Chicago Sun-Times:

Ald. Ed Smith (28th) on Wednesday used a City Council resolution honoring the memory of an Illinois National Guardsman who died in Afghanistan to demand an immediate end to the Iraq War, prompting a thinly veiled rebuke from Mayor Daley.

Daley's son Patrick recently returned to Chicago after serving in Afghanistan as a member of the U.S. Army's 82nd Airborne.

Earlier this year, Daley sandbagged a City Council resolution opposing a U.S. invasion of Iran, calling it a threat to Israel and to the campaign of now President-elect Barack Obama.

I don't think we any longer have the resources to wage a war.

What, Daley supports Bush and his war? How sad, when he has the next president currently sleeping in our city. Daley, you really need to learn how to SHUT THE HELL UP.

Haven't researched it yet, but I seem to recall Daley and most of the City Council being very much against the war, before his son was deployed.

Supporting Bush and his war is a good way to not get re-elected...how refreshing that thought is...a mayor with a name that is not Daley. About as refreshing as a president with a name that is not Bush.

not a good situation to be in. military personnel deployed to hostile areas must have confidence in the rightness of their duty. that's an important point to consider when criticizing the war and military policy. and yet another reason to avoid starting wars unnecessarily.
