I Like ItI Don’t Like It

UPDATE at 5:46 PM EST:

Some Republicans were not happy with the way that the Palin press conference was conducted, complaining that it seemed intended to bolster her status as the leader of the party and that she was hogging the media attention.

According to CNN:

Some Republican governors tell CNN they were not particularly happy with the way the Republican Governors Association press conference was executed Thursday, saying that they agreed to go as a show of GOP governors' unity -- but they ended up feeling like silent Palin supporters, since it was clearly a press conference called for her.

The GOP governors spoke to CNN on condition of anonymity.

One called it awkward: "I'm sure you could see it on some of our faces."

Another Republican governor eyeing a presidential run in 2012 told CNN the event was "odd" and "weird," and said it "unfortunately sent a message that she was the de facto leader of the party."

There has been palpable tension among some GOP governors gathered in Miami that Palin has been sucking up all the media oxygen.

In an interview with CNN, Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour shrugged off that suggestion.

"That's just somebody running down a rabbit trail. There's plenty of oxygen here," he said.

More from The Daily Telegraph:

Here in Miami, Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska has just given her first press conference since she shot to international prominence when John McCain picked her as his vice-presidential running mate. It was a mess. According to my digital recorder, the actual Q & A with her lasted three minutes and 23 seconds and there were just four questions - three before press staff attempted to shut the thing down.

It wasn't really Palin's fault. She was answering the questions competently, declining "to talk about strategy within a campaign that's over" and repeatedly pivoting back to talking about GOP governors - a dozen of whom were standing behind her (though one Governor Bobby Jindal of Louisiana was conspicuous by his absence). This is, after all, the Republican Governors Association gathering.

Perhaps out of a desire to stop it becoming the Sarah Palin Show, perhaps in an attempt to shield the Alaska governor from a Mainstream Media free-for-all, what was billed as a Palin press conference began with 13 governors filing in. Governor Rick Perry of Texas then gave a lengthy introduction. After that, Palin delivered her own remarks followed by the very brief question session.

how is it even possible that I am reading about a presidential bid for 2012 when the newly elected president has yet to take up his new position. What does this really say about American politics, and more importantly the asinine media coverage of it?

Palin is a massive FAIL for the GOP and social evolution generally.

Palin 2012? Has the GOP achieved critical mass in anti-intellectualism? To the point where a Darwin Award is inevitable? Millions of goon running over the cliff shouting "we're number #1" all the way down? I hope not because we need at least two viable parties and rigorous challenge for a healthy democracy.

But, if so, expect significant 3rd parties to emerge, such as Libertarians, Cristian Coalition, etc. And expect Democrat to run government for a generation or more.

How can it be possible that people see Palin as the great hope of the conservative movement when the article explains what couldn't be either understood or articulated by the person who is supposed to lead the movement? This is an example of someone being anointed as a figure head. Clearly Palin doesn't understand the concepts that she will be leading. The powers that be don't care, she will just be a figure head. Is this what our supposed Republic is, just a bunch of stupid figure heads who look good in front of the cameras? I feel a little disalousioned.

I am so happy that the GOP considers Palin the leader of the party. It's not like she's going to grow a brain in 4 years, not unless she meets the Wizard of Oz. And she is the perfect example of why the GOP is out in the wilderness: Ideology over competence; style over substance; religious doctrine over common sense.

I don't understand the media's infatuation with this woman! Enough already. Sarah Palin was shown the door on Nov. 4. and I'm getting real tired of seeing her. She's ignorant and contrary to some opinion NOT that charismatic.

Depends... have you had five kids? This old broad must have more stretch marks than she has skin pores... You'll notice that she hasn't appeared braless in a T-shirt lately.

I suspect she gets air time out of curiosity about Palin's performance without McCain's handlers, and whether she'll ever get that she's a national joke. You can't break this gal's facade easily.

I suspect the media is more snickering than infatuated.

I think I just learned something from Sarah, INFLATE my resume with exaggerations of experience.

GO AWAY SARAH. Obama needs no suggestions from YOU!

I love the slick, implicitly chauvinistic slight of the suave male governor when he pulls her from the podium and randomly announces and selects the last question in a single authoritative point of the finger. Classic. Colbert couldn't have done better, and all the while Palin stands there with that confused, deferential body language, like "Thank you big, heroic male for saving me from my own expression!" Seriously, she's got some weird body language and verbal tic's, alternating between total vindictiveness and unmatched condescension. These tic's become useful when you try to dissect the meaning of her incomprehensible ramblings, and the Freudian slips which tend to suggest the logic of a closet totalitarian tick-tocking away behind those reptilian eyes. Seriously, this person gives me chills. For the sake of sleep, and my shrink bill, please make her go away.

One might wonder if that the slick, implicitly chauvinistic slight & suave male governor from Texas with the authoritative point of the finger might have his sights set on the run in 2012...???

Did she say she's been giving press conferences for years? She hasn't been governor for 2 years yet. Did she give press conferences as mayor of Wasilla?

probably at the local Wasilla sip and suds.

So much for "bucking the good ol' boys club." Way to be, Palin.

Plan for Palin:

Step 1) Ignore her. Stevens will lose to Begich, so Mrs. Smith will not be going to Washington any time soon.
Step 2) Find a great, gun-totin', moose-killin', freedom-lovin' Democratic candidate to run against her in 2010.
Step 3) Maybe she could take over from Art McMaster as her hair slowly turns white.
