"Joe The Plumber" Book Deal Details Emerge

In a somewhat predictable move, Joe The Plumber, aka Samuel Wurzelbacher, has signed a book deal. Joe told Fox News that he was "broke," but still took time in considering his publishing house because he wanted to spread the wealth around.

"Everyone came at me to write a book. They had dollar signs in their eyes. '101 Things Joe the Plumber Knows' or some stupid s--- like that. Excuse me, I am sorry," he said. "You know I will get behind something solid, but I won't get behind fluff. I won't cash in, and when people do read the book they will figure out that I didn't cash in. At least I hope they figure that out."

The book, called "Joe the Plumber -- Fighting for the American Dream," is to be released by a group called PearlGate Publishing and other small publishing houses.

"I am not going to a conglomerate that way we actually can get the economy jump started. Like there is five publishing companies in Michigan. There's a couple down in Texas. They are small ones that can handle like 10 or 15,000 copies. I can go to a big one that could handle a million or two. But they don't need the help. They are already rich. So that's spreading the wealth to me," he said.

CJR has reported several new details on the book today. Titled "Joe the Plumber: Fighting for the American Dream," it's slated to be released on December 1st of this year and will be co-written with a novelist named Thomas Tabback.

Give him a break. He strikes me as an ordinary guy who just happened to be out on his lawn when the Obama media circus came by. The two men had a brief, civil discussion about Obama's tax proposals. The desperate McCain crowd jumped on the phrase "spread the wealth" and tried to make Obama out as a Marxist. Joe was caught up in it all. He was lionized by the McCain bunch and swept away on the tide.

From the little that I saw of him, it didn't seem to have gone to his head. He seemed to me to be misguided in his beliefs, but a straight shooter; he could have been one of my working-class friends. He didn't deserve to have the media prying into his personal life and state agencies investigating his background. (I'm sure that wasn't done with Obama's knowledge or consent, or by official campaign staffers -- they're not that stupid -- but by well-meaning but overzealous supporters.)

Publishing is no longer a literary endeavour, it is a business and all about money. Some quickie trash book like this will make more money than a good piece of writing by a little known author. Keep looking at small houses; eventually you will find something, but it may take time. Joe's book will rise, and as quickly fall.

Joe's missing the real money boat: a line of Joe the Plumber licensed toilet accessories. Plunger, brush and holder, plush tank lid and seat covers with his image, paper holder with recorded phrases when spun, and so on.
Who wouldn't want the whole ensemble to decorate their necessary room? GOPs would get it to show their continuing support, Dems would get it to be ironic and make #2 jokes- always a hit.

Did you ask these desperate people that want to write a book about you, how much were they going to change you. I hate to be the one to tell you that all you need is less than 10 copies. No one wants to hear what you have to say. I have a question for you " When you got that stimulus check back in the summer, did you send it back to the government and said you didn't want it? Because that was not your money.
