Obama's Campaign Staffers Get Bonuses

Barack Obama ended his campaign so flush with cash he's telling staffers to keep the change - and then some.

Long-suffering political footsoldiers who toiled tirelessly, at least since September, to put Obama in the White House recently learned they will be getting extra paychecks worth a month's salary, the Daily News has learned.

Remember, his campaign is strategic on all levels. This is a great thing for many reasons: first, it rewards many of the people who worked so hard to make this campaign successful; second, in a foundering economy -- amid new layoffs each week -- he's making sure there will be money moving in the marketplace during the holiday season. I think this effort was more than just a short-sighted way of saying "thank you" to his paid staff. With Circuit City among the many companies claiming bankruptcy protection (and with a lame-duck president and corrupt banking industry), the president-elect is doing what he's able to do to spur the economy. People say they'll save, but that's mostly a myth; people will spend whatever they can, whenever they can. The money these staffers are getting will go toward holiday gifts, bills, luxuries -- you name it. If it's money they didn't anticipate, then it's money they probably feel they can afford to spend. He clearly understands the importance of commerce. If this action foreshadows what he'll do when in office, it's a promising start.

Thank you EVERYONE for a job well done. We all did an outstanding job. I am so very proud of all of us. We hung in there, we stayed the course, we never gave up or in, we held our head high, we kept the faith. I am almost 53 years old and although I have always voted I have never been engaged in the political process. I donated my money and time for the first time. This election has been exciting, depressing, upsetting, fun, funny, good, bad, amazing, distrubing, eye opening, educational, motivational, inspiring and wonderful. I love IT, me, you all, this country and our new president and his lovely family. YES WE DID!!!!!!

As of Nov. 12th, 2008, David Plouffe was still sending out emails from BarackObama.com asking for MORE MONEY, $30 to be exact. I was furious b/c he asks in every email nearly everyday so this time I wrote back asking if Obama know's he's still asking ppl and that he asked voters in EVERY news letter daily even after donations were made. The answer I got back in 2 days was this: We've been reviewing the books, and the DNC went into considerable debt to secure victory for Barack and Joe. It took unprecedented resources to staff up all 50 states, train field organizers, and build the technology to reach as many swing voters as possible. It worked. But it also left the DNC in debt. So before we do anything else, we need to help pay for this winning strategy. Make a donation of $30 or more now and you'll get a limited edition 2008 Victory T-shirt! etc, etc

This post is confusing.­. Did the writer contribute to the campaign? Also, prior posts clarify that the recent emails were to assist the DNC, and the emails fro Plouffe also said that was the need.

Congratulations, again, staffers, for a well-deserved recognition. What a meaningful way for President-elect Obama to recognize your important contribution. Well earned, and I am glad that my contributions were part of making this this possible. Also, merit bonuses are so unlike working for the US Government, where year after year the same old favorites get the bonuses.

Thousands of Obama supporters worked for free and paid their own room and board, including my son and myself. who worked on the Nevada campaign. The conditions were arduous to say the least, and the paid staff worked tirelessly alongside us only for a longer period of time. The Obama campaign should also do something to reward those who gave freely of their own time - a nice personal note would be nice or tickets to the inaugaration perhaps?
