Matthews

It's no wonder that Chris Matthews is making bold vows about wanting "to do everything I can to make [the Obama] Presidency work." As it turns out, preliminary polls indicate that Matthews is going to be in need of some of that "Barack bounce," if he wants to fulfill his longstanding dream of being elected to the United States Senate on the basis of his tireless protestations that he is the only person in America who truly understands the working class. According to a new poll from Public Policy Polling, Matthews has barely a pulse in a projected matchup with incumbent Pennsylvania Senator Arlen Specter, trailing him 40-27%.

Of course, forty percent is really no great shakes for an incumbent who could end up getting targeted from the right for bruising primary battle similar to the one he endured in 2004. But as terrifying as it is to consider the prospect of Chris Matthews serving in the United States Senate, I'm sort of dying to see these two in a debate. Given Matthews propensity for recalling picayune moments of governmental history and Specter's well-versed expertise in citing intensely obscure legal precedent, it would likely be the Death Race 2000 of political trivia contests.

Chris would be an excellent Senator! He is honest and thinks clearly.
But I must admit, I would miss him on MSNBC. I love Chris on Hardball and also Keith Obermann and the Rachel Maddow Show.

Morning Joe is too frustrating (he is so patronizing) to watch, so I also prefer CNN News in the morning.

Chris: Go for it, bro...

What you may lack in decorum and finesse you surely make up for in heartfelt passion - an intangible not unnoticed by the people.

Matthews is OK, if you don't mind the raging sexism and how his opinion blows with the wind... we need REAL progressives in the Senate!

Sexism??

He was one of the first commentators to point out McCain's awful interpretation of Roe vs. Wade!

Chris better start looking at every show he ever did, because you know his opponents will do that. Yikes, so much time on tape,,,a little scary. Everything he ever said on the show will be an open book..

Good point! If he runs, Matthews is then responsible for everything he has ever said and it is all on tape.

I've watched Chris evolve as first a host on a Rodger Ailes "Americas Talking" show until now and while he's always been passionate( and right a lot of the time) ... it's only been recent that I've seen the kind of fire in him to want to do something directly. Chris would make an excellent Senator ... there's not a phony bone in his body and a genuine love for america shines through.

I think it's a good thing ... go for it Chris.

To those who don't know him here is a short excerpt ... and a url http://peacecorpsonline.org/messages/messages/467/4322.html

"Then, in 1994, Roger Ailes, now the chairman and CEO of Fox News, started NBC's new cable network, America's Talking, and hired Matthews for a show called In Depth. When MSNBC took over America's Talking in 1996, Ailes moved Matthews to CNBC. "Chris talks like the guy who is on the barstool in Akron, Ohio, and that is part of his appeal," observes Ailes. "A lot of people ask long questions because they want face time, but Chris just can't shut up. The decibel level can disguise how talented he is" -- Ailes chuckles -- "If you have lunch with him, you have to put a fork in his hand just to get a word in edgewise!" "

He'd make a great Senator, but.... from a selfish point of view..I don't want him gone from MSNBC. Matthews, KO and Maddow's are the only shows I watch. No "Morning Joke" for me, thanks. I prefer CNN in the morning.

Chris would be an absolutely great senator. He is so well informed, and nobody loves his state or country more. I think that he would be a totally dedicated public servant with a superior knowledge of political reality and practicality and of history. More importantly, he is an individual who epitomizes true idealism and patriotism.

If you want to keep your death a secret, you have Chris Matthews give the eulogy. He's never been able to grow out of his egocentric childhood stage.

Add to that his need for celebrity approval, and we'll have the likes of Paris HIlton influencing his vote on legislation.

One also needs to factor in the carnage that will ensue. Imagine the path of broken bodies between Matthews and television cameras.

Encourage him to stay on Hardball, and let's leave bad enough alone.

Say what you want, but Chris in a debate is dangerous, imagine if he was your press secretary?

I say go for it Chris! I will even come from maryland and canvass for you!

Run Chris Run, I think he would make a good senator because he has a sense of right and wrong and whats fair and that is what is needed today for any office.
