Obama Gives Ebony First Post-Election Interview, Photoshoot

So which magazine was the first to get a sit down interview and photo shoot with President-elect Barack Obama?

Ebony Magazine, which was visited by the president-elect at its Chicago offices in the Michigan Ave. headquarters building of its parent, Johnson Publishing Co.

That Obama would give his first magazine and photo session to Ebony seems fitting. The magazine was a pioneer in publishing in much the way Obama's a trailblazer in politics.

Evolved from Negro Digest, which was founded in 1942 by John Johnson, Ebony for decades was one of the few periodicals African-Americans could turn to for images and stories about black strivers and movers and shakers rarely ever seen in the mainstream media.

I'm sure they do too, just make sure you request the cover with Barack on it because there were 8 versions of this special issue with alternate covers of Prince, Sam Jackson, Denzel Washington, Muhammad Ali, Billy Dee Williams and others.

Also, Obama has been loyal to people who started with him. Ebony/Jet couldn't get enough of him during his run. They were the first to put Michelle and the family on their covers. Us Magazine did a good job too. People Mag. didn't come around until they tried to compete with Us. People isn't known to put people of color on their covers anyway.

"...The 25 Coolest Brothers of All Time...", with BARACK on the cover!! Jeez, I'm a Brother, to quote the current parlance, but unlike the icily chill Mr. Prez-elect, I am dorkily, nerdily, totally UNcool. It just seems so EFFORTLESS for guys like him!! Of course, what I really admire about President-elect Obama are his brains and his tremendous accomplishment, but still, I'd kill to to be that COOL for just a day. Can you see him gliding off of Air Force One in those shades? President Brother; the Ice King of the Known Universe. Right -- I will NEVER be that cool...none of us will. So I'll just settle for enjoying this wonderful moment in our history.

I wonder if any of the coolest brothers of all time are white? On another cover of Ebony the headline was "The new back father", presumably about african-american fathers. But if a "white" magazine, had a headline called "the new white father" it would probably be considered racist. Just an observation, I'm mixed race btw.

Oh come on Lola...it's EBONY magazine...of course it's the new black father. The mainstream magazines will never say "white" because they are supposed to be for everyone, even though their editorial doesn't always reflect that. Magazines for black folks were created for that reason.

A white magazine wouldnt have to say "white", its a given by who is on the cover who they meant---adding the word "black" for a black publication is less about racism or black supremecy and more about including itself in the running. theres nothing wrong with the word black.

I've never purchased a copy of Ebony, but I am definitely going to keep my eye out for this issue!
