UPDATE at 5:46 PM EST:

Some Republicans were not happy with the way that the Palin press conference was conducted, complaining that it seemed intended to bolster her status as the leader of the party and that she was hogging the media attention.

According to CNN:

Some Republican governors tell CNN they were not particularly happy with the way the Republican Governors Association press conference was executed Thursday, saying that they agreed to go as a show of GOP governors' unity -- but they ended up feeling like silent Palin supporters, since it was clearly a press conference called for her.

The GOP governors spoke to CNN on condition of anonymity.

One called it awkward: "I'm sure you could see it on some of our faces."

Another Republican governor eyeing a presidential run in 2012 told CNN the event was "odd" and "weird," and said it "unfortunately sent a message that she was the de facto leader of the party."

There has been palpable tension among some GOP governors gathered in Miami that Palin has been sucking up all the media oxygen.

In an interview with CNN, Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour shrugged off that suggestion.

Story continues below

"That's just somebody running down a rabbit trail. There's plenty of oxygen here," he said.

More from The Daily Telegraph:

Here in Miami, Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska has just given her first press conference since she shot to international prominence when John McCain picked her as his vice-presidential running mate. It was a mess. According to my digital recorder, the actual Q & A with her lasted three minutes and 23 seconds and there were just four questions - three before press staff attempted to shut the thing down.

It wasn't really Palin's fault. She was answering the questions competently, declining "to talk about strategy within a campaign that's over" and repeatedly pivoting back to talking about GOP governors - a dozen of whom were standing behind her (though one Governor Bobby Jindal of Louisiana was conspicuous by his absence). This is, after all, the Republican Governors Association gathering.

Perhaps out of a desire to stop it becoming the Sarah Palin Show, perhaps in an attempt to shield the Alaska governor from a Mainstream Media free-for-all, what was billed as a Palin press conference began with 13 governors filing in. Governor Rick Perry of Texas then gave a lengthy introduction. After that, Palin delivered her own remarks followed by the very brief question session.

My husband and I would rather watch Valerie Jarrett than Gov. Sarah Palin. Valerie makes us feel good and hopeful for the future. Sarah is an insult to us all, including women.

Gov Sarah Palin was not on the new leadership list for the GRA. The intelligent Republican politicians will push her away for us all. Thanks God!

Please Ms. Palin, could you ride off into the sunset on a moose or something? It would be to everyone's benefit.

That's the only option they have woth her: Keep her away from any unscripted questions for the time being until hopefully she has been prepped enough to answer basic questions. Then she will run again

guys there's a million good reasons to blast little palin -just check out http://www.spinwhip.com/palin- but this... this business of picking at every little straw to destroy her will weaken her opponents inf act cuz sooner or later she'll say something that's not so stupid, too!
In this particular case you can clearly see in the video she was not trying to dominate, republican staff are seen moving her into the limelight, and then out of it. it's normal. she's clearly not pleased with having all those questions either.

At this rate half of those Govenors will be Democratic tommorro and the other half will have thrown themselves off of a bridge. I guess one of the few talents the bimbo possesses is that of the hypnotist. It's that or her faithful followers are just as braindead as she is. Tiny Fey won't be looking for work for quite some time it appears.

Republican Governors are unique? I hope they bring her on in 2012! She's the biggest socialist the country has.

For the Republican Party to turn hard right and rally around Sarah Palin would guarantee they remain out of power for decades.

During the Republican Governor's Association conference this week members selected their new leadership team. Wanna take a guess as to who's name wasn't included...you betcha!

I can't believe they're taken this chic serious! This lady is still a mess. You have to consider ones competents to continue to try and prop this woman up as a professional or a formidable prospect. The crazy part is some people actually thinks she's getting better. That's why our country is in the shape it's in, we let people run sh*t (George Bush) that need special attention themselves. This woman will go down in history as one of the most inept politicians in the history of politics. Obama 2012!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let’s face it, we would have never been subjected to SP’s seemingly endless 15 minutes of fame if not for McCain plucking her from total obscurity and readily anointing her as “the best governor in the US” (even though she was a complete unknown to most of us). I wondered at the time whether there weren’t 49 other governors who disagreed! And now it appears there were some. From the time she was first contacted by McCain that she was being considered as his running mate, SP had a choice. She could have simply said thanks, but NO thanks, and acknowledged her complete lack of experience and readiness for the job. If she’s the empowered woman she conflictingly portrays herself to be, she should have exercised her power to say NO.

On November 5 she could have walked off the Arizona stage gracefully, but she chose instead to attract the glare of the media spotlight. Did she actually come to believe that she IS the best governor in the US, instead of the bad itch she’s become?

Formerly a lifelong Republican, I question the direction the party’s embraced. Like many others, I was also dismayed by the SP choice and questioned McCain’s decision making abilities. If the GOP continues to entertain unqualified candidates such as SP, and to thrust them forward for public scrutiny, they’ll continue to stumble and falter their way through the muck and mire of their current oblivion. In the end, they lost me to Obama.

I was a lifelong Republican believing in lower taxes and less government. With Palin and her zeal to rewrite history in an attempt not to take blame for the failure of the loss ("If I cost John McCain even one vote, then I'm sorry but I don't think I did") and her zeal to convert the entire Party to her right-wing thinking forced me to cast my vote for the opposition.

With Supreme Court Justice seats coming open in the next decade and issues as abortion, stem cell research, marriage and partnership rights, health care and privacy issues, government intrusion into privacy matters- conservatives are worried, scared to come home while the right-wing majority rules.

I want a leader strong enough to say, "As long as it is safe and legal, the government should not interfere with what happens between you, your family and your physician- and we will defend your rights." What has happened to us? In countries when we see religious sects force their views on others in matters of dress, or stoning adulters in the streets, we are appalled. Yet here, we are beginning down that slippery slope of everyone being able to make decisions on their own, religious groups are beginning to make them for us and few are speaking out.

Until the Republican Party can determine leaders who are willing to stand up for a platform that places ideology before theology the Party will never win back the Independent or Conservative vote.

Every time Palin shows up she is worst than the last time. I hope she gets the GOP top ticket for 2012. SNL is going to rule and the republicans will get wipped by a even bigger margin.
