Cynthia Lynch

CNN:

COVINGTON, Louisiana -- A woman recruited over the Internet and shot to death during a Ku Klux Klan group's initiation rite felt a need to be wanted and was eager to be part of a group, authorities say family members told them.

Her relatives told investigators that Cynthia Lynch, 43, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, had never been outside her home state, said Capt. George Bonnett of the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Department.

Lynch "felt a need to be wanted and was eager to be part of a group," her family said.

But it should be a good fit.

True, cooking smores over burning crosses, sewing sheets, and riflery are skills better suited for Klansmen than Girl Scout leaders.

Just don't tie a better slip knot than the Imperial Wizard's.

If these details are correct, I have a little problem with the charges leveled here.

First of all if this "Grand Lordship" had it in mind to shoot anyone that did not pass his initiation, wouldn't that be 1st degree murder instead of 2nd? The premeditation might be hard to prove, I guess, but I wonder had he made any statements previously about that to anyone that could prove premeditation.

Also, helping dispose of the body and burn her affects to cover up the murder. Is that not complicity in the crime? Shouldn't they also be charged with murder? I think a murder charge here could possibly loosen some tongues concerning any previous statements made by his "Lordship" above.

Isn't the charter of the klan treason to the laws of the U.S?

I grew up in Oklahoma around racists like this woman. There's nothing sad or tragic about her death. Don't try humanizing a person like this. It doesn't show compassion.
Her relatives shouldn't be getting extra sympathy, either. They weren't talking her out of anything.

Good point. Wanted to belong to a group so she chose this group? Interesting that church or aid to homeless or habitat for humanity or something like that didn't entice her instead.
What a bunch of creepy, mean looking people they are! I'd cross the street if I saw them coming toward me, that's for sure.

It's always a pretty good clue that you've been up to no good when the only picture of you they can dig up is from your state Department of Corrections...

What is it about these people that leads them to believe that the poh-lice is like a free version of Sears portrait studio ?

I'll have 3 three 5x7s and ten wallet sized please.

Sheesh !

I wonder what part of America would Sarah Palin consider Covington,La?

Dude, she doesn't even know what 3 countries make up North America ! This is just another example of that "gotcha journalism" !

Besides, from what she tells us, Palin is more of an "energy" expert. I betcha she could also rattle off the old testament list of "who begot who" from start to finish without errors.

We are all just informed idiots, too blinded by liberalism to realize what's worth knowing. We waste too much time trying to understand things, and listen to people. Everything we need to know is right there in that bible, so sit back, read, and wait for the rapture.

The media in Oklahoma feeds hatred and ignorance by printing these stories. This story was front page and a full second page yesterday.
Our GM plant closed but auto dealerships are still a major employeer in towns of 100,000 or less. We basically have, oil-which is low, the auto buisness-which is crumbling, military bases-over extended, and hospitals-full of the un-insured.
I've complained to media until I'm blue. They refuse to write stories of substance or progress. I think the good ole' boys miss the days when the KKK used to recruit kids at the local high schools, literally in the school parking lots.

we ALL feel the need to be wanted- it's human nature; doesn't mean you have to be part of a hate group! No pity on my part.

Amazing. Anyone else hear banjos playing while you were reading that story? It's time for them to evolve.

Did it ever occur to you that your own commentary might herald your similar need to "evolve"?
The mote in the eye? The glass house? Wow. So much Jesus applies to you.

Sigh. I was kind of hoping this wouldn't make national news but I guess I should've known. It's very sad. I grew up about 20 miles from where this incident occured and I know these kinds of people. It's a desperately poor place with no jobs, no family planning clinics, and horrible schools. I learned recently that teachers in my old high school were telling students that Ob.ama is a Mus.lim. At the local fair, the 4-H students made exhibits about the presidential election, and students displayed things like a bumper sticker that read "Electing Ob.ama would be like saying 'Oh bo.mb us.'" how can you expect people to be educated when the people who are supposed to be educating them are themselves fighteningly ig.norant?

This woman's story is very sad. I feel sorry for her and her family. Making fun of her or cheering her demise is hateful. She obviously figured out very quickly that she didn't want to be with those people. Their pictures are on CNN. The public shaming will do them good.

Odd that the GOP Boy Wonder Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal has NOT taken a leadership role in renouncing and rejecting this KKK activity,in general, and this hate crime in particular.

It's also sad that the parents of these kids are so uninvolved with their kids' education and uniformed about the election that they did not complain to the school board about teachers spreading dangerous political misinformation. I bet these parent would be the first to complain about removing the pledge of allegiance or the lord's prayer from their children's "education", and ask for creationism to be taught to their young'uns though !

I wonder what use Obama's call for parent's to take control of the TV remote and video game console will have on parents in these areas...

I also seriously wonder what these people, who were convinced that Obama was a Muslim and a terrorist, are thinking now that he was elected by a clear majority of Americans. Are they not thinking that the rest of the country (the "not-real America") must be insane to have voted for this guy ? Are they not as outraged about his election for their false reasons as we were of Bush's election for real and documented reasons ?

Let's get some real news organizations down to these areas to shine the bright light of media attention on these people. That's always the best form of disinfectant !

McCain and Palin’s words added face value; their campaign rallies provided “official” confirmation for many of these hate groups to resurface. These people blinded by ignorance and hatred.

Palin, Limbaughs, Hannity and those alike have created an atmosphere where people feel they have been sanctioned to hate.

And one must not forget Hillary's part: during the primaries "...telling a reporter that she has the white vote and Senator Barack Obama does not." It seems she was telling the black supporters they are not wanted nor needed.

Regardless, It's time for the USA to leave the dark decades of the right wing’s isolationist dogma, rejoin the world community of democracies, and restore American democracy to the founding values of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

On that note: Rest in peace Ms. Lynch

If you think the Klan is only in the South, think again. It's in Michigan, Colorado and maybe everywhere in between. From my Army experience, it's there, too.
