CNET:

There have been layoffs at Current Media, the cable network co-founded by former U.S. Vice President Al Gore.

A statement from Current put the number of layoffs at about 60 positions, with 30 more to be refilled, the company said in a statement. That's less of a hard hit than the 20 percent cuts that a source close to Current hinted to CNET News on Tuesday. The statement read: "Approximately 60 positions have been eliminated in the company's three U.S. offices, and approximately 30 new positions created," the statement read. "Many of those whose positions were eliminated have been placed in the new positions. Current will have approximately 410 employees (after these staffing adjustments)."

Times are tough. Even for Nobelists who won because of an iffy powerpoint presentation. I would have given him a B+ for his presentation, but a Nobel? Anyway, he is fighting for my cause and I applaud that.

The problem with CurrentTv has been that they splashed too soon - they weren't ready - and then never had another spash, when they were actually doing something. Immediately after hearing of their launch, I tried to be a viewer, but they had ZERO content yet, they were merely in the planning stages. I never remembered to go back - and I guess I'm not alone!

Lesson for Al and company: Give us some media splash to remind us you are out there and tell us where to find you and what you are offering! BASIC advertising...

It's a basic business concept: Don't start advertising until you have something to advertise.

It isn't the first time Liberals have made a mistake like this, remember Air America? They put all their resources into acquiring stations, rather than focusing on content.

It's the reason why we need separation of Business and State.

I never heard of it. Sorry.

Well it looks like thing aren't so rosy over at Current TV.

Apparently, the Marketplace hasn't been as gracious to Al Gore as the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. Viewers are not rewarded like an Emmy, they have to be earned, and Gore hasn't quite figured out how to do that.

Remember this, when he starts talking about the Economic Prosperity that will result from a Green Economy. He might talk real purdy, but he doesn't have a clue about how business really works.

BTW--Gore's business partner is no business slouch. You should do your research before you start slinging mud.

Oh, he's great at getting government money, and investing in things that become profitable after certain legislation is rammed through. Most lifetime Government employees are really good at that sort of thing. Very few Senators have retired unwealthy.

But he doesn't have a clue on how to run a business.

The concept of a platform for citizen journalism is an exciting and very viable concept. Current TV is a cutting edge channel that is ahead of its time, and as such will obviously feel some business corrections, especially in this period of reaganomic meltdown. That is no real surprise, nor is the mindless drivel of the republic party tro//s exhibited here, on whom the importance of Gore's vision is lost.

"Current TV is a cutting edge channel that is ahead of its time"

No, it's just the cable version of YouTube.

If Al Gore knew anything about the Internets, he wouldn't have even bothered creating it.

Al, why don't you team up with Ariana Huffington on a 24 hour cable news station? That would hot. We can see Sam Stein, Jason Linkins, Nico Pitney, and the other HUFFPOST staffers explain their hard hitting work and sumbit updates on past posts. Plus, you could try and get Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow from MSNBC when their contracts are up.

We need a progressive leaning cable news station because cable news and the networks didn't even report on 15% of the news that was being reported in the blogosphere.

Consider it please!
