Obama Gives Ebony First Post-Election Interview, Photoshoot

So which magazine was the first to get a sit down interview and photo shoot with President-elect Barack Obama?

Ebony Magazine, which was visited by the president-elect at its Chicago offices in the Michigan Ave. headquarters building of its parent, Johnson Publishing Co.

That Obama would give his first magazine and photo session to Ebony seems fitting. The magazine was a pioneer in publishing in much the way Obama's a trailblazer in politics.

Evolved from Negro Digest, which was founded in 1942 by John Johnson, Ebony for decades was one of the few periodicals African-Americans could turn to for images and stories about black strivers and movers and shakers rarely ever seen in the mainstream media.

FYI, to those who don't normally read Ebony - that cover pictured here is one that already ran as part of several covers that profiled "cool" black men. The new cover has yet to hit newsstands, after all, this is his "post" election interview.
I give President-Elect Obama kudos for giving the black press his first interview. The black press often has to struggle to get access to people that the mainstream media does not, and I say this as someone who has spent a career working with black media. It's nice that he was cognizant of that fact and decided to prioritize Ebony. It's also a sign that he recognizes - and not in exclusion of anyone else - that the 97% of black votes he recieved were essential to his victory. Never in my lifetime have I seen black folks so united. Really, never have I seen Americans so united.

Yep, it is awesome. Co-sign your comments. Barack is definitely about helping, working with and showing love to all people, but he does recognize who he is first and foremost. Kudos for that.

uh, that's an old cover, back when Ebony did their cool black men covers. He was one in a bunch of men featured prominently on the cover and he was merely highlighted with the other men in the inside. This is not the post-election article or cover. Do a little research.

Well, Michelle excepts nothing but the best, so... I would think so. Plus, Barack is in shape (daily gym exercises), competitive, ambitious, strong (I heard can bench press 200 and something), of African descent (don't need to explain that one *giggle*), a critical thinker, creative, etc. Basically, he meets every standard of excellence! Why not that one?
