Obama's Favorite Pizza Coming To Washington

The owners of the pizzeria that makes Barack Obama's favorite pies are heading to Washington, NBC 5's Anthony Ponce reports.

Italian Fiesta Pizza in Hyde Park is taking its spicy-sauced, thin crust pizza to D.C. for an event previewing the food at the inauguration:

The Ritz in Washington D.C. is paying to fly the pizzeria's owners to the nation's capitol for the inauguration expo to be held there next week to serve their pizza there.

A month before the election, owner Patti Harris-Tubbs got a phone call from the Ritz-Carlton in Washington, D.C., asking if she would be willing to come to the nation's capital to make her pizza if Obama won. She thought it was a joke, Harris-Tubbs when Obama won, the hotel e-mailed back, offering to fly her and her husband out to serve their pizza next week at the Presidential Inauguration Expo, which is an event designed to preview the food that will be served at inauguration time in January.

The owners told NBC that Obama was introduced to their pizza by Michelle Obama, whose parents gave it to her as a reward for good grades.

I second that! I grew up on Italian Fiesta and it was our choice for birthday parties and special occasions like Michelle stated....­nice to see it getting some worldwide recognition. South SIIIIDDDDEEEE!!!

Chicago Pizza and Pasta on the North side has the best deep dish... NY pizza is good... but i woud just ahve to give the edge to chicago by a little.

Obama wouldn't look the way he does if he really at that much pizza. Why don't they tell the truth and say that this line of pizza is what his election staff likes. Obama is a photo-op eater, otherwise he eats pretty healthy.

This comment is really not an anti-Obama comment and has nothing to do with whether or not someone likes Obama, I voted for Obama, but I believe Indy is correct. Pizza is a very fattening food, and if you don't sop up the grease on top with a paper towel before eating it, it is twice as fattening. Those are nutritional facts and have nothing to do with Obama. As an active 47-year-old he probably burns more calories than Bush does in a day, but I agree he appears to have low body fat and he probably doesn't eat pizza more than once or twice a month. I repeat this is not an anti-Obama post!

Since everyone is saying their fav pizza. Mine is : 'Punch' pizza which is in St. Paul.MN.
Real authentic neoploitan pizza, thin crust slightly crisp outside, chewy on the inside.
My fav is the one with fresh mozzerella, arugula ontop just out of the oven.
It is heaven on earth pizza! Mmmmmm!
