward.

It's nice to think that Palin might become this year's Macarena - but I have a feeling that she will likely be the new GOP poster doll. We will be able to forget her for four years, but she will return. New glasses, new hairdo, new look, but same old insane ideas and American Gothic creepiness. The GOP base will always adore that.

There were smears from both sides....so people need to stop making it a PARTISAN campaign.

Why is the media still hounding her. Seems like a smear campaign for the future.

Anyway, regarding the trillions of dollars debt....

How much of that money spent on the military would have been paid to them even if there
hadn't been a war.....Most of them get benefits and pay from the Gov't. if we are in a war or not.

Is this included in the "BIG DEBT" or omitted on purpose so it sounds like Iraq and Afghanistan
were responsible for all the money spent.

While someone is counting, I wonder if they subtracted the cost that would have been for
the military, (that is stationed in many other places) from that 10 trillion debt they keep talking about.

No. It wasn't a smear campaign on both sides. Palin and McCain smeared Obama. Obama did not smear either of them so stop saying it.

Didn't he keep calling J. McCain ....Bush.....and blaming him for voting with him most of the time.....
Didn't he make fun of his age.

Wasn't Palin made into a joke about lipstick on a pig....

We tend to hear only what we want to hear....As I said, both sides did their share
of smearing....Now it is time for all involved to act like nothing negative happened.

I can assure you as a retired military man, 10bil a month is NOT spent on military pay and benefits. You might want to come with a different analogy, because this one lacks merit.

If you read what I said, no, 10 bil a month is not spent of the military.

I said in peace time, the military still gets paid and was this amount subtracted
from the total they are referring to.

Hmm...maybe you should ask Sarah why she's quoting that 10 trillion dollar debt number, she sounds pretty confident with those figures, and as the Republicans keep saying, she is more qualified and smarter than any Democrat.

And the media 'hounding' her??? She's not running anymore and doesn't have to do ANY interviews! She's CHOOSING to do these interviews, which is pretty ironic considering she didn't want to do ANY main-stream interviews when she was running. (oh, oh yeah, Couric and Gibson....pfft)

Sounds like she is taking interviews because the media has her on the defensive.
People won't stop dissing her so what do you expect her to do.
This is also keeping her in the news. She won't stay as Governor forever....
She might even end up as Senator of Alaska.....So don't sound too happy.

Anyway, she was told not to take the interviews during the campaign wasn't she.....

And Couric and Gibson with their "gotcha" comments, no wonder.
She has been in the limelight ever since she started the campaign.
None of the other candidates were scrutinized the way she was from day one.

I don't understand what positive purpose it can possibly serve to continue talking to or about Ms Palin. The election was last week. She is yesterday's news, not today's headlines. She served her purpose well during the those last few weeks prior to Nov. 4.

I'm very grateful to her for every example she gave us of her lack of preparedness for the VP position. She helped sigificantly in getting Senator Obama elected. Now the media needs to carefully archive each and every negative tidbit they have about her.

If in the future she thinks she sees God opening a national political door for her I expect the media to slam it shut with all the information they have before she can say "yippie, another free wardrobe".

To those who are still giving her air and ink time, our country is fragile. We know the racists are still out there, as well as the radical right wing religious leaders. Ms Palin worked hard to fuel those hatreds and fears. She did nothing fuel our country's healing process.

Please devote your time to focusing on positive ways to unite all the American people in supporting President Elect Obama so we can truly have the UNITED State of America.

It appears that she's oblivious to the non-stop attacks and smears that came from her campaign and her own mouth in regards to 0bama. I don't know where she gets the gall to complain about people tarnishing her reputation when she said the terrible things she did on the campaign trail. If she had campaigned on the issues and this happened to her, I'd feel bad. As it is? No. I don't feel any sympathy toward her at all. The bully is getting bullied by the campaign she once did they bullying for. Karma, Gov. ... Karma.

I just read this a few minutes ago in the NY Times:

But she had a kind word for President-elect Barack Obama, who she said called her during the campaign to wish her luck. “He was cool,” Ms. Palin said, with almost a giggle. “He said, ‘good luck, but not that much luck.’”

So, Obama was nice to her and according to her Obama is cool. Then she has people at her rallies worked up about an inconsequential association and screaming things like, "Traitor!" about Obama? Wtf?

What the hell is Plain doing? A week straight of he said she said, clothes, and yip-yap. does she have a state to run instead of all this "gossip". Not a word about actual policy though.

I knew this would happen. She an attention junkie now and cant get out of the lime-light. I knew it. They created a monster.

You think after all this attention she is going to be able to go back to sleepy little mundane existance in Alaska?

Thanks John McCain. Thanks.

Far more dangerous than Palin is Mitt Romney. My feeling is, it was him who was ultimately behind the leaks to the press about Palin's dimwittedness. Sarah's shortcomings are on display for all to see, but Romney is like a snake who hides things much better. None of the other GOP candidates, including McC and Huckabee, liked him -- and for a reason. Notice he didn't even campaign for Mac until it was completely clear the guy was going to lose the race.

He's the one we have to really watch out for in 2012
