Top Dem Senators Try To Save Lieberman

Several top Democratic senators have launched a behind-the-scenes effort to save Sen. Joe Lieberman's chairmanship, despite calls from a Democratic base seeking retribution for Lieberman's vocal support of John McCain's presidential campaign.

Sens. Chris Dodd (D-Conn.), Ken Salazar (D-Colo.), Tom Carper (D-Del.) and Bill Nelson (D-Fla.) are all involved in the effort, according to top Senate Democratic aides. These four senators -- along with other Lieberman allies -- are reaching out to the rest of the Democratic Senate caucus to try to ensure Lieberman survives a secret ballot vote on whether to strip him of his chairmanship of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.

Despite the fact that our Lie.Berman has flat out lied about Senator Obama during the campaign, saying he did not put country first; despite the fact that Lie.Berman has flip flopped from Dem, to independent, to chatting up the GOP -- all putting HIMSELF ahead of anything . . . . . . since has voted with us, we'll keep him.

Democratic Senators: The whole world -- at least those of us who are lifelong Dems who care about the party -- are WATCHING YOU. If you forgive this liar, if you let this liar remain in charge of HOMELAND SECURITY -- you have just spoken worlds about your own integrity. If you'll do this just to get a vote, then you've proven that the question isn't whether or not you can be bought (to paraphrase Oscar WIlde), you're just haggling over the price.

WE are the voters of Connecticut and we expect bettter, especially from Chris Dodd. You owe US first, Senator Dodd.

One question. WHY??? What has Lieberman done other than do his best to undermine the Democrats, from Presidential to local elections. A chairmanship should be a reward for helping the party move toward their goals and objectives, not a "plum" for being around a long time.

Let Lieberman caucus with the dems, as a back bencher, if he chooses. If he chooses to leave, who cares!!!
