Obama Staffs Up Web Outreach Crew For Transition

Now this is a good sign: The Obama transition team has just signed up two leading Web types for the transition's Internet outreach team, a welcome indication that the Obama team is moving to transfer its astonishing online successes during the campaign over to the world of governing.

A transition source tells us that that Macon Phillips, a key Obama campaign Web official, has been tapped to head new media for the transition, and Jesse Lee, a leading Web operative who handled Rahm Emanuel's DCCC internet outreach operation during the 2006 take-back of Congress, has been hired to do online communications. Obama's transition team confirms the hires.

I am so excited by this prospect. Obama is a visionary to have recognized the power of an democratic internet to engage its citizens. This was just another stark difference between the candidates. The POTUS needs to understand the far reaching implications and uses of technology and I just couldn't see how McCain with his lack of even basic computers skills could lead our nation that invented personal computing and the internet.

I loved the internet blogs and such during the campaign. His site was so high tech and kept us so informed. I joined an internet listserv and we still keep in touch. I'm looking forward to blogging with the pres and his staff. So young and refreshing compared to what we've had for the past 8 years with the secrecy.

The internet was instrumental in Obama's win. The media did little to disseminate facts but the world wide web connected us in an unprecedented way. People had the access to get involved.
