The owners of the pizzeria that makes Barack Obama's favorite pies are heading to Washington, NBC 5's Anthony Ponce reports.

Italian Fiesta Pizza in Hyde Park is taking its spicy-sauced, thin crust pizza to D.C. for an event previewing the food at the inauguration:

The Ritz in Washington D.C. is paying to fly the pizzeria's owners to the nation's capitol for the inauguration expo to be held there next week to serve their pizza there.

A month before the election, owner Patti Harris-Tubbs got a phone call from the Ritz-Carlton in Washington, D.C., asking if she would be willing to come to the nation's capital to make her pizza if Obama won. She thought it was a joke, Harris-Tubbs when Obama won, the hotel e-mailed back, offering to fly her and her husband out to serve their pizza next week at the Presidential Inauguration Expo, which is an event designed to preview the food that will be served at inauguration time in January.

The owners told NBC that Obama was introduced to their pizza by Michelle Obama, whose parents gave it to her as a reward for good grades.

Watch a WGN Report on the pizzeria:

The White House should just buy one of those stone-lined Blodgett pizza-ovens
and get the WH chef to take a few pizza-lessons.

Here's the #1 Pizza site on the web (for the folks who want
to climb "Pizza Mountain" themselves)...

(WARNING: Graphic images of fresh-made gourmet
pizzas may trigger eating binge!):

Mama's Pizza or Parton's Pizza in Ft. Worth.
I consider myself a pizza expert, BTW.

The picture of the pizza above looks good, and is making me hungry.

Sy's Pizza in Eugene, OR is very good stuff. Pizza in Oregon during the summer time is generally hard to beat. The tomatoes here are the best in the world. Pizza without softball-sized slices of summer tomatoes on top is not really worth eating.

Had I known that Brother Neo was a thin crust guy it might have swayed my vote.

Chicago style pizza for Chicagoans.

I would put Fricano's in Grand Rapids/Grand Haven, Michigan up against any thin crust pizza in the country and be confident that they would come out on top.

Always a favorite when I lived there. But Luigi's massive-slice Pizza in Mission Beach was within walking distance...and it's at the beach...so it get's a nudge up in my ranking!

I've been away from Chicago for more than a decade, but when I return home, I still want Giodani's Stuffed Spinach Pizza and a bagful of White Castle Cheesburgers!

We have "Krystal" down here. Close, but no cigar. They are, however, acceptable as far as little, steamed hamburgers go.

My favorite Chicago pizza is still Giordano's stuffed veggie with beef.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:09 AM on 11/16/2008

Giordano's is the best Pizza on the planet!!

As long as you don't get any meat on the Pizza........they will FedEx one out overnight to you........even out here in California............

It just makes me want that stuffed veggie with beef even more.........but when you can't get to Chicago, it is certainly the next best thing!!

When I was in law school at UChicago they gave Giordano's out at least 3x a week at free lunches. That stuff was always too much for me--way too much cheese and the crust was too thick. While I was converted to the Chicago way for many things, pizza was not among them. My fav will always be Sally's Pizza and Pepe's Pizza from New Haven, CT. You gotta love New Haven style thin crust pizza! In Chicago my pie of choice was Pizza Capri's pesto and shrimp pizza.

I lived in Hyde Park for three years and gave up on my Pizza search. Wish I had heard of this place then!

I use to love pizza, now I get it once a year and have to go to West Va. To get it! ( I live 50 miles south of DC) If any one ever makes their way to a little place called Davis, West Va., (we go to Blackwater Falls every year to cross country ski) there is a place that will knock your socks off, Cyranos. OMG, it has to be the best pizza I’ve ever had and worth the trip on it’s own. Then on to Thomas, just up the road, to The Purple Fiddle, for drinks and the best live entertainment on a home made stage with a quilt curtain backdrop, mis-matched tables and chairs, and drinks from mason jars. They also have incredible food! It doesn’t get much better than that!

That's great, but where can I find the best hotdog in Chicagoland?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 02:18 AM on 11/16/2008

Check out Portillos in Chicago! Every time we go to Chi town it's a must stop. Try their hot beef sandwich as well...i usually splurge and get both.;)

I second that! And, I hate to admit it, but I love their tamales. What I wouldn't give for one now!

The best hot dog is at Hot Doug's! Whenever I had friends visit I'd take them to Hot Doug's on California. You can get your basic chicago dog or gourmet interpretations. I remember one selection was wildebeast sausage with Gruyere cheese and truffles or something unheard of like that. The fancy dogs were still just around $5 a pop and so worth it. I miss Chicago. I have yet to find a Philly place to replace Hot Doug's.
