When it comes to electronics, doing more with less is key to sustainability. Also helpful is ditching plastic gadgets for paper, and DIYing it whenever you can.

A design from Dmitry Zagga, featured over at Yanko Design combines all these essential elements in a great speaker set-up for iPods.
Read on for details and how to do this yourself.

HuffPo has fallen for what amounts to a hoax -- earbuds coupled to undersized thin cardboard megaphones does not listenable loudspeakers make, and virtually no energy is saved anyway. Get a set of decent-sounding speakers designed for the task and put a simple, plug-in toggle switch between the wall wart and the AC mains -- or just unplug the wall wart when the speakers aren't in use.

I jumped to the site this was from, to see what else was there. It was pretty quickly clear that it is a fake blog (kind of an electronic infomercial -- "gee, I'm glad you asked that question..." ) set up to lure people into buying a book. It used the actual name of a scientist from Iowa State, suggesting that either he is involved or it's really shaky.

One giveaway was that there was no address or indication of geography anywhere, yet in the initial blurb it named a town near me. (My ISP covers a fairly small geographical area.)

I suggest HuffPost be a little more careful about how you link to.

Just because it makes some noise does not make it into a great speaker. It might make it into a great noise maker, though.
