Daley Rebukes Anti-War Alderman
Chicago Sun-Times:
Ald. Ed Smith (28th) on Wednesday used a City Council resolution honoring the memory of an Illinois National Guardsman who died in Afghanistan to demand an immediate end to the Iraq War, prompting a thinly veiled rebuke from Mayor Daley.
Daley's son Patrick recently returned to Chicago after serving in Afghanistan as a member of the U.S. Army's 82nd Airborne.
Earlier this year, Daley sandbagged a City Council resolution opposing a U.S. invasion of Iran, calling it a threat to Israel and to the campaign of now President-elect Barack Obama.
