O'Reilly Factor: Dennis Miller's Homophobic Joke About Barney Frank

Dennis Miller appeared on The O'Reilly Factor tonight (Miller is a frequent guest on Bill O'Reilly's show) and went on a rant regarding what Barack Obama should do to the executives of AIG when he takes office, namely, that Obama "should flatten these punks" and "come down hard on them." After Miller finished his rant, O'Reilly chimed in that Obama's next move should be "to arrest Barney Frank, correct?" Miller replies, "Eh, Barney might want to be arrested."

It seems that Frank, the most prominent openly-gay member of the House of Representatives, is being slurred by Miller for his homosexuality. The reactions of O'Reilly and Miller confirm that Miller's joke was inappropriate, to say the least. Watch and judge for yourself.

Dennis Miller wasn't funny on SNL and got canned. He did stand up and wasn't funny. He tried Monday Night Football and got crucified for his so called 'quirky, self important narcissism'. Now he does a middle of the night chat show for the whackos. Good place for him. As for Billo the Klown? His little niche audience of sycophantic dropouts is shrinking. K.O. & Rachel are coming on strong and even Rupert can't stomach his screaming rage. And the term is used quite appropriately, here. Such comments are either a sign of a fear of gayness on the speaker's part -- either of his own possible gay leanings, or of gayness' "effects" on others -- or, they are meant specifically to resonate with those same feelings in the speaker's audience.

Dennis Miller was funny when we thought he was pretending to be a snap-judgemental commentator on SNL. He's much less so now -- now that we can see that quick judgement, ridicule, and disdain are really the way he sees the world.

Because, Joe, a comedian making a joke about someone being gay is not automatically homophobic. Miller's joke, while lame, possesses none of the "irrational fear, hatred, or aversion to homosexuals or homosexuality," as the dictionary defines the word. You're reading your own insecurities into what he said. Sometimes a joke is just a joke.
