According to the historical record, when Georgia Senator Saxby Chambliss first ran against and defeated Max Cleland, he ran some incendiary ads that drew the ire of John McCain, who said:

"I'd never seen anything like that ad. Putting pictures of Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden next to the picture of a man who left three limbs on the battlefield -- it's worse than disgraceful. It's reprehensible."

We also know that as recently as the 2008 campaign, Keeper Of The McCain Hagiography Mark Salter was arguing in favor of McCain, saying stuff like:

"We're talking about someone who was willing to die before losing his honor! He would die!"

Since McCain is now officially stumping for Saxby Chambliss in the Georgia Senate race run-off, I am forced to conclude that the honorable Senator has become a member of the undead horde of zombies. Good luck, Georgia!

There he goes again, our man McCain. Never met a flip-flop he couldn't master (as long as he stands to gain something from it, of course . . . )

I guess the pool where McCain tossed his honor and integrity during the presidential campaign must be very corrosive. I doubt he'll ever retrieve it in its pre-campaign form. Furthermore, it sure doesn't seem as if he has any use for it any more. This couldn't have been a good man to begin with if he can embrace the ugly side of his personality with such enthusiasm. We sure dodged a bullet November 4th.

hard to believe our alleged "hero" mc cain would call chambliss reprehensible for his campaigning and trashing of max cleland and now johnny is going to help his campaign ....NOT!

not a hero, not honorable and another reason HE'S NOT PRESIDENT ...the hypocrisy continues long after the race is over....

when McCain said the ad was reprehensible, he meant it as a compliment

the more one sees of McCain the less he looks heroic and the more he looks like someone who is consumed by political avarice

McCain can never again criticize anyone's immoral or indecent ads, having crawled through the sewers himself. Might as well go on down to Georgia and be consistent with his character.

It's just a shame (particularly at the time of celebrating our Veterans) that McCain would stand up for this man after what he did to another Vet. Haven't he learned anything? Let's all pray for a better outcome.

Um, who is John McCain to criticize anyone's ads after his "reprehensible" campaign?

Because his statement about the Chambliss ads occurred before this year, like in 2002, when Chambliss defeated Max Cleland for the U.S. Senate seat from Georgia. Now, however, McCain's attitude is "never mind." We can only hope he loses twice.

To quote McCain from one of his many famous statements, "today, we are all Georgians!"

I thought, now that the grueling election is over, that Senator McCain was going to have some extra rope to use in repairing his honesty and integrity, his image in the public eye. Apparently Senator McCain has decided to hang himself with it.

even when it is all over for him and his campaign he continues going back and forth like a child on a swing.
