E!:

So about those big-name guest stars on 30 Rock...

Last night's episode, featuring Jennifer Aniston, and, as an added bonus for fans of vintage NBC Thursdays, a Night Court cast reunion, was watched by a season-low 7.5 million, Nielsen estimates report.

The show's previous low (8.1 million) came a week ago, when no less than Oprah Winfrey appeared.

Overall, 30 Rock, bolstered more by Tina Fey's rising star than any one guest star, is bigger than ever, averaging 8.1 million through the first three weeks of its season.

I have a client who met Jolie several times at retreats. She said Jolie is gracious and luminous. Jen responded to Jolie's remark about being intimate with Brad before they were divorced. So what? They're both gorgeous, talented (see Jen in Friends With Money holding her own with the likes of Frances McDormand and Catherinne Keener and Joan Cusak. ) I highly doubt Jen dragged down ratings for 30 Rock. Just goes to show you how blogging gets peeps talking about non-issues. ( But, Jen deserves better than John Mayer!) I can't resist.

I completely agree. Mayer is on the creepy side.

I'm non partisan when it comes to Jen/Angelina, but it seems to me that JA plays the same character in every one of her movies except for the one with Jake Jyllenhall (SP?) .. Otherwise, it's pretty much the same kinda goofy character. Just sayin'....

I hear you. But you seem to assume that playing a variation on the same character somehow diminishes her as an actress. How many characters did Lucille Ball play? Not many. Does that make her a lesser actress? For that matter, how many different characters has AJ played? In my view, AJ has two closely related characters in her repertoire: high-strung crazy lady and knuckle-worrying mom/wife in distress. Does AJ's ability to move us within the range of these two "characters" make her a lesser actress? Does her inability to do light comedy, to make us really laugh, as Jen can--does that make AJ an inferior actress?

I think JA has run the full range of characters in her films. From the seamy Derailed to the frothy Friends With Money.

After reading these posts, I'm scratching my head wondering Jennifer Aniston is so divisive?

My guess is because she was dropped by Brad Pitt when Angelina Jolie decided to have him for supper. Now the Brangelites detest her.

I use to watch sitcoms all the time but now I think they are just silly. But I guess watching political shows is just as bad. Most TV is and always has been garbage. Give me a real good documentary about science or history any day over the fluff shows. I guess I still have a soft spot for scifi though.

I think it's pretty obvious that "30 Rock's" ratings would have been much higher, not just last night but since the series' inception, if selfish Jen had just consented to disgorge from her womb all the children that Brad so clearly wanted.

If Ms. Fey really wants to draw a crowd AND create high art, maybe she should consider stunt-casting that timeless comedic actress, Ms. Angelina Jolie? That relaxed broad tickles my ribs!

AngryAmish, There are 3 different articles relating to Jennifer Aniston on HuffPo and you have degraded Angelina Jolie in each and every one of them. You remind me of Sarah Palin when she got on the subject of our President elect and his "pallin' around with terrorists" - she just wouldn't let up - it's as if when she kept repeating it she could get herself and the rest of the world to believe it. My friends and I are curious as to why you have so much anger towards this woman and are you a woman or a man? #1 friend says you just want to piss people off, #2 friend says you are obsessed with Jennifer Aniston, myself and #3 friend think you have been through a similar situation as JA. Of the two women, we think Angelina Jolie is the best actress she is also the prettiest. JA has a more girl next door look and seems to be nice but she should dress and act more age appropriate after all she is almost 40!

Native, if you want to know why I do this, please see my response to your similar comment on an earlier thread. I'm not going to repeat it verbatim here. (Click on your profile. Click on your comments. Click on your comment to me. . . .) Why are you and your friends even discussing me? None of my friends even know that I take an interest in the great Angelina/Jennifer smackdown.

All right. I actually kind of like you, and you are evidently smart and not a crazee person, so I will tell you this: Of the three explanations you proffer, the first comes closest to the truth. But I'm not trying to piss people off for the sheer fun of it. I'm trying to piss people off because it seems to be the only way to put so much as a dent into the iron-clad fiction of Sainthood and Fecundity that has been built around Angelina Jolie, a fiction that is so retrograde that it depends on demonizing a middleaged childless woman (Jen) to sustain itself. I am politically progressive. Sexually progressive. Nothing shocks me. But many things anger me, and one of them is hypocricy, which happens to be the execrable foundation of the Cult of Angelina.

While I agree with you, you are wasting your time trying to reason with AA. She's obsessed, irrational and one of those people who loves being angry.

Jennifer Aniston is an underrated actress who needs a new agent as she should've had much better material by now to work with. I found 30 Rock mildly amusing and, as usual, overrated. I'm perplexed by the rabid response to celebrities people can't stand for some reason- judge them by their work, not their tabloid escapades and other B.S. To say you'll never watch a show with "that woman" on it, not even Oprah's, or whatever such nonsense sounds like the whining of a 12-year-old. Go ahead- boycott! That'll show Her, won't it? Taking ourselves a little bit too seriously, are we?.....

No exactly accurate or fair to Aniston to say she HURT the ratings!

I LOVE "30 Rock". It's one of the few shows on network television that I try to watch every week. The show is almost always LOL funny. That said, last night's episode was one of the weakest I've seen. The "Night Court" bit was lame. Anniston was so - so.

Totally agree. I generally avoid anything with Anniston but she actually was a bit funny (especially the "crazy pu_ _ y") thing but the Night Court was terrible.

It sucks on Thursdays now b/c I avoid the 7-8 NBC shows and just watch Office/30Rock block then flip for something else at 9. If NBC had dared to show the original version of Kath and Kim I probably would watch the entire 7 - 9 block. Australians speak "English" so I don't see why they need to redo that show.

I actually thought Aniston was quite funny too. And though the Night Court thing was clearly filler, it made me laugh here and there.

I'm sure if the Patriots and Jets weren't playing last night, and NBC didn't lose the Boston and NY markets, ratings would have been just fine. But don't let the immature idiots who need to bash Aniston let the facts get in the way. I could care less about her one way or another, which is probably what any normal person's reaction would be.

has anyone ever thought that MAYBE, just MAAAYBE, a lot of people are not interested in these shows FOR THE MOMENT, because of the circus that is the national news? i know i haven't seen a new episode of diddlysquat because i've been glued to MSNBC and CNN and the like lol. i'm clearly not speaking for everyone, but i know tons of people who are just not interested in scripted fiction, they'd rather watch unscripted fiction/nonfiction (the news). but thats just for the moment. i'm sure ratings will pick back up for a lot of these shows.
