Oscar-nominated director Baz Luhrmann's $130-million epic film "Australia" is due to make its world premiere in Sydney on Tuesday -- but the director says he has not finished it yet.

Luhrmann, who was honored at The Museum of Modern Art's Film Benefit in New York on Monday, is flying back to Sydney with a day to spare to complete the film he has spent four years working on.

"I'm going back to the mixing desk to finish it in 24 hours," the Australian director told Reuters in an interview on Tuesday just before he left for the airport.

"It's right on the edge, we're right up against it. I literally have to on Friday night push that button," he said. "This is really dangerous, I hope there's no problem with the plane going back."

No man is going to see this film unless dragged along by his girlfriend. You ladies get to pant over Hugh Jackman for two hours (and I must admit I can't blame you), while we men are stuck staring at (or, rather, trying to avoid catching a glimpse of) Nicole Kidman, who at this point looks like Joan Rivers' younger sister. Eugh!

i think the cinematography is the only thing that will get folks into a theatre for this.

Luhrmann has a way of making men look very effeminate- Broadway style stuff that doesn't transfer well on screen-Moulin Rouge etc. I don't get it.

I didn't like Moulin Rouge at all. I thought Nick was all wrong for the lead. However, Australia is my kind of movie, romance, comedy, drama and action! I can't wait. Also, Hugh Jackman's body is to die for. He's beautiful. Oh, one more thing, went to see RocknRolla yesterday. Loved it! Well done Guy Richie!

This looks like a horrible chick flick.

After all of Nicole's "Give more good roles to women" speech, why does she continue with these chick flicks/

In my opinion, I think my girl Naomi Watts would have been a far better pick for the female lead. Nicole is looking a bit off. Something to do with her face. Who knows.

Another str8 to dvd waste of a money movie. Kidman is a terrible actress, jacko 2 milking that oscar for all its worth... i'm just trying to figure out what movie of hers has actually been successful moneywise.

But...but...but...Hugh Jackman is in it!!! (sorry, that is a VERY weak spot of mine - I'm ashamed to say that could stare at him all day...)

I share your shame. He is my new Paul Newman (OK, I'm not young).

I don't deny that he is a good actor, just he isn't good enough to carry someone that bad, and the movie story looks bad too.

I agree. I think Nicole had the look (that's before she did something to her face) and the figure, but she's not the greatest of actresses. Naomi Watts would have been my pick.

If by "done" you mean "stick a fork in it," then I'd humbly suggest that it is indeed, done.

They have wrapped a huge tourist campaign around the movie. i've seen a sneak preview. Some of my home state is in it. The NW Kimberley outback.

Dammit Baz, don't buckle under Fox's pressure! Keep the ending you intended!

I'd like to third that, and having seen him in "The Boy from Oz" several years ago, I want to say that he is ten times better looking in person than on the screen. True story: my college roommate and I went to see "Oz" and let's just say both of us are well past the teenybopper age! (I guess I just dated myself using that term!) At any rate, there we were, after the show ended waiting by the stage door for an autograph! My friend is an eyewitness--I nearly passed out when Hugh returned my signed theater program to me! Needless to say, I will be at the first showing of "Australia" when it opens!
